"We are judged by what we cannot change..."

A light rain was falling, as it often is in the Kirigakure. The multitudes of liquid droplets fell, forming hardly noticeable splashes as they collided with a solid or liquid substance, slowly drenching everything that they might come into contact with. Kaede stood in the center of all of this- seemingly alone in the training grounds of the Kirigakure. He did not necessarily enjoy being constantly asked that he train in the training grounds of the village, opposed to the thickly grown forests that he knew so well. Kaede preferred the forests that were so unkempt- no only did they provide location that could be used for strategical knowledge in real-time combat, but they also provided a place where he felt the most comfortable. Despite this, he had to follow the rules given, as a higher ranking shinobi in the village.
Taking note of the rain, Kaede had already determined which jutsu and which sequence techniques he would practice while he was in the training grounds. Of course, there were multiple that he could practice, but he needed to be more prepared for scenarios that required his elemental chakra, Suiton. He was already adept in his mastery of his Kekkei Genkai, Hyōton.
Kaede began to do a quick scan of the area, to ensure that he had the entire space of the training grounds to his lonesome. He did not want anyone interfering, or getting injured. Though, he would easily detect the presence of another, if someone were to approach as he was training. Kaede was always alert to his surroundings, no matter his current location.
Tiger, Dog, Monkey, Snake, Boar, Tiger. The rain that fell so swiftly around Kaede slowly became idle in its place. Suiton: Suiten Hōfutsu, the Water Release: Water-Heavens Convergence technique. He began pulling the water into one large liquid wall directly in front of himself. Controlling the water with his spread of chakra, Kaede's hands were now to free to use for other jutsu. Ram, clone, Dog, Rat, Ram, clone, Dog, Rat, Ram. After swiftly performing the hand signs, Kaede slammed the palm of his right hand onto the surface of the large wall of water that stood before him. Extremely shortly afterwards, the wall of water burst and shot outwards in many droplets of water. The droplets soon dispersed, each forming into their own water shark. This was merely the beginning of this sequence of jutsu. However, in battle, Kaede knows that he never uses specific sequences. He plans ahead and creates multiple tactics on the spot, so he might be prepared to use each at any given time, depending on the outcome of a scenario.
Kaede now raised the two forefingers of his right hand, so that the tips would align with his chin, and the palm with the base of his neck. As the rain once again fell, as the Water-Heavens Convergence gave leeway for the Rain Water Shark Wave, Kaede used the next jutsu in the sequence- the Kirigakure no Jutsu. The rain that was falling slowly began to evaporate into a thick fog. This would mask Kaede, as his opponent continued to be struck by the seemingly endless amounts of water sharks. He would use this interval of confusion on his opponent's part to use his family's sacred jutsu- a jutsu that would utilize all of the unique traits of his family.
Kaede used several nearby practice dummies as his training target. Despite the fact that he was merely going through a run, he would not hold back anything, and knew well that he would be slightly exhausted from chakra usage after the next technique. Almost immediately, Kaede seemed to disappear and reappear again in closer proximity to the dummies, while staying out of possible hitting range if they were actual opponents. He began moving at this extreme speed constantly, now, transitioning from place to place as he executed the secret handsigns of his devastating technique. A series of twelve mirrors solidified from the mist slightly above ground. Eight more slowly condensed above the original eight, while one last mirror formed at the top of the crystalline dome. Kaede's appearance seemed to be reflective in each mirror, though this was merely an illusion created by his sheer speed. As the dome solidified and came to its most powerful form without Kaede using the Kanki Kyōka no Michi technique, he reached one hand into his leg pouch, fitting multitudes of senbon between his fingers. With powerful speed, he launched them in waves towards the practice dummies. As his storage space depleted, he reached his hands towards his back, to give his hands possession of his blades, Evanescence and Elucidation.
In closing this sequence of jutsu, Kaede would slash the dummies in an x-shaped pattern with his blades, holding them in second position. He avoided making any form of contact to the dummies with his blades, knowing that they would be severed into fourths. Despite this, his constant movement lessened, as he came to finishing this sequence. One by one, the large reflective ice mirrors disappeared into the mist that was also fading back into the light rain which was still falling.
Kaede landed on one knee against the ground, and his arms on his back, having just finished sheathing his twin blades. He was breathing slightly heavier than previously, though hardly very much. Kaede was very good about evenly dispersing his chakra, while keeping his exhaustion rate in check. He rose to his feet, now, as all of his previously used jutsu had faded, leaving the training ground back to its bleak state, with only moderately noticeable disturbance from Kaede's sequence.

