User Image Theidore Jack Chadbourne, or Jack as the world knew him, had no idea what he had done in a previous life to be punished now. He was insane! It was the only logical explanation. Funny, he didn't feel insane, but how else could he explain what he had just seen?

It was a fight, fire and ice had flown through the air in all sorts of colours as they clashed into each other, the rain didn't seem to do anything to stop it.... wait, maybe he had just stumbled onto a show or something? But there had been no one else there.... the rain kept them away perhaps? He groaned, no, that really didn't make sense either.

Jack was mildly aware that someone was speaking to him, aware that their was the noise of emergency sirens roaring around him.... but he was in shock, he hadn't said anything yet, didn't know what to say. How did he explain what happened? How did he start to explain that when he had been noticed one of the guys had turned on him with a what could only be described as an evil laugh? Yeah... insane!

He vaguely recalled his arm being grabbed, of a burning sensation bubbling before spreading down his whole arm. He tried too look but it was covered... was there a hand print burnt into his flesh? He tried to move his fingers but they didn't seem to want to respond. Crap! What had he done to deserve this? There was nothing special about him, he might be born from a high standing family but Jack was just a normal man! He went to work, he followed the rules and didn't even go out and drink or socialise that often! He was plain and ordinary.... and insane? He groaned and let his head flop back onto the gurney.

The ambulance stopped, he was mildly aware of that, just as he was aware that the doors opened and he was being wheeled out. Jack tried to sit up, tried to get off even as the pain in his arm protested.... it really did sting, but he supposed that if he could feel it that was at least a good sign, right? "No...." His voice was hoarse as he tried to protest, tried to object, but his feeble attempts were ignored as a nurse -who obviously thought he simply had a fear of hospitals- started to stroke his brow and sooth him. It wasn't the hospital he feared.... it was the possibility that he was never going to leave the place. Did they let insane people leave?

Enki was going through his usual rounds in the emergency wing. He usually didn't work emergency, but he felt generous and volunteered to help when he heard they were short on staff tonight. Good thing, too. Tonight seemed rather busy. He was sure they'd need all the help they could get.

Finishing what he could do with one patient, Enki headed out of the curtained off area to see if he was needed elsewhere. That was when he saw someone being wheeled in through the doors on a gurney. Enki frowned and immediately rushed over to help. "Anything I can do to help? What's his condition?"

Upon seeing him come up, a nurse sighed a bit in relief. "Dr. Baesinger, good timing. The patient has burns all over his arm. The paramedics couldn't get him to respond, so we don't know what happened or what his name is."

Enki nodded, keeping up with the gurney rather well as it was pushed to it's destination. "Can you speak? Can you tell me your name?" Enki asked Jack. "I heard you got burns on your arm, how did that happen?"

As he waited to see if the man would reply, Enki looked at one of the nurses and told her to start an IV drip of morphine for Jack, to help relieve some of the pain he was in. He looked back at Jack. "We're going to help you, so you need to help us out, too, okay?"

Aside from the burns on his arm, Jack looked to be in otherwise fine condition. No mention of head trauma, no visible signs of other wounds and the like. Good, definitely good. That'd mean all they'd need to do here is clean and treat the wounds, then rebandage them. Depending on the severity, they might need to do skin grafts, too. Though, that didn't necessarily need to be done tonight, unless the damage was severe. Nothing too hard, he just needed to make sure the patient was comfortable throughout the whole process. The man certainly did look rather dazed, perhaps still in shock about the whole incident....

Syaoran-Puu
It's fine. x3 Hope mine is okay, too. ^^

The serious eyes of the doctor seemed to capture Jacks attention, and no matter how he tried he couldn't seem to pull away. There was something familiar almost about those eyes.... yes, it was official he was going insane. Not that he had any intention of saying that out loud, he didn't want to be locked up in some little white padded room wearing a strait jacket and wondering what the hell happened for him to go from sane to insane in a single afternoon.

