Not sure if you can call this new but hey, it's awesome, that's all that matters. As for me, I simply wanted to get something out there for everyone else. It's been boring, no doubt about that. Hopefully this will spark some new interest.

The numbers can only be speculated. As of right now they believe the numbers to be about one out of every five-hundred to a thousand people. And in some places, they cluster to the point that it is impossible to deny or ignore their existence among the normal population. These strange patterns of population might have people wondering if it were some slow spreading epidemic, but that isn't just the only thing that doesn't seem to make sense. Since when have super abilities left the realm of the imagined anyway? Have they always been there in the back ground? Only to manifest and spread with the new technologies of transport and communication?

Some people might just ask who and what are these variants to the human race? Where did they even come from? For many questions, science has no answer. They've managed to find gene sequences that people with powers have in common. They've also found out that the gene is dominant, if you have the gene, you will have some form of ability, subtle or not. You can pass it down as well. Of course here is another abnormality. It lies within the rate that the gene spontaneously forms in individuals with no relation to any other people with power traits. If you have it it This gene they found is a strange and barely understood. It is a mutation in the DNA strand, therefore those who have it are dubbed as mutants.

These mutants are for the most part feared, as man has the distinct trait to fear that which he does not understand. Along the natural course of things this fear must cycle through Isolation, hatred and destruction, among other things, before it can ever hope to see even a glimmer of acceptance as a thinking, feeling human. This is where we stand now, unfortunately. In this current time, being a mutant is possibly the worse thing you could end up as. There are often no physical mutations with it and thus little chance of any abnormality noticed from birth. Almost every one but for rare cases seem like normal children. The powers can develop at any age, most commonly the range is anywhere from early puberty to adulthood, when growth and hormones stabilize. A good majority of people choose to ignore their ability and live normally. They fear ostracization and the peoples hatred and violence turned on them. There is no law, after all, stating that killing a mutant is murder and there seems no shortage of organizations that exploit that fact as a means to control over the population.

But not all people are against mutants. Some see this drastic change as God's doing, this new model of human. They are unlike the government that would just as soon kill you for what dangers your powers 'could' do as they might see to throw you into labs, take you from your home and have you track and kill others of your kind. These pro-mutant people often serve as safe-houses and can offer a meal to anyone hitting the hard end of their ordeal. Then again, be careful who you trust. There are a lot of greed filled hearts just itching to use someone else's power to their own advantages. There are many gangs that welcome you or supposed justice groups of mutant thugs who would just as soon mug you as save you from a burning building.

Life is tough out there for mutants, but as you may have read, it isn't just the mundane population that has two faces. Even though they are so different, the two, they both are human after it all. They have their own ranges of morals, some seeming to lack even that, we all love, we hate, we grieve, and we fight to protect what we think is important or for some purpose bent towards out own greedy gain. No one is completely pure, and no one is completely corrupt. It's a delicate balance, but where do you fall?

Faction Info

There are many alignments any character can find themselves allied to, from being neutral in action towards the social and political changes around them, to being a thug on the street whose only concern is using their ability for their own gain. However, there are also major groups playing in this plot, working either openly or subtly to achieve their ambitions. Should you choose to side with them, here is more info regarding.

HERO: Formally known as the Heroic Enforcement Rescue Operates. HERO is a group that created by an energy-manipulative superhuman known as Salem Wolf, this is the major group of the world, often thought of as being pioneers of the superhuman race and the original group from which dozens of others model themselves after. They don't rely on costumes, preferring to rely on the humanity of themselves to align themselves to non-powered humans, but that doesn't mean other HERO-subsidiaries don't. This group is often thought of as good, even if others may only be neutral or on-again-off-again members.

TNT: Formally known as the Tactical Neutralization Team, TNT is a former Private Military Corporation, this PMC had been known as the leader of mercenaries for hire for various countries and cities throughout the globe until the big reveal of superhumans existing after a falling out between one of their high-ranking superhuman members. A group hating on HERO for years, their attempts to destroy the group have been at various ends of the spectrum. In the end, the group has all but been dissolved and their CEO supposedly killed, forcing those part of the group into hiding or redemption. It is rumored that TNT might be involved in kidnappings and murders of several High classed super humans, and they may be in contact with a pharmaceutical company known as Shuya International, which may or may not be performing experiments on mutants.

Those who are in this group are typically on the evil alignment, though there are some exceptions.