"We are judged by what we cannot change..."

Kaede's practice was interrupted as two powerful levels of energy disrupted his thoughts. He could feel the vibrations in the atmosphere. He rose to his feet, from the tree in which he had been leaning on. The entities that held these massive levels of energy did not have chakra- they were not shinobi, nor were they anything that Kaede would recognize. He began analyzing and assessing the situation.
Thought upon thought, not a single answer emerged in Kaede's vast and expansive mind. He decided he would learn the origin of these levels with his own eyes, but would begin planning hundreds of paces ahead, in the event that he might have to wage a battle. That seemed to be the only solution, in the world that they were living in.
Kaede began dropping the temperature of the small parameter in which he stood, and turning the rain and mist into a thick snow. The small parameter would follow him, being, the epicenter of the storm. Due to his eccentricity in the Ice Release aspect, Kaede's speed began to noticeably increase under these conditions. His paces rose quickly.

Before he'd the time to follow the two energy sources, a massive black beam engulfed in a grey glow, fell from the sky- specifically, its birth location being a cliff towards the higher ground in Kirigakure. This was what Kaede needed.
In an instant, having prepared himself for the situation in which he might be attacked before arriving at his designated location, he launched a series of handsigns, known only to the Yuki Clan. As the beam fell towards Kaede, a massive dome of ice rose from the snow covered ground beneath his feet, engulfing himself as a whole. As a precaution, without using handsigns, Kaede infused his chakra with the ice that was the dome that surrounded him. Several layers filled in, reinforcing weak points and vital spots on the dome.
Kaede sat on the ground, with one leg underneath him and the other upright, waiting for the beam to come into contact with the Ice Dome technique. The beam struck the dome, leaving several scratches and small cracks in the large infrastructure- the largest crack being on the immediate point of impact. This would allow Kaede to further assess his new-found opponents' types of offense.
He deconstructed the Ice Dome, and continued walking- his storm following him with each pace, disguised under the ever-present mist of Kirigakure. "This is going to be a drag." Kaede said to himself, as he disappeared into the woods outside of the training grounds.

When a user has an intense affinity for the elemental nature, Hyōton, they will gain a boost in both speed and maneuverability when in the snow. Because of this, the user's Hyōton techniques generally also cost 1/2 chakra because they does not have to create the solidified liquid themselves.

¤ Atmosphere [No Translation] ~ B Rank
If a Hyōton user possesses immense Hyōton chakra, it begins to lightly snow/hail whenever the user is in an area. Furthermore, when the user first enters an area, the ground is coated with a thin layer of ice and snow. This technique is passive. By standing still and holding a handseal, the user can decrease or increase the amount of snow that is falling.

¤ Ice Release: Ice Dome [No translation] ~ B Rank
In Ice Release: Ice Dome, the user can quickly create a dome of solid ice around any given target [generally to act as a defense]. It is strong enough to withstand the assault of many explosive tags at once, remaining practically undamaged.

¤ Kanki Kyōka no Michi [Frost Reinforce Method] ~ A Rank
The user will surge additional chakra into one of their techniques- during or after formation-creating an interlaced coating on its frame, and throughout key structure points. By applying this coat, most techniques that would typically melt, shatter, or pierce the user's ice, are found worthless.

Rachael Blackheart-The Harbinger of Despair

~ "Why do we even bother with life?"

