Ok, so, instead of studying for finals after over a month of procrastination I finally put together a new layout for my personal site. I'd like a general critique and some suggestions on a few things. Please note: I test things locally so no mouse over/clicky buttons or display errors. That also means screenshots! Err, browser shots might be a better term for it...

Page - This is what pages will look like, including the homepage
Blog - What the blog will look like, different sidebar
IE bleh - Just to show that CSS gradients (my search button) look like crap in IE

A couple things I'd like suggestions on:

    The page title. It's big and obnoxious and I'm not sure what to do with it. I want to change the color of the text but I'm not sure what color to use. I'll probably end up adding an underline/bottom border though. Should I look at trying to change the font too?

    In the sidebar, I want the color of the "section titles" (ie. the headings) to be different than the text color but, once again, I don't know what color it should be. I originally had them the same color as the links but I figured that would be too confusing... Maybe the font change instead?

I'll probably change the font used for the regular text (or the entire site depending on what happens with the headings), but I'm kinda tired and need to get to bed. edit: Changed font! It's not too different, but I like it better ^_^ Also unless something is a huge usability issue, I probably won't change it unless it's really easy.

edit2: Tweaked a couple things Blog Edit - Page Edit

Thanks for your time! ♥

I actually like the collor scheme you used, purple on white looks good, fits the overall "magical" style your going for.

Pretty nice layout you've got going on. I'm really loving the logo work you've got going on there. And the color scheme blends really well.

I know virtually nothing about CSS, but here are my design critiques;

I personally preferred the old font you used. The new one almost seems to thin, and can be bit hard on the eyes at first, that that might just be me.

For the headings, I like the purple. I would recommend possibly making the links a lighter purple so they can still be easily distinguished from the normal text. Lighter colors are also easier for the eye to catch, so it would pull the reader's eyes to the links they might be looking for. After all, if you're gonna put in a link, you're obviously wanting them to click it. :3

On the navbar on top, I wouldn't have such a bright gloss on them. There's some instances where the shine clashes the text, resulting with white-on-white, making the text just slightly harder to read.

As for the title, it's not that it's too big, it could just use a slight re-arrangement in content placement. I would suggest moving the "Dreamling" logo up so that it's directly horizontal of the crescent moon logo. Then move the "Welcome to Dreamling" bog up so that it's right below the navbar. Then you can let the body of the page be moved up, and your title won't be so big.

This is all just how I feel though. Go with what you think looks best. But over all, I think the layout looks really nice! smile

Thank you! ^_^ I really love purple and it's an underused color (in my experience) for web design. I can understand why though xD

I still don't feel comfortable with most of the CSS3 stuff so most of it's images ^ ^;; All the links at the top, all the script font, all the images at the bottom, and the containing boxes for the top-most and bottom-most ones are all images... Yes, I'm lazy to change it *hides*

And I was too lazy to change the top navigation. I agree with your point though, the first two could be difficult to read. Tweaked a few more things, as per your suggestions: Blog Edit - Page Edit

While I didn't change the font itself, I made it a little brighter and a hair larger. I'm partial to hard to read fonts apparently xD Also Made the links lighter and more pink while changing the headings to a purple. Personally I think it looks strange, they're so close in color yet different enough for me to pause. I can also see the purple being difficult to read.

When I was talking about the page title, I meant where it says "Sample Page." It's difficult for me to communicate because I don't want to explain things people already know or start talking over people's heads like I expect them to understand a topic they may not have a background/be interested in. So I try to avoid both extremes by being (unintentionally) extremely vague >.< Sorry about the confusion ; _;

Other than that, I stylized block quotes. Sloppily though, I'm starting to run out of steam as far as ideas go.

Thank you both for your replies! ♥

Thank you ♥ And to answer your question: kinda

It's a really good thought, removing the bottom border, I think ever since I started messing with wordpress themes I always used that. And I figured out why just now. Being my lazy self, I didn't bother installing all the plugins I use just to test it out. So your suggestion made me do that (so thank you! ♥) and figured out that yes, from the screen shots it would look a lot better without a border. But adding in Post Avatar without a border looks wonky to me. I'm planning on keeping the border for posts at least, for pages and the navigation I haven't decided what I'm going to do >.< I still the the purple is too dark and looks too similar to the link colors but I can't think of a better alternative...

Thank you very much for your input! And no biggie with CSS, it's harder for me to get something to look right than it is to "make it happen" with CSS. I was more lamenting the fact that IE doesn't make my search button look pretty and that's why I'm not using it for more stuff.

Sorry about the length ^ ^;;
