The Star Ratings System is amazing for character customization! This system means you can follow whatever paths you want to in this world and combine paths to create a totally unique character.
Want a technopagan like Jenny Calendar? No problem! Simply take 5 stars in Magic User and 5 stars in Technocrat!
Want a Jack of All Trades? That's cool with us! Just earn one or 2 stars in all of the categories! If you can dream it you can create it!
There are 8 paths a character may travels: Old School Slayer, New School Slayer, Watcher, Magic User, Occult, Technocrat, Initiative, and Human. Each class of character carries with it its own benefits and drawbacks. Players are encouraged to envision a character and combine classes to make it so. That is why we have this star system - so what you envision, you can create! We know not everyone has just one interest in life and sometimes a new path opens up in front of a character out of the blue, especially with the supernatural involved! We wanted a system to reflect that to encourage players to find their own developmental arc.
Each character can earn a maximum of 10 stars. Certain events can allow your character more than 10 but 10 is all you start off being able to earn. 10 star (maximum) characters, however, are very rare and are only for those very dedicated shop-goers. A player may not work on more than 1 star at a time. (Meaning they may not work on one star for Magic User and 1 star for Watcher simultaneously.) Roleplays do not carry over from one star to the next. Any unfinished RPs at the time of obtaining a star are considered ineligible to grow the next. Only RPs started after the official star submission date are eligible for new growth. See the Growth How To Guide in the Information subforum.

10 Star Characters
10 Star characters are very rare and are granted only by GM discretion for dedicated shop-goers that have been, to us, integral to their path/team. There are RP requirements to obtain a character's 10th star and once those requirements are met a character may submit for their official growth as normal. HOWEVER, this 10th star is not official. The submission only tells us that you are eligible for possibly obtaining a maxed character.
In the meantime your character will only have the 9th star abilities. If the staff decides that a character could be good as a 10 star character a GM will PM that player and discuss what is to happen next. This is a BIG SECRET as it will often coincide with a GM plot. All players are encouraged to keep this secrecy and if it is found that a player breaks this confidence this may result in losing the 10th star.
All 10 star characters are considered maxed and must undergo a GM run plot to obtain their 10th star on top of the rp requirements. This plot will be added into the main shop plot and will become canon. Player characters may even become eligible to become path leaders in those paths without a canon NPC in rare cases.
Please note that even 1 star in another path negates a players ability to obtain 10 star status. Please also note that only 1 character is eligible for 10 star status per player. If a player has more than one character that is eligible we will seek to fill a need first. If the player has a preference for what character reaches this rank they may express that when submitting for 10th star status.
Characters they do not wish to reach 10th star status do not need to fulfill the RP requirements and do not need to be submitted if the RP requirements are met. They will be considered honorary 10th stars but will not have those additional benefits.
