For Cyber Monday, I bought a new laptop.
I struggled between wanting one that still came with Windows 7 or if I should bite the bullet and try Windows 8. I've heard that it's better suited to a tablet--and I'm sure I would love it on a tablet or smartphone, but on a laptop? Especially one without touch screen?
It's not learning a new interface. In fact, I'm really excited about that part of it. I took a Digital Literacies course, where we discussed this sort of thing. Windows 7 (as well as email and other things) are very corporate/Western-centered. Desktops? Inboxes? Folders? It's a virtual version of an actual desk. There was also a lot of carryover from the now defunct typewriter.
A new design/user interface is actually very, very cool. It's forcing us to change our mindset.
- Does anyone have any thoughts, hopes or complaints about Windows 8?
- Are you willing to try it out, or are you going to stick with Windows 7 (or older) for as long as possible?
- Anyone a Mac user who doesn't have to worry about this sort of thing?
- Any experiences with Windows 8 yet?
Side note, I did consider getting a Mac, but I just can't afford it at this point of time in my life. Maybe in a few years. :]

I'm actually not sure on what would be the best. Sticking to Windows 7 or get windows 8. But I'll be getting a new desktop soon so gonna have windows 8 on it :/
If it's something cool, I'll stick with it. If it's just junk and not so amazing I'll ... Erm

idk what I'll do.
But I heard windows 8 is best for Touch screens and tablets and such.

It's for sure geared toward tablets and/or touchscreen, but I've found it useable so far. I definitely like some parts of it. There's still a "Desktop" app that you can go to that is exactly like Windows 7, where you can use Google Chrome and save things to your desktop, etc. There's just no start menu.
It requires some re-training.

it has pop up problems on a laptop so no..i wont use it until i get a touchscreen.

For me, I don't foresee myself upgrading to Windows 8 in the near future. I'll be hanging onto Win 7 for as long as possible. I'm a creature of habit; I still hate the new Microsoft word (2007 onwards) since I was already familiarized with the old interface of 2003.