Rachael reappeared somewhere in this village, as people seemed to be in awe by what they saw up in the sky earlier. They didn't manage to see Rachael as she arrived from thin air and she simply sighed as she felt bad for these people. She charged another one of her grey ceros from her index finger and fired it at a building, causing a rather large explosion, that destroyed this building along with starting a fire with the nearby buildings. A few people died from being crushed alive by this attack. Others were trapped under the rubble of the fallen buildings. It was a really pity that these people didn't have enough people to defend this village. She noted a few of the residents of this village appeared standing on top of buildings. Others had the courage to approach her, one even went so far to stand behind her, with a kunai placed right on her throat.

These brave men and women were clearly upset that she had the audacity to bring such ruin to their town. They shouted out to her to stop moving, or else they'd end her life. She remained with a serious face, as she didn't seem to care for their threats. Without warning, a loud booming sound could be heard, as she vanished from their eyesight and appeared behind the man who put the kunai on her throat. She was mid air, as she swung her left leg towards his back, as her foot collided with his back. The man fell to the ground, with his spinal cord shatter by the hands of Rachael, and was in absolute pain. She then proceeded to go on and take on the others one by one.

A minute passed and Rachael soon appeared standing on top of a building, looking down on the streets and saw her defeated enemies, as the majority laid on the ground lifeless, while the rest were in severe condition, though thankfully they would live to at least spread the word of Rachael's might. No matter, she sighed and simply continued to walk along the village, as she continued to bring havoc and ruin to the lives of these residents. However, as she continued to walk along the village, starting a few fires here and there, she managed to get lost and ended up on a open field. It was littered with training dummies and weapons lying on the ground everywhere. She was curious to know why this place was seemingly abandoned, but remembered that it was nighttime and chances were, no one bothered with training at this ungodly hour.

"We are judged by what we cannot change..."

Kaede watched as the female traveled across Kirigakure laying waste to nearly everything in her wake. Unable to stop her at the current time, he simply waited for her to find herself in an empty place. Kaede watched as she approached the training grounds through the large forests surrounding it. This would allow him a chance to prepare.
From afar, Kaede expanded the snowstorm that stood in his wake, now, to envelope the entirety of the large training grounds. As a thin layer of snow began covering the open field, he weaved a layer of ice across the ground beneath it. This would give Kaede an advantage, and give his opponent an obstacle. This was all that he would do, in advance. He wanted to be able to analyze her strengths and weaknesses, and laying too many obstacles would simply hinder his ability to do just that.
Kaede noticed now that the female had finally made her way into the training grounds, though, she seemed confused. This might not have been where she had expected to be going, or, that it was too empty for what she was looking for. Nonetheless, hopefully he would be company enough.
Kaede approached, now, as the female stood in the open field that was the training grounds of the Kirigakure. The snowstorm that surrounded him soon engulfed the entirety of the training grounds, as he walked closer the center. He waited, now, knowing that he would likely not have to speak for the female to notice his presence.

As Rachael continued to survey the training grounds, she noticed something odd. It started to snow. She reached out her right hand out, and let a snowflake on her finger. Rubbing it together with her thumb, she realized this was real snow. "I'm guessing this has to do with this little runt who keeps following me." Sighing, she turned around to the direction of this little kid and looked at him in the eyes. "Are you the one behind this snowfall, child? If so, I have no idea how this is going to help you out in battle." Remaining with a serious face, she looked at what appeared to be her opponent. This kid didn't seem like much but he was nevertheless bold enough to challenge her to combat, even after seeing what she did to his comrades.

She sighed, as she felt bad that she was going to fight what appeared to be a rather weak opponent. "I must warn you whoever you are, if you decide to pursue a fight with me, be on your toes. Hit me with everything you have if you expect to survive this little battle between us. Also, never let your guard down for a single second." Before the last words could even hit Kaede's ears, Rachael was already behind her opponent. She had already charged a relatively small and weak cero that was more so intended to test out how fast her opponent was and if his reaction time was worthy to clash with the Harbinger of Despair.

"We are judged by what we cannot change..."

