Again?

Alli looked sadly down at her glass plate as a pile of fish sticks sat there. It looked rather out of place, the delicate plate formed from concentrated air and touches of ice to make snowflake designs on it. It was too fine of a piece to have battered fish of some unknown origin and age to sit on it. At least, that was the woman's feelings on the matter as she moved to sit on a benched seat.

Today, students and staff alike were to use their gift to collect their food and eat. It was a way to force people to use their magic and practice real world applications. It really was unfair for some elements, how was an element of decay supposed to create a plate? Alli didn't know and she didn't ask. The school was successful for many years before her world even had a door so their methods must work.

As the woman sat with her unwanted lunch, her soft blue eyes looked about the room. It was fairly empty at the moment, but others would soon be filing in. There were few adults who stuck around the academy after gaining their staffs. There were far too many adventures to have out among the gate worlds and lots of riches and fame to be made as a user of magic. Alli guessed she was the oldest, though some species would think she looked quite young. Her fingers picked at a stick of fish as she thought of ways to change its composition.

Zev huffed as he let his bag fall to the floor next to his chair. Use-your-gift-for-food days were something he had discovered soon after he joined the academy and instantly disliked. Honestly, what was he supposed to do? Conjure an illusion as a meal? No, thank you. He'd rather eat solids than... whatever illusions were. Maybe if he was more handy with fire he could manage something - hunt and cook, maybe? - but illusions were useless for it. Not to mention that, even if there was a way, the whole process was just too draining for lunch being the only reward. He slumped on the chair nursing a hot cup of coffee in his hands. At least he could get coffee without acting like a clown. He took a sip, his black eyes scanning the room and the people inside. Well, the coffee wasn't too bad. He could live with it as his only sustenance for the day; not like he ate much in regular days. Zev leaned back on his chair and switched the cup to his left hand so he could fish out a book from his bag with the other one. Once he had it, he settled in a comfortable position and immersed himself in the story in front of him.

Verta Sans
Location:Cafetaria Feelings:Hungry Thoughts:I still can't believe I did that.

Verta got to the door to the cafeteria just in time. He had slowly gotten weaker and weaker on his move from his dorm to here. A sinking feeling developed in his stomach as he read the bulletin board. "Another one of this?...Well maybe I'll be able to actually eat today." Glancing around the place, he noticed the people that could use their powers were gathered to one area and the others were sipping coffee or juice by themselves.

Finding a secluded section, Verta sat quietly and closed his eyes and began concentrating. The wind picked up around him very slowly. He tried to keep it contained around him but was sure a few stray strands might ruffle some feathers. Disregarding that, Verta reached out with a few tendrils to grab a few pieces of fruit and a turkey sandwich. The trick was not to mix the sandwich up in the air as it wasn't a solid thing.

The apple and orange got to the table just fine and the sandwich wasn't perfect but it was all in one piece. With that challenge done, he had to focus on forming a plate with which to eat off of, good lord this was rough. The plate formed easily enough but holding it together was another story all together. He had to eat the sandwich in a hurry to be sure the crumbs fell there as opposed to the table he was sitting at.

Alliana slowly flicked each fish stick towards the trash. They were all cold by now. That was the trouble with making an ice plate. The woman stood and looked about the cafeteria. She could just return to her rooms, but she was supposed to find a student to take in and mentor. Several, actually, but that had yet to happen. Very few students would speak with Alliana and she was too quiet to start a conversation.

The angel leaned back in her chair and watched the two nearest her. One had an ability with wind, the other simply sipped on coffee.

Verta, now full of fruit, turkey, break and some vegetables, stood from his seat. He was testing himself yet again. What about if I stand and try to move the air around here? This is probably what kept him so far above everyone else. A slight falter allowed a few crumbs to fall through the window of air. It was probably beneficial that he hadn't noticed quite yet.

The air plate moved through the air with a jerk every now and again but ended up at the trashcan all the same. Exhaling heavily, Verta allowed the air to dissipate into its original concentration. The remaining food fell into the bin. It was only then that Verta looked down and saw the crumbs and cursed at him self quietly before running a hand across the table and moving towards the door. It's outside time.

» Sinjini hated the cafeteria. At home she could merely snap her fingers at a servant and have plates of delicacies brought to her to pick through at her leisure: bringing her food was what the lower castes were for. To be forced to eat in public was... humiliating! Did they take her for some common peasant?

Still, after passing her test, her stomach was undoubtedly rumbling. Almost as importantly, her beloved little Ahi was beginning to move in the restless way that always indicated that the snake was hungry. And she certainly couldn't subject her loyal little darling to needing to hunt - especially when she was still feeling a little shaky from her time-jumping experience in the testing room and wanted the comfort of his familiar weight around her neck. And with the bizarre inhuman creatures who were permitted to study here for some reason - well, the cafeteria surely had something a snake could eat. A mouse, maybe.

She would simply have to grit her teeth and bear it. Chin up, the haughty princess strode into the cafeteria, making a beeline for the - ugh - line. Which was when she discovered that today was a 'use your gift for food' day.

"What?" Sinjini demanded, voice loud. "But I'm hungry now - and so is my snake! How am I meant to use time to get food? This is barbaric!" To punctuate her point, the princess stomped her foot, mouth turned down in an angry pout.

((Mrr didn't read the first post starting over. v.v; ))

Brady, having enjoyed his encounter with the giant scorpion, was famished beyond all reason. He came into the cafeteria ready for some pizza and maybe a cake and some diet soda would be nice and of course some meat of some sort...

