There is a startling amount of guitar/bass players in this forum! What's your guys' favorite brand? I like Godins.

J & D Luthiers would easily be my first pick for both guitar and bass, followed by Washburn for guitars and if they're cheap, Ibanez for bass and guitars

As far as body style goes:

solid body over semiacoustic or acoustic
Gibson SG, Les Paul or single cutaway bodies.
Rosewood fretboards
Maple neck and body.

Black, dark wine red or purple for colours.
Wood stain or tigerstripe over flat colours if possible.