United States Government: They've always been watching, and always been trying to keep tabs on the various factions littered around the country and, more specifically, Empire City. Unfortunately, the groups are too varied and chaotic for them to get a handle on from afar. The US Government, having previously worked with HERO in the past, not new to superhumans by a long shot, have assembled a black ops team of superhumans designed to spy on the various groups and keep tabs on them. Their main purpose is to keep the cybernetically enhanced humans, unaltered humans, and the superhumans from ending in a civil war due to the events occurring. Despite frequent attempts to work with HERO again, the superhumans have declined and thus the Government is required to act on behalf of their citizens. They are a neutral group who hold no alliance to any organization currently in existence.

Other groups

The Darwin Knights are a group of people who utilize energy as their main power, believing Darwin's theory of evolution applies to superhumans and the natural energy that flows through the universe. They are typically neutral, but can be considered evil against those with "unnatural" powers like elemental abilities. They are typically the enemy to both Exitium and HERO.

Exitium This group, or rather gang, relies on chaos and destruction for fun and little other reason. Though they claim everything they do has a purpose, often it seems just for the sport. They are usually believed to be unlawful evil, though many members are coerced into being part of the team. Regardless of reasons, each member is often thought to be insanely powerful, raising the question of why they don't utilize that power. They have worked with TNT in the past, and are clear enemies of anyone in HERO.

Fingers delicately flipped through the pages of a good book, each displaying the romantic and dangerous lives of the characters within, any one of which could hold their own set of powers. Such was the world of a fantasy novel. For a while now, that has been her world outside of her fantasy books as well. A sigh escaped glossed lips and the young woman set the epic down of her lap. Her eyes glanced longingly at the cityscape before her, searching the scene beyond it for some disturbance that would require her attention as a member of HERO.

Other than a minor gang disturbance involving a kid who had a decent power over ice, there hadn't been any real issues of superhuman and public safety. A lot of issues could easily be dealt with by the standard police force. She could head back to Headquarters, but most of the team was working on investigating a very bizarre string of circumstances where a super or group of supers had suddenly lost control of their abilities, resulting in accidental injuries. She didn't want to end up running errands for what would probably end up being some sort of enlightened-only flu.

The woman, nicknamed Dove by many of her fanmily or followers, sat at the top of a shorter skyscraper, her feet dangling precariously over the precipice. She wasn't nervous. If she really fell, she could use her special ability to just 'fly' down to safety. In fact, being as un-entertained by her book as she was now, she decided now would be a good time to seek out a new roost to find trouble. There was going to be a 'Homo-Superior' Rights protest over down by city hall anyway soon enough. If there wasn't already some fuss going on, she'd be surprised. It was settled then. She'd head there.

Dropping off the side of the building, Dove felt her gut clench and raise until she stabilized her speed downward. Hair whipping upward, she slowed her speed by until she was a a dozen or so feet off the ground. She couldn't use her ability in the space apart from the buildings, there was nothing to grab onto and lift herself, because of this she had to stick at least somewhat close to the ground. A few people who had seen her falling yelled out angrily about her being a mutie-menace, but she ignored them and floated off over their heads. The protest was a several blocks off and would take a few minutes to get there. However, her job had other ideas.

"Hey, Tѐgan-chica, got a free hand?" Her Vox-responder began with a childish voice, prompting her to land and unhook it from her belt.

"Sure. Whatcha got for me?"

"Nothing too difficult, A flamer was 'born' earlier this morning and he's now having a freak-out out on 36th street, Throwing fireballs at anyone who tries to go near. Possibly a 5150; certified nutter." The young boy on the other size seemed annoyed by this. Dove didn't blame him. Flame types were always difficult to manage discreetly.

"So calm him down or bring him in? Can do." Dove was already heading back in the air, heading towards the direction of the disturbance.

"You got it. Just make sure he doesn't hurt anybody around him. Stretch is already there, but he's having a hard enough time just putting out the fires. The fire department has already been dispatched and it on their way. I'm right now trying to slow them down with a good old fashioned traffic jam, but... Anyway, just hurry."

"I'm going as fast as I can, Virus. I imagine the media is going to start another s**t-storm on us Enlightened on the evening news. ...You there... Alik!?"

Her answer never came as her informant seemed to already have closed his frequency. She frowned, her eyes pealed towards where 39th street would appear after several minutes of rushed 'flying'. That kid. He could never stick around long enough to say more than just info, could he? Ignoring pedestrian boundaries and shouted insults alike, Tѐgan flew over cars and cut over small building to shorten her path. Soon enough she could see some flame shooting up into the air two blocks over. There was smoke too, but not too much of of it, thanks to Stretch. It seemed this new Enlightened was a pretty powerful one...

