PARTY
Within the game of SAO, there are many various quests, monsters and dungeons that cannot be easily defeated by a single player. The best solution for this is to party up with other Players. Parties are formed by simply requesting for another player through your player menu. When parties are formed, a Player's name, health, and level is shown to everyone within the party. The maximum number of players in a party is SIX.
Effects EXP, Items, and Col are shared between party members. A group confirmation screen is shown after a monster is defeated showing how everything has been divided. Quests are also shared among the members as long as the quest in question is available for all members. Goals such as gathering quest items or slaying quest monsters are also shared among all members. The biggest benefit to partying versus going solo is the technique known as "switching". This technique allows a player to land a full powered blow onto the enemy as their fellow party member defends or disrupts the attack and "switches" out while the attacker "switches" in.
GUILD Similar to parties, guilds exist within the game of SAO. The most simple difference is the idea that parties are temporary, while guilds are permanent. To form a guild, a fee of 10,000 Col must be paid. Upon forming a guild a flag is created which represents their guild. A location may also be chosen as the guild's headquarters. Depending on the Floor and location in question, it may or may not cost addition Col. There is NO maximum limit for a Guild.
Effects The one who created the guild becomes the guild's Commander. They may appoint Vice-Commanders and Captains as they see fit. EXP, Items, and Col are NOT shared amongst guild members unless they are in the same party. Private guild messages can be sent by anyone higher than a basic guild member to all members of the guild. Guild members are also given a Teleport Crystal to be able to return to headquarters at a moment's notice.

DUELS
Dueling refers to official battles of Player versus Player (PVP). Duels can only be initiated by both players challenging and accepting through their player menu. Once a duel is initiated, a field is projected in about a 50 yard radius. The field acts as a barrier to prevent outside intervention as well as to keep Players from trying to escape a duel. The only way to deactivate is by fulfilling the conditions required to finish a duel. There are two kinds of duels to be aware of.
One-Hit Duel These are the most common duels used for comparing each other's skills. A countdown starting backwards from 5 will signal the start of the match. The duel declares a winner when either player's HP hits 50% or below. Death cannot occur in this mode. No items or Col is awarded, unless decided by both Players. EXP is given to both the Winner and Loser.
Fatal Duel A duel where both players fight until their HP drops to 0. Death can occur. Items are not awarded, however Col and EXP is given to the victor.
DEATH In any video game, death is a fairly common occurrence. SAO is no exception to the trend. Upon your Player's death, they will lose 15% of their TOTAL word count at the time of their death. If a player has no words in their word count, they must remain in the Room of Resurrection for 300 Words.