Still, Jack found himself compelled to speak, to say something. He figured they had learnt his identity via his wallet, wasn't that what they always did in films and stuff? Apparently not. "Jack," He managed to croak out, in his head the automatic Lord Theidore Jack Chadbourne rang out, how he hated that name and title, he done nothing to deserve it, was probably why he took the name Jack for his own and worked in a primary school.

Eyes wide he looked around, trying to figure out where he was.... oh yes, the hospital. Eyes of steel grey landed on his fingernails and he almost winced... purple nail polish! No, it wasn't something Jack made a habit of, but he had let the kids in his class do it this afternoon during their free play hour. He had always had a soft spot for kids, right now he didn't think that was a good thing. A red blush rose to his cheeks and he tried to hide his nails in fists even as he let a nurse put in an IV and more people looked at him. Slowly he looked to his 'broken arm', he had started referring to it as broken in his mind, maybe it was, maybe it wasn't, he had no idea.... all he did know was that it didn't seem to want to do as it was told right now. Did it have a hand shape burn hidden within the extended burn? He wanted to know, wanted to know if he was truly insane. "I don't know.... what happened." He croaked. The lie was feeble, but was all he could muster in his hazy state.

Ohhhhhh! Suddenly he felt a little lightheaded. The drugs?

Enki almost seemed to smile when the man replied. Good, he was speaking. Always a plus. So the man's name was Jack, and he didn't know what happened, not the first time he'd heard that story. More often than not, they simply didn't want to admit what happened... but he supposed he'd give the man the benefit of the doubt. For now. "Okay, Jack. I'm going to take off the bandages on your arm so I can take a look at the burns myself. It might hurt a bit," he warned him, going over to the side with the damaged arm.

As he started the process of removing the bandages, he spotted the purple fingernail polish. Heh, that was pretty cute on him. Wait, what was he thinking? He needed to keep professional. Though... he supposed thinking it didn't hurt.

"Is it just your arm that's hurt?" Enki asked him, wanting to know for sure. While he waited for an answer, he finished taking off the bandages and set them in the trash. The doctor went back up to Jack's side, examining the arm. Well, he could tell it wasn't a chemical burn, for sure. So this was done by fire... Why only his arm, though? It looked rather bad, too.

Placing one of his hands loosely in Jack's hand, Enki asked, "I want you to squeeze my hand. Can you do that for me?" He needed to see the extent of the damage, if the arm was movable or not.
Syaoran-Puu
It's fine. x3 also, I'd like to know how bad the burns are, and if there really is a hand shaped burn there. XD

Jack nodded, a little absentmindedly since the drugs were kicking in rather nicely now. Sure enough he winced a few times, a sharp intake of air creating a 'hissing' noise between his clenched teeth. Would it ever stop hurting?

He nodded at the question about his arms, at least until something came to mind. "My fingers.... feel numb." He admitted, it was as if he had been sat on his arm for too long and was now left with a severe case of pins and needles. He didn't resist as the doctor went about his work, didn't comment or distract the guy in any way. Even as a thousand questions started to spin around his mind. Would he be able to use his arm again? Would he actually be able to look like the old him? Or would he have a hideous scar on his arm forever? It was enough to make him want to whimper. Want to cry. Jack was proud that he managed to do neither.

Torn from his thoughts and back to reality as the doctor requested something of him he did his bed to squeeze. Everything still felt numb but there was some movement... would probably be fine with some extensive physio, though he might not ever get all of his strength back. Perhaps Jack should be thankful that his writing hand was still whole.

"Can you... fix it?" He managed to say, hope a terrible thing to have but something he needed so desperately.

Kuromaus
You don't need my permission to make them as severe as you want or to have the burns a combination of 1st and 2nd.... if you say something I will react to it *nodnod* Only saying this for future reference. Let's say YES there is a hand print at the worst part of the burn, but you might miss it if you didn't know what to look for. And lets go with a combination of 1st and 2nd degree burns. Which will mean some nerve damage to his arm.