Walking down the street ignoring all the people I passed, I noticed a lot of smoke coming from straight ahead. So that is why they are running towards me. I thought as I continued forward. As I got nearer to the fire I saw a kid, about 13, standing there and raging. He was the one who seemed to be the one starting all the fires. As I attempted to pass he, in his rage, threw a fireball in my direction. It got to about a foot away before I caused a wall of dirt to extinguish it. I continued on my way ignoring the insolent little b*****d as he was not used to his ability yet.
As he was about to turn the corner a man grabbed his shoulder.
"If you know what's good for you you will let go." I growled, stopping at the corner.
"I could use your help." he replied releasing me.
"How much are you willing to pay?" I asked turning to the tall man standing behind me.
"I can't pay you anything right now," he said, turning to put out another fire that started right next to him, "but I will buy you lunch if you do."
"Alright, what do you want me to help you with?" The man simply pointed at the kid and continued putting out the fire. "Okay, easy enough." I turned to the kid and caused a small rock to rise up behind him and strike him on the back of the head. I then proceeded to fill the air with dust, putting out the remaining fires.
'Thank you," the man said, after the dust had settled. I walked over to the kid and picked him up.

Not everyone accepts their powers when they appear. Some, when they find out of their ability try to hide it and any sign that they ever even thought about enlightened abilities. others, like it sounded this kid she had heard about, take to it badly. A combination of their of bad control and their unstable emotions proved for quite a show. However, how they felt now, often wasn't as they would feel later in life. Quite a few enlightened unfortunately committed suicide soon after being 'born'. For HERO it was always important to extend any hand they could to protect new enlightened.

The woman dubbed Tѐgan was in a hurry, She certainly wasn't as fast in the air as a car, but she managed to get around with ease. Hurdling around the last corner, she was surprised to see large clouds of dust swarming down on the remaining fires, putting them out easily. The fire starter was nowhere that she immediately saw. Finding Stretch, the tall man who could easily be mistaken for rubber when he used his stretching abilities, she landed, taking a few steps to re balance herself.

"Who?" The question was answer with a pointing finger and a shrug.

"I told him I'd buy him lunch. Useful, isn't he? Blocked a fireball like it was nothing. You should have seen it."

"Hope you invited me and I haven't eaten yet. Rushing over here made me hungry."

"Of course. That is, if you agree to call it a date~"

"..."

Looking over at the asian boy who was walking away, she took in his appearance. Rough, almost over grown hair, clothes that seemed to indicate a harsher lifestyle, and a gait that suggested that he didn't give a s**t about any of it. She smiled to herself. Maybe another gang's man? Still, she was glad he had got there when he had. On the ground in front of him was a boy, maybe middle school age, passed out. She could easily figure that this was the one that caused all the ruckus.

Immediately she frowned, on the alert as she saw the man bending to pick the kid up. Lifting her feet off the ground, she floated over to hover a few feet from the man as he picked the child up. She could tell he was at least alive.

"Here, let me. We're going to need to talk to him anyway and see that he is alright." She lifted the boy easily from his arms, using her ability. Laying the boy out flat on his back, she let him float up to about her waist level. A goosebump the size of her small fist showed on his scalp as she turned the boy's head. He'd be out for a little while.

"Thank you. Name's Dove, and my friend you met was Stretch. You did well. Do you have a name you would like us call you?"

I was slightly startled by the floating woman, though I didn't let it show, and watched silently as she she took the kid and examined him.
"It was nothing," I said as I turned to 'stretch' "can we go get my lunch now?" I added ignoring her question. When he nodded, I followed him to a nearby fast food restaurant and got myself a basic combo meal.
"You're pretty cheap to buy lunch for." 'Stretch' said at my choice.
I simply nodded and took the tray of food over to a table, where I sat down on the bench and put my legs across it, my feet hanging off the end. I ate my food slowly, taking several minuets to eat each bite. I drank some of my soda and then pulled out a bottle of coconut rum and added some of it to the cup. I loved the slight warming I felt as the concoction went down my throat, and the nice tingling feeling it sent up to my brain.

Looking at the young kid lain out before her, Dove wondered if she should take him to visit a healer friend of hers. A concussion would be bad news. Looking under the unconscious kid’s eyelids, she decided that nothing looked relatively damaged. She supposed if he wasn’t out of it by the time lunch was finished she’d take him to the healer.