Kaede stared blankly at the female. It was beyond evident that she doubted his abilities. This, he would use to his advantage, and keep in mind the entirety of the time. The snow meant that Kaede's speed and maneuverability would increase, but also he would need to use much less chakra for his Suiton and Hyouton jutsu.
Kaede presumed that her strength was in physical combat, however she still had quite a decent amount of capability in her equal to Ninjutsu. He also noted that her speed was immense, and however he hadn't yet known if he'd seen her maximum speed, he still knew that he was faster in the snow.
In an instant, as Kaede was silently contemplating, the female appeared behind himself. She was merely standing behind him- he'd assumed she was about to attack him with that beam of hers, due to the fact that she didn't appear to be, in any way, prepared to physically attack him.
Immediately Kaede heard the same disrupt sound that the previous beams she had created made. Its frequency was lower in tone than the previous ones- he had presumed that this may have meant that it was weaker. He began melting the water around his feet, preparing to use a very large amount of it. Ram, Horse, Bird. In a sudden, a tornado of water rose around Kaede- himself standing in the eye, using it as a defensive mechanism. The beam fired enveloped the outside of the whirlpool, following the flow of water, but never made its way inside.
Kaede, now, rose a single ice mirror from the ground in front of him, within the tornado. He then rose another behind where the female was standing, and walked through the first and outwards the second, as the Mizu Tatsumaki technique faded, along with the cero. He sighed, and began to speak, "My name is Kaede Aoi Kaetorii. I am A ranked in this village."

Rachael was surprised, as she saw her opponent negate her cero. Granted it wasn't a very strong one but still a rather impressive feat to accomplish. Though as usual, Rachael's facial expression didn't change at all. She simply remained focused on her opponent, who stated his name and his rank in the village. "I see..." So this man was a A ranked combatant in this village? She didn't know what that meant, but the way he carried himself by saying this, she could only assume this was a significant rank in the village. "Since you graced me with your name and rank Kaede, I suppose it's only fair that I do so as well. The name's Rachael Blackheart. They call me the Harbinger of Death where I'm from. I'm part of an organization called the Espada, ruled by a group of ten individuals who are greatly feared in my world."

Pausing for a moment, Rachael then proceeded to grab her right collar and pulled it away from her neck, revealing a large black tattoo with the number four on it. "I'm currently ranked the fourth deadliest from the espada, so I hope you bring your a-game to this fight child. It'd be a shame if I have to kill another person from your village in battle." With that, she closed her mouth and started to walk over to her opponent before another booming sound could be heard, as she reappeared in front of her opponent. Only this time, instead of a cero being charged from her fingers, her fist came crashing down at her opponent with incredible power behind the blow.

"We are judged by what we cannot change..."

Kaede noted that, despite her ignorance, "Rachael"- as her name was- seemed quite confident in her abilities, and quite disbelieving of her opponent's. He remained silent the entirety of the time that she spoke, paying mind to every detail- his face remained in one set position the full amount of time, as Kaede had no reason to change it.
As Rachael spoke one final threat and a note of advice which she had likely assumed Kaede would be needing, she approached. In yet another instant, she disappeared and reappeared, this time, facing Kaede. Based on her stance, it was unlikely that she would use another non-physically offensive attack. He observed her hands, and noted that, opposed to previously creating the same beam in which she had formed before, her hands were in an otherwise position. Kaede analyzed that she was going to keep her stance, remain in position, and physically attack in some manner- likely with her fists, based on the manner in which she stood.
Due to his observations, Kaede began flowing Hyouton chakra through his arms, as he prepared to draw both of his blades. Once again, utilizing the current weather condition, he, in an instant, completed the Iadou technique, in which he unsheathed and again sheathed both of his blades in one fluid motion in less time than the naked eye could comprehend. In the extreme linear motion, the two blades perpendicularly slashed across where Rachael's fist had launched from, all the while Kaede had moved himself backwards, out of Rachael's immediate reach, in the scenario that his opponent's blow would somehow make its way through both of his blades.

