This is based on a nice little story I read someone else posted in chatterbox. It's only semi-true.:
Gaia was once a place of perfection. A very desirable place on the web where literates talked to eachother in the ancient literate language. They were never unkind to eachother and tried to avoid fighting.
But the evil n00bs started to want to live in this desirable place of perfection. They started to move in and that was when the trouble started. They began filling meaningful threads with jibberish of horrid sentences that made little sense.
You see, n00b meant in both their language and the literate language "greedy, illiterate people". But the n00bs were proud of this.
As the trouble continued to occur, the Gaians congregated together and came up with a mod system. They would choose the most respectable Gaians and give them the power to ban these n00bs.
Now, the n00bs, in their stupidity, figured out that if they started multiple accounts, they could have more random events and thus get more money and buy everything their illiterate hearts desired. But the Gaians wore these items as pixels for that was what they were. Not only did the n00bs find out about the multiple accounts, but they also figured out the mod system. So the n00bs met together and figured they would pose as normal Gaians and be chosen as mods.
The n00bs soon gained power this way and banned Gaians and created new rules to make the threads go their way. The Gaians then fled into hiding and became known as "emos" meaning in both the literate and n00b language as "ones with emotions". They wear black and came up with new words we use today in Gaia. They still roam but are hard to find.
But before they fled, they created to Chatterbox forum. This was a forum n00bs could have and post whatever greedy, stupid nonsense they wanted.
And that's a little history for you. Please post comments and questions if you wish. If you read it all, thank you very much.

I like that, very intriguing. Also, according to everyone that I have spoken with that has been on this site for a long time, each has claimed that it is exactly as the story says.

What a tragic story. ::sniff:: If only the n00bs could see the pain they cause.

Wow. What a beautiful story. Though I don't believe it. I'm not the oldest of members (been on Gaia about a year and a half) but I don't believe that Gaia was ever perfect. Humans are flawed and thus, human creations are flawed.
You know, it's funny how someone who can't spell 'you' can even manage register an account at Gaia. Afterall, the step-by-step process is very complex! Actually, most of my school friends who are Gaia newbies had trouble with the registering. They couldn't figure out how to change their appearance and what on earth the word 'reffered' meant. Sigh.

Cute story, yet some seem to forget most these "n00bs" are really just under children, and "internet chat speakers". Some with awful gammar, and poor sentence structure, yet they're learning, and they don't seem to phsyically hurting any literates.
Ever take note that it's usually the literates who seem to go and flame theses illiterate threads, and make "anti-illiterate threads", not that this is one. Just as long as they seem to stay "tame", I don't have a problem with them.

N00bs are infectious parasites and no place is free of them for long, alas. They like places where there are nice people to get items from and once you let them in they start to crawl under your skin. Then they tell all their friends about how they got free stuff from you and then more and more start crawling under your skin, demanding free stuff and graphics and what have you. Until your skin pulses with all the n00bs under your skin, creeping and crawling, till there are too many and you explode, unleashing a massive n00b populace upon another poor literate Gaian.
Eeeep! *Creeps herself out.*

Not all of us who retreated to islands of literate safety became "emos"...
Some of us banded together to form organized cabals of warrior-poets who quietly infiltrate n00b strongholds and either destroy it from within or, for the more merciful among us, clandestinely convert isolated n00bs who stray from the flock to the light of proper grammar and punctuation.
The war goes on...

I've been literate on the internet since I started, then went messed up for a couple years, then cleaned up back to literacy. I'm not even 13 and I'm literate. And even adults act jejune on the internet with their incorrect grammar over the internet (just see my mom) And I'm not "flaming" anyone. I'm just saying.

I myself am only 12 years old and when I was 10, I was literate. The only area I stayed illiterate was in really fast chatrooms but since then, I've learnt how to type faster so I even type literate in a chatroom. Although I do admit that the majority of n00bs are children...