Enki frowned a bit as Jack wasn't able to fully move his hand. He'd said they felt numb, and he didn't have full movement, which meant... likely nerve damage. "Is it just your fingers that are numb?" he asked the man, looking over the damage to the arm once more. From what he saw, there were only 1st and 2nd degree burns. Which was, in a way, good.

"Yes, we will do everything we can," he told Jack with a smile. Yes, it was nothing a little treatment and time couldn't fix. Though he felt bad for the man, he was also rather lucky it wasn't any worse. Any worse and it would've been irreversible. It would've been a shame to see something like that to happen to someone so... cute. Enki pushed those thoughts away. For now, he just needed to focus on the patient.

Looking behind him, Enki grabbed a nurse and told her to start cleaning the burns on Jack's arm. As she got to that, the doctor made a quick call to the ICU and ensure a room for Jack. Enki finished the phone call and went back up to Jack. "After we get your arm cleaned up and rebandaged, we're going to move you to the ICU. We can do skin grafts for the severe areas, if you want, but the rest should be fine with healing on it's own," Enki said, when a thought came to him. "Have you had your tetanus shot recently?"

Jack blinked, his world seeming a little hazy and fuzzy. The drugs? He didn't know any more, all he really knew was that he was insane, didn't want to be here anymore, and that he rather liked blond hair.... wait, he what? Surprise filtered across his face just as found himself hearing the words fingers and numb come out of the doctor's mouth. He hadn't heard the question but nodded, hoping that it was the right answer. Perhaps the doctor had just asked for confirmation that his fingers felt numb? They sure did.

Jack looked down at his hand, a blush -although slight- flooded to his cheeks as he looked at the purple again, purple wrapped slightly around milky white flesh. No harsh callouses from working out door, but not soft and dainty either, a true working mans hands. Jack realised he liked the doctors hand. Realised he was staring too as he looked back up a little dazed.

Intensive Care? Skin grafts? He panicked a little, his heart rate spiking as he tried to shift on the bed. To what purpose even Jack didn't know, but that didn't stop him. He didn't want to be here.

Wait... Tetanus? He shook his head wildly, grey eyes looking up in to the stern face of the doctor, he had distinguished features that Jack took in for the first time. Chiselled chin, bold lines that weren't harsh yet distinctively not delicate either, long swan like neck....

He whimpered, burying his face into his good hand as he held back the tears. "I'm insane... aren't I?" He managed to say, so low that only the good doctor who was stood next to him could hear.

Rather surprised to see Jack react the way he did, Enki frowned a bit. Why would he react like that? Why would he think he was insane? All he did was ask if he'd had a tetanus shot recently.... "Why would you think that? Burns are rather susceptible to tetanus, so if you haven't had a shot recently, it'd be better to give you one now before infection has a chance to settle in."

Was there something more to this? He had to know. Enki shooed everyone out of the area and closed the curtains. He went back up to Jack and asked very bluntly, "Is there something you're not telling me? Whatever it is, you can trust me with it."

Jack looked over at the doctor then, eyes wide, almost hopeful. At least until he realised the guy hadn't said he wasn't insane, simply that he was trying to figure out Jacks logic. He felt as if he was slipping deeper and deeper into the pillows as he lay back down and closed his eyes.

All around him he heard footsteps getting more and more distant, before a strong and sturdy set approached him again. Jack didn't have to look to see who they belonged to, but he did all the same. Sure enough, the doctor, who in truth would have drawn his eyes outside of this place, was standing over him.

You can trust me. Jack wasn't sure that was right. Was pretty sure he couldn't trust this with anyone. But what if he really was insane? What if he needed help? Or worst... what is this was the truth? What is Jack had accidently stumbled into some new weapon testing and simply got in the way? Probably too much to believe, but after a moment Jack decided to simply accept his fate.