¤ Iaidō [Way of the Iai] ~ C Rank
The term Iaidō refers to a specific style of kenjutsu that is concerned with the smooth, controlled movements of drawing the sword from its sheath, while striking or cutting an opponent, removing blood from the blade, and then replacing the sword back into its place in the sheath. The linear motion and force applied to draw the sword from its sheath results in slashes that are faster and stronger than ones realized with the sword already drawn. The speed at which these techniques can be executed- the initial strike in particular- is such, that when performed by a skilled user, it can prevent enemy shinobi from forming hand seals [therefore also preventing them from casting ninjutsu], by exploiting the small opening that these movements create. This makes them highly effective against most shinobi and potentially, those of even Hanzō's caliber, if performed by one who has mastered the style.

Rachael noticed that as she spoke, the kid Kaede remained silent, observing her every move, as she spoke. Good. At least it was clear that this kid was given proper training by his village. As she then came in to strike with her fist, she noticed that the boy reacted immediately and reached for his two swords. Before long, she noticed that he had cut off her hand cleanly off her arm. Keeping a neutral face, she watched it fall to the ground and sighed. She picked it up with her other hand and looked at it, before she crushed it, as it faded away into dust. Then looking at her opponent, she began to speak.

"What a shame. That attack sure did a number on me." Suddenly, her right arm started to heal, as black energy started to flow from her wound. As it started to flow out, the form of a hand started to take shape, as it quickly took on the form of her skin color and such until it regenerated to it's original state. "Oh, just a quick heads up. Remember that white haired woman I was with who wielded that massive sword on her back? Well we're the only espada in the entire espada army to possess high speed regeneration. So, if you plan on winning this battle, give up. Run away now before I have to end your life so shortly." With that, she vanished again, appearing mid air in front of Kaede, as her right foot came flying towards his midsection.

Kaede watched as Rachael's hand fell completely off. It was interesting that she hadn't reacted in the slightest, nor did she seem to care at all. The reason for this soon made itself apparent- her arm seemed to replenish and regenerate itself in entirety, as if nothing had ever occurred. This was interesting, and meant Kaede would not be able to defeat her with his own basic attacks. He would have to use her own attacks against her.
As Kaede devised a plan, he began countering Rachael's current offensives. As she threw a kick at him, he merely melted into the snow, moving himself to the opposite side of the training grounds without any evidence until the point in which he once again took his regular form. Kaede would begin adding to the weather's current status. He rose the two forefingers of his right hand in front of himself- the tips of his forefingers parallel to his nose and the bottom of his palm parallel to his lower neck. Quickly, a thick fog infused with Kaede's chakra began overtaking the entirety of the training grounds. This technique would only allow Rachael to see close range, unless she happened to have the Byakugan Doujutsu, which she evidently hadn't. The only others who could maneuver through the Kirigakure no Jutsu were other ninja of the Kirigakure.
Kaede would stall his opponent, and learn more of her style in the meantime. Up until the point that she would strengthen that beam of hers to an extremity of power, he would merely continue to prolong the battle.

Reappearing, she slid a bit across the snow, as she regained her footing in this snowy environment. Looking at where he reappeared, Rachael sighed. "Petty tricks like this will only work for so long child. Just give it up now before you witness my true power." She then noticed that Kaede began to use yet another attack. Rachael remained standing, as she waited for his attack to hit her. However, she noticed that a very dense and thick fog covered the battlefield, as she wondered what was the purpose of this all.

No matter, this was a pointless game that Kaede was playing, and Rachael was by no means in it to play pointless games. She raised her arms, as she pointed both her fingers in opposite directions. Each finger was charging a rather small cero. However, these cero's were significantly powerful compared to the others she fired earlier. Without warning, bam. She fired two. Turning slightly, she fired another two, follow by another two, as she was clearly out the fog for a brief moment, as she was out to find her opponent. After firing several cero, she finally found her opponent observing her. Without warning, a booming sound could be heard five times, as she vanished the first, appeared in front of him, along his side, and behind him, as she fired off four cero's, all equal in power, as they came crashing down on her opponent.