At their table, she carefully slid the boy into the booth ahead of her, using the corner to prop him into a sitting position, his head against the window. As she let go of him with her telekinesis, the boy slumped forward and Dove had to steady him with her hands as she slid into her seat next to him and across from the two men.

Sipping her drink, she smiled wanly as Stretch playfully complained about her ordering the boy a big mac as well. She knew that with a paycheck from HERO, he was good for it. She herself had ordered a large fry and a shake, intending to dip the former into the latter. Stretch, ever the clown, mocked like he was going to steal a handful and she raised her hand to swat him away. It wasn't long until they’d both finished off their meals. As they waited for their guest to finish they began talking about unimportant, non-work related things. Dove was halfway through a review of a movie she’d seen when stretch shushed her, motioning to the still unconscious boy.

He was moving. Bit by bit the boy flexed his face as if he was fighting through some unpleasant dream. Gently, Dove slipped her hand into his and gave him a reassuring squeeze, trying to relax him. Glancing over at the earth manipulator smelling the strong scent of alcohol, she smiled. Reaching for the bottle, it easily snapped into her hand.

“Perfect. Mind if I use this? Thanks!”

She flashed him an innocent smile, knowing she was probably being annoying. Pulling the cap off, she waved the sickly sweet smelling liquid under the boy’s nose. Its effect was almost immediate. Wrinkling his nose, the kid’s head pulled back from the bottle. In a few short moments his eyes opened to slits, and a confused look took its place on his features.

“You disappoint me, Null.” A low voice purred over the speaker of her cell phone.

“Yeah. I know. Can you give it a rest already?” She was pissed. She hated this man and hated the exact speech she knew was coming next. It was the same “Null is a worthless letdown and wasn’t grateful for all they gave her.” Speech. Well, newsflash. All this man had ever given her since they met was one painful headache that never seemed to end. Or maybe that was the hangovers. Anyway, all he was good for was a good wad of ******** cash that fed both her and her many bad habits.

“No. It obviously hasn’t gotten through your stones little skull. Your job was to affirm that he had the gene, and wrap him up for us to take care of. If you’d even spent a lick of your time training like you were supposed to, instead of going out and getting high, you wouldn’t…”

The woman known only as Null held the phone away from her ear for a moment. She had a pissed off look on her face, knowing that even without her listening, he was going on about her pushing the fire elemental kid out of control and nearly burning the city block to a crisp. She has been supposed to reveal that he did indeed have powers, and then block them until he could be taken down.

Head pounding from her hangover, she ran her fingers through her vivid magenta hair and took a deep breath to steady herself. She didn’t feel like talking to this guy anymore, even if she was his lackey. The d**k could do the job himself next time. That is, if he’d ever leave his little safety bubble and head into the real world.

“I SAID I’d handle it. OK? Christ. I’m dealing with it now. With that she hung up her mobile. Takign a swig of her beer, she stalked off towards the McDonalds across the street, where her knocked out target had been taken. Ordering herself a chicken salad, she sat herself in a corner, and pretended to be minding her own business.

I was about to slide the rum bottle over to her when she took it. "you may have the rest of it." I said as I finished my lunch, noticing the woman walk in and attempt to look like she was minding her own business, which to anyone less aware she would, and then stood up. "thanks for lunch, but I have somewhere to go." I calmly put out, before walking out the front door. I decided the city was too noisy so I put my headphones in and started to listen to Dark Funeral. Walking along I saw a group of kids throwing rocks at a small kitten and laughing when it got hit by one and mewed. Instantly I made all the rocks they had thrown already fly back and pelt them till they ran off crying. I walked over to the kitten and picked it up, it wasn't hurt bad though it did look quite scrawny. I pulled out a small piece of a sandwich I had in one of the pockets of my backpack and gave it to the kitten, which immediately began to eat it.

Dove noticed the person walking into the restaurant, but not with any particular suspicion of why some random person might be walking into a public fast food join around lunchtime. No, she acknowledged this person merely as being present, and thought nothing of her intentions, the beer in the woman's hand or scowl on her face. Mostly, her attentions were on the boy who she was currently focused on waking up so that she could see if he was alright.

Heavy lids pulled black to reveal chocolate eyes as the kid dazedly took in her face. For a moment a shock ran through him as he realized that he didn't know where he was. The lights above were painfully bright and the air smelled of grease. His head hurt like something else. Seeing him in this state seemed to delight the silvery haired girl in front of him and he grimaced. It had been another woman who had attacked him, first 'forcing' his powers out by pissing him off and then by making him lose control.

