History/ Explanation: About 50 years ago, the fall happened. Overnight thousands of Genies fell to earth, shattering the world as we knew it. Our previous belief in science was starting to fall apart at the seams. Genies, creatures of unimaginable powers were now in our world. If they wanted to, they could have destroyed all of us in a matter of days. But they didn't. They were surprisingly helpful and friendly as a race and made alliances with humans. Now humans have accepted Genies into their culture and work with them for a mutual benefit, called a contract. What the terms of the contract are is up to the pair. This year marks the 13th Annual Great Genie Concours, a competition where a human enters with up to three Genies for the chance to win $10,000,000. This is where most contracts come from, humans agreeing to help the Genie on their personal task if they agreed to help them win the Councours.
What a Genie is? The Genies are a mysterious race of people that crashed to earth 50 years ago. Much is unknown about the race themselves. Genies have amazing powers, there hasn't really been anything that was shown too difficult for one or another to do. Their shape is also unique. There are dragons, humans, peacocks, even dogs. Every Genie is unique, with a unique personality and unique desires. They generally have a more friendly disposition and enjoy friendly competition between genies. All Genies are almost immortal. In this world they were bound to an object, called an Emblem. A object that each Genie is bound to, and retreats into upon being gravely hurt. Ironically A Genie cannot hold their own, or another's Emblem without suffering a great deal which is why they often enjoy having a human companion. If the object is destroyed the Genie vanishes from Earth. Though, destroying the object is near impossible, a old book once survived a Gatling gun attacking it. Genies are not allowed to directly attack humans unless provoked, and humans are not allowed to take advantage of Genies if they hold their emblem. Those were the mutual laws established.
The Concours: The Concours is an event that is hosted every year. It's a large competition that teams of one human and up to three Genies can compete in. With a large sum of money up for grabs, many enter it. The only requirement is that you have a contract with up to three Genies and you're eligible so your background is unimportant. That being said, breaking the rules of the Concours is a crime in all established countries so when you do enter you are bound to the rules. The way the Concours works is it starts off with a large ball (party not sphere) that all partners attend. After you meet and greet everyone everyone is given base points based off of how popular you become among everyone. Then the rest takes place over three months. You can fight with other pairs, and every successful victory earn you 10 points. You can also go on quests to earn points. The quests are posted by the managers of the Concours upon requests from people. However, more than one team can take on the same quest. In the end of the three months the best 5 teams compete in a smaller competition to decide the winners.