Then standing on top of a tree, Rachael wondered if her opponent could withstand this onslaught of attacks that she performed. Granted yes, it was a bit overboard, but hey, this wasn't a game. This was war. Things like this were bound to happen when people engaged in combat with opponents of such magnitude such as Rachael. No matter, she sighed, as she felt rather bad for the kid, as she doubted he could survive her onslaught, but would probably be impressed if she saw him walk out unharmed from this move.

"We are judged by what we cannot change..."

Kaede watched blankly as Rachael recklessly attempted to clear out the fog, to no avail. Her attacks would, yes, prove to have light attributes, but the fog would remain for as long as Kaede controlled it. He strengthened his foothold on the ground, by putting layers of ice around his boots, attaching himself to the ground, so he could be completely in sync with the ice he had lain beneath the snow. This was not what Kaede wanted, but he had been prepared for an attack such as this, since the beginning of the battle. This was one of the exact reasons why he'd lain the layer of ice beneath the snow, before the battle had even begun. He then rose a series of ice mirrors in random locations on the field, as he had no strategic plan, besides avoiding death.
Kaede noted a crashing sound, then another, and another, and another. He had already deducted that this loud noise was made every time that Rachael would teleport to a different location. Her current locations, were each of the four cardinal directions around Kaede's own body. With an almost immediate reaction, four ice mirrors rose on each of Kaede's flanks. Due to his mastery in the simple ice mirror technique, he didn't require handsigns to raise them.
Each of the four cero that were launched at Kaede struck a mirror. The first went through the mirror, and out another that had been placed elsewhere in the training grounds; the second did the same as the first; the third, as well; the fourth, and final, slightly cracked the mirror, though it did the same as the others. As the fourth mirror cracked, Kaede was thrown slightly over towards his right, however, one of the mirrors around him prevented himself from falling. These beams were stronger than the others, very evidently.
Kaede stood where he was, and melted all of the mirrors he had created, back into the snow surrounding the training grounds. Rachael didn't seem to have much patience left, if any, which is exactly what Kaede had been waiting for.

¤ Hyōton: Makyō Hakuhyō [Ice Release: Demonic Mirroring Thin Ice] ~ C Rank
In Hyōton: Makyō Hakuhyō, the user vanishes and reappears in any desired location [often behind the enemy], then creates a single ice mirror. The user will then leap into the mirror from the rear and come out from the front, [generally] slashing the enemy.

¤ Frozen Soul [No Translation] ~ C Rank
When a user has an intense affinity for the elemental nature, Hyōton, they will gain a boost in both speed and maneuverability when in the snow. Because of this, the user's Hyōton techniques generally also cost 1/2 chakra because they does not have to create the solidified liquid themselves.

~ "Why do we even bother with life?"

Rachael watched as her cero's didn't manage to lift the fog from the battlefield as she sighed once more. This kid was certainly good at playing tricks and avoiding her blows. "You know this is starting to get rather boring kid. You better start taking this fight serious. Like I said before, once I go all out, you better start praying to your god." She sighed, as she started to walk along the training grounds. Looking around, she was giving her surroundings a better grasp of things. It seemed odd to be doing such a thing at this point, as their fight was already long begun. No matter, Rachael did just this and continued to do so for ten minutes.

Then without warning, another booming sound could be heard, as she appeared two hundred feet above from the training grounds. She began to charge cero's from her left index finger and fired it. This one was a bit different though, as she let this one continually stream out from her finger, much like a lazer. Standing in the air, she started to turn around, as the beam of energy started to create a wall of fire around the battlefield. Once complete, Rachael appeared in front of Kaede and began to speak again. "Alright. Now don't try getting any ideas thinking you can just run away from the battle now that I'm not going to hold back my strength against a child like you." With that, she came flying at her opponent, not using her sonido like she had in previous occasions, with her fist flying straight towards the child's face. Only difference this time was that her fist was covered in black colored reiatsu, as it was to add even more power behind her blow.