"Hey! Glad you're awake, Sweetheart. You took a good knock. I betcha your hungry right? Here, we didn't forget ya." Dove spoke calmly, pushing his paper bag of food towards him.

Immediately the boy's gaze hardened when he glanced over at Stretch. The man who was taking him down was only just leaving, but catching sight of him didn't help either. His breath caught and Dove tried to console him by placing a hand on his shoulder. Attempting to stand up, the kid swiped her hand away, looking angry, but more than that, a bit scared. Dove put up her hands with a relaxed expression, moving out of his way so he could get out from behind the table.

"Settle, there. You aren't in any trouble. You should eat if you have the appetite..., please?"

What happened next happened too quickly. The boy, who had at first been seeming to calm and begin to sit down again, froze with a disturbed look on his face, what he had going through his head right then, Dove didn't know, and soon wouldn't have a chance to ask as the table, and any remaining food or alcohol began to combust with a sharp blast of dry heat. Startled, Dove reacted quickly and ripped the table from its bolts and flipped it over onto its face a ways away, attempting to put it out. Secondly, she grabbed herself and stretch, dragging the two of them in the opposite direction, away from the flames and away from the boy, whose flame was gathering around his fists and spreading out from his feet to try and climb the walls.

She hadn't seen the other woman get up, but as she readied herself to get into a take-down formation with Stretch, this street worn female with purple hair was approaching the boy, who was focusing on her as well. Dove, at first was concerned for the girl, shocked that she'd go so close to such a blatant danger. She stepped forwards and out of formation, stopping Stretch as she stepped forward and began shouting out. This concern lasted until she spotted the Glock raised up from the woman's hand. The concussive bang rattled her and she watched as the younger teen dropped to the floor like a rag. Unfazed, this woman stepped over him and walked towards the door, towards them. Oh, ********.

The purple haired murderess locked eyes with Dove then, shifting her gun to point in her direction. Dove lifted a thin arm as if to shield herself and pushed back with her mind to knock the gun out of her grip and at the same time knock the girl onto the ground. Nothing happened. She tried again and an audible squeak of fear escaped the lips of the HERO agent as she froze up in the panic of realizing her ability had failed her. Stretch, behind her tried to rush the woman, using his ability of rubbery contortion to throw her off, however the woman seemed to expect this and a second bullet rang out. The woman walked out.

In the spirit of minding ones own, business, Null went up to the counter and bought herself a hamburger, small drink and no fries. Waiting, she occasionally snuck glances back at the table where her prey slept when she wasn't too busy glaring daggers through the scrawny teen that stood behind the cash register. It was far too easy to make him squirm. And with her headache, she was enjoying that squirming as much as possible. They gave her food promptly and she walked over to sit a few tables away from the small band of supers.

She knew who two of them were, and had a vague idea of the third, though she'd never actually looked up intel on him. The kid, her target she knew, She's been stalking him all yesterday trying to make her ambush clean. It hadn't worked out as planned due to a misapplication of her own dodgy powers. The woman she recognized from TV. She was the face of superhuman relations in this city. Such a small woman but when under pressure she was a smooth talker. Her partner, the one who had arrived first, was the one she'd heard of and this last guy, a second telekine by the looks, was completely foreign to her. He soon enough left anyway the second he finished his food.

When the kid woke up it had gone interesting. He seemed to be agitated, and Null just knew with a good prod from her ability he would burst out in uncontrolled flames again. She needed to focus then, so it wasn't more than she could handle. There. Just as he was sitting down he felt it start up again. He recognized it and his eyes immediately snapped up to find hers. That surprised her. The kid was sharp. She moved to stand up as well as various things began to catch fire, resulting in one table being thrown halfway across the McD's.

To anyone else it looked like a lot of chaos, but she herself was calm and in control. Sliding her gun out of the holster on her hip, she raised it up and walked towards the kid. Before he could lash out, she pulled the trigger, nailing him once in the skull.

Next she looked over at what she considered her next biggest threat. The woman from the TV. She was a telekine for certain, and a decently powerful one. null narrowed her eyes, pointing her gun as she easily stopped the woman in her tracks. She relished that confused look on her face, and that realization that she was weak. The rubber man though, she didn't like it when he moved to lunge at her, his arms reaching out like distorted pythons. She adjusted her aim slightly and shot him in his right side shoulder, before backing away out the door before he could recover. Shoving her Glock back in it's holster she jogged towards her bike and kicked its stand up, intending to leave the scene quickly. She fumbled a moment for it's key.