((This is the first few pages of my story. Feel free to skim or ignore it just how it starts out, I thought it could be helpful.)) Sarah sat on the couch at her place, staring out the window. The Concours started soon. Soon, everything she had been working for would come to pass. She and Leon would win, and she could pay off her mom's medical expenses. Memories of the day she met him flashed through her head. 3 days... 3 days until the Concours. 72 hours... Sarah had no idea how she was going to find a Genie in that short of time. The question wasn't whether or not she could, she had to. She had simply been unable to find the means to. She couldn't simply hire a Genie, if she could she wouldn't need one. She needed a genie so she could win the “Great Genie Concours”. The problem was finding one to agree to help her. She let the thought slide from her mind for a moment and took in the sight. The river was gently flowing next to her, a stark contrast to the city bustling behind her. If Sarah looked behind her she would see large buildings, cars racing down the road, and the occasional homeless person. However, from this viewpoint she only saw the river and the edge forest. It was amazing how quickly the scenery changed. She often found herself walking down the same old path by the river when she was stressing out. Things had a way of working themselves out when she was near it. It had been 15 years since The Fall. In the fifteen years pretty much all of the Genies had been discovered and contracted. That meant the odds of her finding a new one were low to none, especially in this town. Sarah herself didn't know too much about Genies, but she had heard the history. One night they fell to earth from the sky, changing the world overnight. The Genies were creatures without powers previously reserved for fairy tales. Many still believe that if the Genies wanted to, they could have taken over the earth in 24 hours. Lucky for them, they were peaceful. Sarah had grown up as the world was changing to accommodate the Genies. Suddenly the science everyone had absolute faith in was proven to be negligible to them. The world struggled to try and catch up and learn from the Genies. Soon after “Contracts” started being made between the Genie and a person. A deal in which the Genie would work for a fair trade, varying from person to person. Most Genies seemed to enjoy helping the humans so things were going smoothly, at least so far. This led to Sarah's problem. How in the world was she going to find a Genie, learn enough about how to work with one to win the Concours, and enter in 72 hours? She let out a sigh as she flung her head back, staring at the sky. She approached the bridge that crossed the river, still staring up. As she lowered her head she noticed someone standing on the edge of the bridge. She leaned forward. “What is he doing?” She questioned, running towards him. She knew it was pointless, if whoever it was jumped, there was little she could do to save his life. The man seemed to step back, as if backing away from something. She froze in place as the man jerked a few times, the sounds of gunshots following the sight quickly. Her hands flew up to her mouth as she stared in shock at the falling man. Mid air the man began to glow, and seemed to fade away into something that she saw glint in the light. Two thoughts ran through her head. One, the man wasn't dead, it must have been a Genie and they can't die. Two, the Genie's Emblem was falling, and if it hit river there was a chance no one would see it again. Sarah kicked it up a notch as she ran faster, towards the falling object. It was hard to see, but it caught the light again and she knew where it was. She reached out, jumping at the last second. She closed her eyes and held her breath as she felt herself go underwater into the freezing river. She struggled to find the surface but felt her head smash against a rock and everything went black. When she came to, she was on the riverbank. She sat up, the jacket that was draped over her sliding into her lap. Groaning, she reached a hand to where the wound would be to feel it, but it was absent. She knew she hit her head, it should be bleeding. She should probably be dead. The person sitting next to her, staring at her with cold dark blue eyes finally registered. “Did you save me?” She asked groggily, shivering from her damp clothing. “You saved my Emblem, I simply returned the favor. Put on the jacket, you'll catch a cold.” The stranger said, a slight hint of concern slipping into his cold tone. “Thanks...”Sarah mumbled, slipping the jacket over her shoulders. She noticed him wince in pain and saw his shirt stained red. “Oh my god, that's right. Are you hurt? You were shot! Well.. If you are a Genie then I guess you've probably had worse. If you were human you would have died. But you're not. Genies go into their emblem when seriously hurt right?” She rambled on, nervous. The boy just stared at her, his face expressionless. “I'll be fine. In ten minutes I probably wont even feel this. Yes, we go into our emblem when we're hurt, it speeds up our recovery.” He explained as if it was obvious. Sarah felt the Emblem in her hand warm up slightly. She opened her hand and got a good look at it. It was a necklace, half a heart with three angel wings coming out of the back of it. It seemed to made out of some precious metal. “Wow...” She mumbled, running a finger over one of the things. “Before you even go there, No.” The man said coldly, glaring at the Emblem. “What? Here.” She asked confused before offering him the Emblem. The boy shied away from it, looking nervous. “Genies can't hold their own Emblem. It's bad... Think of holding an open wound.” He said, shifting in place. Sarah blushed. “I know...” She mumbled, when in truth she forgot that fact entirely. That was one reason Genies made contracts, to find someone to keep their Emblem safe for them. The only way to truly kill a Genie was to destroy it's Emblem. Which is easier said then done, a Gatling gun once failed to destroy a paper book that was an Emblem. “Wait! You're a Genie!” Sarah exclaimed suddenly. Her smile wavered as the boy's face darkened. “I already told you, No.” He said turning away. “But please! I need to find a Genie!” She begged. “I have other things to do. Try all you want, I wont cooperate. You saw what my previous “partner” did to me. He tried to get me to work for him as well.” The boy explained a with smug grin, one that wavered as pain overtook him. Grabbing his wound, he took a deep breath. The wound glowed and began to close. After it was gone, he stared at Sarah. What would her reply be? “Please...” She mumbled softly. “I'll do anything. I need the money for my mom.” She said, staring down at the Emblem. The boy sighed. “I've heard it before. I don't care about what kind of new house your family needs. I don't care if she got herself in trouble with gambling. I have my own troubles.” “She's sick in the hospital.” Sarah mumbled quietly. She looked up when the boy froze. He analyzed her, his dark blue eyes piercing into hers. “You're not lying?” He questioned. “Why would I lie about something like this!?” She snapped out in fury. The boy didn't flinch at her outburst, but merely took it as confirmation of her telling the truth. She noticed his hesitation before a sigh. “On one condition I'll help you.” He challenged her. “Anything! I promise!” She exclaimed happily. “After this is over and we win the money, you help me find someone I'm looking for. No matter how long it takes, you will help me search for her.” He stated simply. Sarah nodded quickly. “I promise! After this is over I will do anything I can to help you.” She replied quickly excited she found a Genie. The boy let out a sigh. “Remember this is a contract. You break the contract and death will only await you.” She nodded, not phased by his grim statement. He held out his hand. “I, Leon Seraph Photas, agree to the contract on the condition that after the competition she helps me on my search.” He raised an eyebrow at her, wondering if she knew what to do. Sarah stared at his hand, trying to remember what she had learned about making contracts. “I, Sarah Jessica Libra, agree to the contract on the condition that he does everything he can to help me win the upcoming Genie Concours.” She grabbed his hand as a bright light overtook both of them. Sarah felt connected to the Emblem and Leon, and felt stronger overall. This was her first time making a contract so she had no idea what to expect. When the light faded Leon was standing there, arms outstretched. From his back, two Angelic wings spread out. One white, one black. He looked at Sarah with cold eyes. “Your wings...” Sarah mumbled quietly, reaching out to touch the black one. Leon flinched and his wings quickly disappeared as he turned away. “Contract established.” “Why... why were they like that?” She asked curiously. Sarah flinched when Leon turned suddenly. “Drop it.” He said in a icy tone, turning to walk a little away from her. Sarah shut her mouth, but stared after him. She was slightly pissed off. What was his problem? She was just curious he could have told her it was private in a nicer way. Still... He was her Genie so she had to put up with him. “The contest is in 72 hours. At least, that's when it starts.” She explained walking over.