"Use your powers for food?... WHAAAAAAT?! You gotta be KIDDING- I'm STARVING over here!"

He was about to curse a little when he noticed another girl at the line. He looked at her, shut his mouth, and tried to calm down. What is that a...

Snake. Snake?! FROG+SNAKE=BAD.

Brady had to keep his cool though. He was a person right now, not a frog. No one even knew he COULD turn into a frog. This was fine. He was fine. He just needed to learn how to get some food... With water.

Guess it wasn't so bad, all things considering. That meant no Pizza though.

Bummer.

» Ahi shifted subtly on Sinjini's shoulders, tongue flicking in and out. Perhaps it was random coincidence his dark eyes came to rest on Brady, his wedge-shaped head quite easily spotted despite the veil that obscured most of his emerald body in shadow. Or perhaps the little snake could sense some lingering froglike aura, and deemed the boy worthy of patient inspection. Are you edible? the snake's steady stare seemed to say.

His owner, meanwhile, was busy glaring at the lunchroom at large. "This is utterly ridiculous!" Belatedly noticing the focus of her pet's attention, the girl turned her sharp stare onto Brady, brows furrowing. "This is absurd," she told him, scowling as if it was his own personal fault.
PostPosted: Mon Dec 03, 2012 8:21 pm

"I'll say," Brady agreed, "Pretty sure your scarf wants to eat me!" Brady looked back at the fork-tongued creature, like a frog trapped in a corner. "Don't you bite me scales, I'll scorpion you; I have one of those now." He noticed black also where the snake was. Hair; long black hair. He looked at the woman for the first time and DAMN. She could Arabia his night ANY day.

"Um... S-so what are you gonna do for your food then? You have a food-growing power or something you might be able to use or something, maybe?"

» "Don't be absurd, peasant," Sinjini snapped, though inwardly his obvious fear of her pet left her feeling rather pleased. Finally something of hers was getting respect, even if it was respect through fear. She'd take what she could get. "And how dare you threaten him with a scorpion! He isn't going to hurt you, you idiot. Don't you know anything about snakes?"

Ahi continued to stare contemplatively at Brady. His tongue flicked in and out, in and out. Smelt like food. Didn't look like food. A stumper, surely.

Oblivious to his admiration of her appearance, she turned her head to scowl once again at the cafeteria and its stupid lack of cushions and bonbons and obedient servants. "Time," she told Brady, scowling. "But short of jumping forward to tomorrow in hopes this ridiculous rule won't be in place, I don't see how it will help me."

And then an idea occurred to her. As casually as she could manage, the princess inquired, "And you?"

[C]elestria [L]uck

July 7thxx{>Hedge Wizard<}xxTwenty

Was her luck having a raging war with one another? Was bad trying to overcome good and good trying to defend against bad? Cause everything that has happened today has gone either way. Passing her exam to become Hedge Wizard was flipping awesome! Falling in the pond after flying around with utter joy in front of a really cute guy was embarrassing. Getting her first magical object is totally sweet! Having a black and red surfboard that was half her size with the ability of elasticity was downright ridiculous! See, where I'm going with this? It's been nothing but a battle between her luck.

Something yummy to eat will totally calm her nerves. If only, today was not 'Use your gift' day. In exchange for food, you must do a display of your element. Oh joy. Okay, she must do something really simple and not energy-consuming. Easy! Though there were two students ahead of her that was complaining about this. She doesn't blame them. Celestria dreaded this day and usually went hungry because she could not display her element to obtain her meals. However, there were a few kind souls who would share their food with her. Maybe if she's not able to display her element, she could mooch off one of the professors or students who already got their's.

That could definitely work. Clearing her throat loud enough to grab the attention of the female and male before her, Celestria had a business proposal that could benefit all three, or rather four. "Excuse me, sorry to bother. But I couldn't help overhear your complaints. I think I know how the three of us could get our meals." She found ways around the system before. Maybe her surfboard can actually help her.

Peasant? He hoped she was delusional and not royalty. Of all the people he could potentially offend, the LEAST forgiving was royalty. Almighty have mercy, just this once...

Then he noticed her sudden honey-sweet tone and he had to double-take. "Wh... Me? Well, I mean, my element is water but I don't see how that's going to get me my pizza. You think they've got a take-out nearby or..."

Brady turned around to see another student. Another sexy dame with long hair... This had to be some trick; too good to be true. WHERE were all these girls coming from? And this one had an idea to get food. "What? Yeah, I'm all ears!" He said to the new woman, his smile wide with the hope of a tasty meal.

Time. Useful with everything else, not so useful when it comes down to food. He shuffled through the cafeteria, smiling at anyone he passed. But he didn't completely notice them; he was too lost in thought. It takes time to make good food. But... that seems more of a pun than anything else here. Maybe I could speed up time a bit and let something thaw out? Dues... how long of a shelf life does anything they have here even have. Is it even kept on shelves? Or do they have some magical doo-hickey jar things you see in films? ...Oh deus, what if there's preserved dead things in there. He had to pause his own mind for a moment as he realized most things he ate had often been "dead things". His home planet wasn't very fond of plants after all... He felt silly and internally kicked himself for that last thought, grinning like an idiot when he did. He glanced towards the menu for a second or so before casually going to get a cup of coffee. He sped up the process, containing a little time bubble around the coffee machine solely to get in the, "use your powers just to eat" day. He felt using it to get coffee would work just fine.
