Skills and Techniques This thread is your guide to Skills and Techniques. Here, you will know the difference between the two, and how they are obtained and used. We'll start by settling the differences between the two. They are improved by adding Skill Points (SkP) to them. The higher the SkP of a skill, the more efficient the Technique that falls under that particular skill becomes. More effective than «Delay» due to focus on only defending. ______________ ○ EXP: 1 | 1000_________WEAPON___________ • «Slant» ▪▫ One-Handed Long Sword ______________ ○ Range: Short ______________ ○ Type: Slash ______________ ○ Effect: A simple sword skill slashing diagonally once. ______________ ○ Damage: +5 ______________ ○ Level Requirement: 1 ______________ ○ EXP: 1 | 1000 These are your character's Techniques.Techniques are things like: «Slant», «Parry», «Beta Cooking», and «Sprint». Techniques fall under specific Skills, and are collectively set of skills. Indivudualy, they are called Techniques, but collectively they are a set of Skills. We use the word "Technique" or "Techniques" to describe them so as to avoid confusion. Like Skills, the efficiency and power of Techniques improve by adding points called Technique Points (TP) into them. Techniques become more potent when they have more TP allocated into them. There are many kinds of Techniques, and some are even unique to a player, but there ARE limitted Technique Points to be accumulated by a player as one increases in level. so be sure to allocate them wisely.

Skills and Techniques are important and fundamental within the game of Sword Art Online. In a game without any sort of magic, your ability to properly use and wield your Skills and Techniques is proportional to your strength. There are four main types of Skills: Combat, Non-Combat, Passive, and Weapon. Various Techniques fall under each category of skill, which range from offensive to defensive Techniques, to Special Techniques and unique and customized techniques.
Combat
Combat Techniques are universal, and used only during battle with either monsters or against other players. Must be initiated to activate.
Non-Combat
Techniques which fall under Non-Combat are universal skills that can be used either during or outside of battle. Must be initiated through the user menu to activate.
Passive
Passive Techniques are universal skills that can be used either during or outside of battle. Does not require initiation to activate.
Weapon
Techniques under the Weapon Skill are specific. They can only be used during battle. Must be initiated to activate.Weapon Skills/Techniques can further be divided into four categories referring to the type of weapon required to activate such skills: Thrust, Slash, Pierce, and Blunt.
Skills and Techniques are Ranked according to the number of Skill Points(SkP) and Technique Points(TP) earned or allocated within them.
F [1-100] E [101-199] D [200-299] C [300-399] B [400-499] A [500-599] S [600-699] SS [700-799] SSS [800-899] M [900-1000]
Only Weapon Techniques utilize Stamina - one of the four Stat Attributes. In a sense, Stamina can be comparable to mana in certain MMORPG's. The amount of Stamina consumed from using a Technique is determined by the class of the Technique used. Naturally the higher the class, the stronger the outcome, and the more energy is needed to activate. It is also possible to lower the Rank of the Technique to reduce the amount of Stamina needed.
Stamina Cost of Techniques Used:
F - 0 Stamina E - 1 Stamina D - 2 Stamina C - 3 Stamina B - 4 Stamina A - 5 Stamina S+ - 10 Stamina M - 15 Stamina

Determining Skill Proficiency and Technique Effectiveness Skill _________SKILL MASTERY ▪▫ 1500 [1500] ___________ • Combat ▪▫ 500 | 1000 ___________ • Non-Combat ▪▫ 100 | 1000 ___________ • Passive ▪▫ 400 | 1000 ___________ • Weapon ▪▫ 500 | 1000 Your points put into your Skill generally determines your overall proficiency of that Skill. What this means is that, in-game, it simply allows you to make more Techniques ,which fall under that particular Skill, available to you. In other words, putting more points into your Skill gives you more Open Technique Slots, to be used so you can add more Techniques under that particular skill. Putting more points into a certain Skill does not mean that one or all Technique(s) which fall under that Skill will all be automatically 100% efficient. This is a misconception. The only way in which you can get your Techniques to be stronger than another's is by putting Technique Points into that certain Technique. This is done to avoid confusion.
To determine the number of Open Technique Slots, we'll make use of the Skill Ranking System:
Skill Rank of a particular Skill | Open Technique Slots Added in a particular Skill
F [1-100] SkP | Number of Slots Available: 2 [Starting] E [101-199] SkP | Number of Slots Added: 2 D [200-299] SkP | Number of Slots Added: 3 C [300-399] SkP | Number of Slots Added: 3 B [400-499] SkP | Number of Slots Added: 4 A [500-599] SkP | Number of Slots Added: 4 S+ [600-899] SkP | Number of Slots Added: 5 M [900-1000]SkP | Number of Slots Added: 5 Technique ___________ • «Slant» ▪▫ One-Handed Long Sword ______________ ○ Range: Short ______________ ○ Type: Slash ______________ ○ Effect: A simple sword skill slashing diagonally once. ______________ ○ Damage: +5______________ ○ Level Requirement: 1 ______________ ○ EXP: 789 | 1000 Your EXP in a particular Technique refers to its effectiveness. As explained, naturally, the higher it is, the stronger it is.
For example, given that:
(A) has Combat Mastery [500|1000] and you are given techniques «Sprint» [400|1000] and [100|1000]«Acrobatics».
This is compared to another given, (B), with Combat Mastery [700|1000], «Sprint» [400|1000], and [300|1000]«Acrobatics».
Naturally, (B) will have more Combat Techniques, and will be better at Acrobatics than (A), having a higher Combat Skill Mastery. However, (B) and (A) have the same level of Sprint, so in-roleplay, they can probably run at the exact same speed.