"72 hours..." The young woman whispered, looking out the window. Her hand rested her head and she looked on. The sun fading off in the horizon. There was a soothing sound of a saxophone, playing a calm, gentle tone. She didn't look; she knew who it was.
There leaning against the wall at the doorway of the bedroom was a man in dark glasses, playing his instrument with a lazy melody. He stopped after a moment, then turned his head toward the woman. "Seriah," a deep, bass voice said to her, "Food is ready downstairs."
"Otto," Seriah asked in a quiet, sad tone, "After the tournament..."
"No one likes a broken record," Otto replied, "Yes, a million times. You seem more somber than usual."
"I'm just tired," Seriah replied, "Our training today, I used too much energy."
"Food will fix that," Otto replied, "Come on."
Seriah hesitated only a second, but began to walk to Otto to join him in meal.
Meanwhile, on the other end of town, a man was enjoying a calming sip of tea. He sighed, enjoying his solitude as he had it. Ambre took part of a box of chocolates given to him by an admirer. "Stupid woman," Ambre smirked, taking another bite of a truffle.
"A sweet treat, but means less to me than slaves. Like words, these treats are only sugary at the mouth, but turns to junk as they carry on. How I hate sweet things." He threw the rest of the box against the wall, the sugary caramel truffles falling to the ground. Even so, he finished the one he had started. "Though in moderation, to taint sweetness, one must take sweetness. I'll make this sacrifice for the satisfaction of knowing how it will end." He chuckled, finishing the truffle and taking another sip of tea. Though as he thought of sweet things, he recognized the emblem he held (I'll let you choose your emblem, Perry. XP ) and his eyes narrowed.
"No matter how sweet the truffle, it will turn up into waste. PERRY!" He yelled, waiting for his genie to show himself.

Perry quickly ran into the room the winged unicorn necklace glowing signalling his arrival. "Yes master what is it?" He asked. "Do you need something." The man seemed upset. He looked at him. "Do you want something to eat or drink?" He asked. The man was eating sweets he should have some real food or he would get sick. Perry smiled pleasantly despite the harshness of his summons. After all his strongest desire was to please and help he didn't care how he was bossed around as long as he was making someone happy.

((Everything is fine, I'm just clarifying a point to be safe. Genies are not slaves, and they are protected by the law to be treated fairly. It's fine if the relationship is a little rough, but they are not slave/master relationships. Partners.

"If you would keep silent for a moment, I'll tell you," Ambre replied with a glare before slowly raising one boot up to the table, leaning back a little in his seat. "The sweets disgust me; I want them out of my sight. Get me something to wash away the taste; things like that are worthless to the worthy. Oh, but if you so chose, Perry, you may take a truffle, as a gift from me." By 'if you so chose' it was more a demand. Perry would know; if he denied a 'gift' by Ambre then he'd most likely get hit rather than humiliated, and watching a worthless creature eat a worthless treat gave Ambre unmeasurable pleasure. He wrapped the delicate chain of the emblem around his fingers, a subtle smile on his lips.
((Just letting you know Leon, these two are going to play quite a villain dynamic. XP The glorious thing about Ambre is that he's my most glorious villain to date with the evilest of intentions. And the most heartless of hearts. Even so, his type of villainy is a type that is both terribly difficult and, when pulled off well, is the most amazing. XP The way he treats Perry will at times be hard to bear, but I promise I won't ruin anything for you, and hopefully it'll help you come up with ideas for villains in your story. ^.^ I do it 'cause you're my friend. ))
"Otto," Seriah asked after a long silence at the table.
"Listenin,' Otto replied as he took a bite of his mac and cheese.
"You still haven't told me why you agreed to help me. I want to know why."
"Should be obvious," Otto said, looking straight ahead as he spoke, a smirk on his lips. "I want the money for the tournament, needed a genie."
Seriah didn't think Otto really wanted the money. There had to be something else. "But you live so comfortably. What could you possibly want the money for?"
"Does it matter?" Otto asked, taking another bite.
"It DOES matter. I want to know what your motive is for winning. I have to know."
"Would it keep you from fighting if you didn't?"
"No," Seriah confessed.
"So its just curiosity that keeps you wanting to know."
"Mostly," Seriah admitted, then opened her mouth to say something else.
"Seriah, you're a nice girl. I like having you around, and I keep my promises. These late-night questions have to stop, 'cause I'm not in the mood to answer. Just keep your cool and let the music flow you. We'll find your boy, and I'll get my money, and it'll all be fine. Don't question it; I've got it under control."

Perry gave a pleased smile and nodded. He took the chocolate and took out one eating it happily. He was pleased with his present he rarely got presents. It made him feel like he was doing a good job. He went to take the chocolates away and headed into the kitchen. "Do you have anything in particular you think you want?" He called from inside the kitchen. He wasn't sure what the man wanted if he had to guess he would but he'd rather not. Perhaps just something to drink he checked to see what they had.
