Let's start planning and calling dibs on contests! We can think of anything from official contests, where we provide prizes, or games to play in our thread. Think of the characters involved, who would be hosting it, what kind of games or contests they would enjoy, or the plot (which you can get any idea from what has been suggested so far)

Well the archery and dueling style contests did well last year ad I think people enjoyed being able to complete with their characters.
Maybe we could do some kind of fencing contest with simple dice rolls, high roll win, scoring a point for each bout. First to like five points wins. Make it almost like a tournament with winners moving on to face other opponents and the losers being put into a wildcard bracket for a second chance run. That is mainly because with dice its pure chance so some amount of second chance would be nice.
Trivia games seem to be fun, but with the internet those can often time be challenging to make interesting. However sense we are the main room we are also the central idea of the ball, so what about trivia based off the past balls? Ask questions about what happened in so-and-sos room, or what critical roll did this character play in the room/balls plot.
Thats all I have got right now, chime in and discuss.

The thing to keep in mind is that this room won't be like the High Adventure room where we had the room settings wise and the theme to allow for combatant type games. They may be fun, but we should think of games that would suit the Den of Iniquity. Things to consider are:
- inebriation (even though this should be subtle due to PG-13 restrictions) - gambling - sexiness (again, PG-13 restriction)
We have a challenging room because of the rating restriction, but I believe we are all creative enough to come up with some great ideas.

I'll turn him into a flea, a harmless, little flea, and then I'll put that flea in a box, and then I'll put that box inside of another box, and then I'll mail that box to myself, and when it arrives..I think we should start with the basic games TekTeks or Avatars?
Dice Games? Random Number?
Best Post?.... Worst post?
Riddles?
Art contests?
And then tailor them to our room's theme. It worked out well last year. ...I'll smash it with a hammer! It's brilliant, brilliant, brilliant, I tell you! Genius, I say!

I like best post/worst post because it encourages people to RP, though with the worst post I think it should be awarded comically rather than critically.
Random numbers are good to fall back on in a crisis of no one posting, but because it tends to encourage one-liners I really dislike using it when we could be posting better quality posts. If we combine it with a role-played action, like our room did in High Adventure with the archery, then it would be a great compromise. Just posting to roll is next to spam and I hate spam >.<
I also like Dice games, though we should be sure to test the odds of any games we plan to play to make sure they're not too easy or too hard smile

First post on certain pages contest with the rule added that we will skip people who spam in the contest and go to the next poster?

If the person is a spammer themselves then I would say yes, but there would be no reason to penalize someone who is posting regularly for the actions of someone else. We can mention vaguely that spamming will not help in this contest so that there is no attempt to use a mule to spam and then get the post with the main account, but I also don't want to worry about miscounting if we decide to skip posts because of spam.

I see what you are saying, Like I mean if it as just someone who wanted to revive the thread and bumped it then that is fine as long as they aren't a constant spammer

What we can do is keep a list of people spamming and have a rule saying that "spammers" will be exempt from being entered into contests within the thread. If we follow the list before announcing winners we should be fine.

Okay everyone, I have gotten a list of games and contests we can have in our room but I want to be clear on the distinction between the games and the contests:
The CONTESTS will be held OUTSIDE of the thread. They will be advertised on the front page with rules and prizes and the due date and will be submission based. Participants will have all weekend to work on these.
The CONTESTS will be an art contest, an avatar contest, and an avatar contest. We will also have "best post" awards given out at the end of the event following a theme of genre: comedy, romance and tragedy. We will have awards for the best written (grammatically and creatively), silliest (one that makes no sense or is so horribly wrong that it is funny), funniest (deliberately funny), tragic (something sad, but not gory or violent), and romantic (pg 13 limited.)
These contests will not be judged until Monday so all submissions must be in by Sunday night. They will all begin as soon as the thread opens.
Hikari and I will judge the contests, but we will need volunteers to take submissions. This will entail recieving entries through PM, keeping track of who sent what, and posting them in a thread that I will designate at a later time. You will also need to be online at least once a day the weekend of the ball, though as cohosts I would expect you to be online more than that, so that that no submissions are forgotten. You may consider using a mule so that you aren't receiving too many messages in your inbox.
If you have a particular contest you would like to volunteer for then let me know or else I will be assigning you because hikari and I cannot take all the submissions by ourselves. If you volunteer then you can help us judge!
The GAMES will be played in the thread in real time, meaning that the start and end of the games will depend on who is online. They will be run actively, meaning that you will not be able to multitask too heavily during their duration. Any guest playing the games will need prompt replies to questions and you will need to actively be checking that they are following the rules as they post.
For this reason, games in the thread will be for downtime when the plot does not need to be moved along or a) when there are not a lot of guests or b) when there are a lot of cohosts.
The reason for this is balance. If you are the only co host online and you only have a few guests then you can initiate a game to inspire more activity. This is especially beneficial when the plot is going to move along soon because we like there to be as many guests as possible present when the plot moves.
If there are a lot of cohosts it is also a good time for a game because while one person is running a game the rest can be greeting and engaging with guests. If it is just you in the room and a lot of guests do NOT start a game because you will not be able to micromanage guests needs, thread rules, and the game all at the same time. If you and your fellow cohost feel it is a good time for a game then make sure everyone knows that you are going to run it so that there are not two games going on at once.
Remember, the annual ball chat room is always open during the ball and you can ask questions or communicate with your fellow cohosts that way if they are online. Do not rely on PMs.
As for which GAMES we will have, I have decided on two gambling styled games that are based on poker and blackjack. The rules will be slightly modified and I will write them out later.
KEEP READING Because though this is long enough to be an announcement post it is not!
What I need from the rest of you is:
A list of who is volunteering to take submissions for what. Remember that you will need to be on once a day and committ to a certain time to take the last submissions on Sunday.
Suggestions for prizes. We will have pure gold for the room but I prefer to not give pure gold as a prize for contests. It is alright for games, but we need to set a limit and an allowance for the games so:
- suggestions for prizes fitting our room theme (indulgence/vanity) - suggestions on how to tier the contests (how many prizes per) - brainstorming on appropriate gold amounts for the games

Blood drinking contest! Yes, please! Can I have it? The thing is that unless someone's character is a vampire or a cannibal, drinking human blood should have an ew factor. Winning wouldn't be based on how much the character is able to consume, but how well they are to describe their character setting aside their revulsion to consume said blood. Suggested prizes: I'd suggest it being a blood-themed item, but it would cost 100k+ for a somewhat decent one and 1mil+ for a good one. Gaia likes to make the good blood-themed items rare.

I think we should have a roulette game, where the game master does a random number generator post, but before hand people choose what they think the next number would be (odd, even, 1,2,3,...) and then they can either bet gold, and it does jackpot style like that, or they can bet like weird items.
