Personality: Iwao is an aged swordsman with many years on his side. Once a eager young man who rushed into combat, his years of experience have calmed emotions and mind. Sturdy to the point of stubbornness, Iwao does things his way and not any other. Bold, relatively friendly, and generous with his time and patience, but don't get on his bad side.

Shi-Kai:
Release Phrase: "Show them the path to their destruction"
Release Appearance/Transformation: Releasing the Zanpakuto to its "true" form, doesn't appear to alter the blade in the physical sense. However it releases the seals in the blade that withhold Iwao's spiritual energy which his Zanpakuto normally snaps and seals within.
Abilities: [Passive]: The power of the earth resonates from the blade, granting Iwao a dynamic increase in spiritual energy as long as he remains in contact with the surface. Feeding him energy and strength, Iwao can appear absurdly powerful when touching base with the earth's surface. This power however is instantaneously when airborne. So even a jump will completely separate Iwao from the benefits of his Zanpakuto until he touches base with the ground once again.
Attack 1: Using either his fist or his blade, Iwao can bring the earth to shudder cause a powerful blast or spiritual energy and rock to surge in the direction of his choice. This like many of "airblade" or "sonic slashes" do not require a charge but tend to give themselves away with clear stances or large swings.
Attack 2: [Passive]: The energy feeding Iwao from being in contact with the planet allows him to move incredibly fast, running and speeds far beyond his normal capabilities. This is shown by his ability to match the shunpo of considerably faster captains, something he could not perform without this benefit.
Ban-Kai:
Ability: Activating Bankai summons the spirit of Michi into the world of the living and fuses his spirit with the body of Iwao making his stone like skin a reality as his body becomes resistance to damage. Acting like an armor over his entire body Iwao's stone body has several points of strength and that of weakness. Coating his forearms, skins, feet and hands, elbows and knees, a rocky coating stronger them armor protects Iwao from even the most dangerous of assaults. Nearly indestructible the armed sections of limbs can block Zanpakuto with ease, and even take direct kido strikes with little give. The only downside is the limited section of protection, though the body is strengthen overall by Bankai it cannot guard against weapons as the few armored sections can.
Attack 1: Channeling the metals of the earth into his blade, Iwao's Zanpakuto can extend and thicken to absurd lengths and widths, capable of lifting such a blade however requires the passive connection to the earth to feed his body with energy from the ground. Otherwise the blade's weight will exceeds his strength or fatigue his body quickly.
[Note]: Have Bankai armor active, or increasing the size of sword creates weight which results in the lose of the ability to perform Shunpo. Through a pure run's lose of speed is hardly noticeably.

Biography:
Iwao Katashi was an aggressive, self focused student that exceeded in combat but not much else, so taking the role as Division 11 captain seemed only natural. Becoming Captain by means of violence gave him the respect and creditably he thought he wanted, but the role as captain bored him, and soon he became frustrated with it. With no desire to watch over brats and children he resigned from the role, retiring from the Shinigami practice. This however didn't last long, as the drive to test his blade against new foes drove him to take up his title once more. By this time Kenkaku Zaraki was the Captain of the Division. Staring the man down with old stern eyes, Iwao considered putting the man's skills to the test. Reaching for his Zanpakuto the old captain's grip hesitated for but an instant, and he was forfeit before the fight ever began. To this day he has never giving an answer why he didn't fight, and why he choose to settle as the Lieutenant.