With a rather loud gulp he cleared his throat and looked away from the doctor, he didn't want to look into those intelligent eyes and see the judgement being passed. Insanity here I come.... might as well own it. He mused before finally opening his mouth. "Two men... I watched two men fighting. Fire and Ice everywhere, danced in the air with deadly intent." He was sure he was blushing by the time his next words slipped out. "It was like....magic." That was just silly, there was no such thing as magic, everyone knew that. He didn't finish though. "I swear.... one of them grabbed me, and all I remember was pain, and heat as it shot through my arm." His eyes were closed now, the memories scorching his mind. Nothing about his voice or body language said he was lying, but then again if you were insane you believed your own delusions didn't you?

Slowly Jack turned his head to look sheepishly at the doctor. "I'm insane... aren't I?" His words were low, no more than a whisper.

Enki listened as Jack relayed what had really happened to him and his arm. Now things made more sense than before. It definitely seemed like the man was telling the truth, or at least what he believed to be the truth. And it explained why Jack thought he was insane. Most people would in that sort of situation.

From what it sounded like... and given the location, he had a guess as to who Jack saw fighting. "No, you're not insane. Though, I can see why you would think as such..... Let me guess.... One of them had wavy brown hair, and one green eye. The other was covered by an eye patch. The other one... probably had waist-length red hair, blue eyes, some freckles on his cheeks," Enki said simply. Not in a condescending way, no, but he was actually taking a guess from what Jack had described. "If it is those two, then... Well, those two tend to fight all the time. They're really the only people I can think of based on what you said you saw. You're lucky, though. I'm surprised they didn't kill you for seeing what you did."

Jack listened for a moment, simply listened and watched the doctor before groaning and burying his face in his good hand again. "I'm imagining things still..... god, I really am insane!" After all, why would the doctor know what the men had looked like? How could he? Was he really a cop? Maybe he had died and this was a new world of hell for him to live in? Maybe he was just having an episode and would wake up in a padded cell already and no idea how long he had been there or how to get out..... GAH!!!

Quickly things started to change, Jack started to hyperventilate, his heart rate rising through the roof.

"Is... this.... a.... test?" Each word was separated by a sharp intake of breath as Jack tried to control himself. Was it some candid camera show? Was he about to get told it was all a practical joke?

And of course now Jack was freaking out. Enki placed a hand on the man's chest and replied to him, "No, you're not, and no, it isn't. It's just... coincidence. That's all. They happen to be... acquaintances of mine."

The doctor smiled at him. "There's no need to panic, just relax and take in deep breaths. I can give you a small dose of a benzodiazepine to help you calm down if you'd like?" Before waiting for an answer, Enki went to find it and take out the appropriate dose. He definitely needed it. He couldn't really blame him, this wasn't a situation you'd deal with normally. Seems more like the type of scene you'd fine in a movie, too coincidental.... But coincidences like this did happen, just not all that often or about something of this magnitude. "How about first we get you treated and recovering, then perhaps I could explain more about this. If you really want me to. Of course, you could just forget how this happened and be on your merry way, as well."

Coincident? Acquaintances? For the first time Jack took the doctor in, really took him in, as if he truly seeing him for the first time. Strong features, appeared young but there was a knowledge and age in his dark eyes that spoke of things Jack couldn't start to understand. Blond hair, though when he looked closer he could see a few other colours weaved within it, reminding him strangely of spun gold. It was a warm and welcoming colour, and Jack suddenly felt the impulse to run his fingers through it and discover if it was as soft as it looked.

Grey eyes travelled down the long swan like neck to broad strong shoulders, lean body, and although it was hidden Jack had a feeling it was well toned and looked after. The kind of body you just wanted to lick and bite and caress all over. He blushed and looked away instantly. What was he thinking? This man had just admitted to knowing the men who had attacked him.... and if that wasn't true then he was either mocking Jack or Jack really was hallucinating this whole situation. There was nothing that could ever form between them, no matter how 'bitable' the guys body might look they were in different leagues. Jack was a nobody, and the good doctor.... well, he was a Doctor and a powerful man who probably wouldn't even give the likes of Jack a second look had he not just spouted some confession about being insane.

Then the guy said something he didn't expect. The guy was offering to explain? Seriously? Surely he should be encouraging the idea that Jack was insane to protect whatever he had accidently witnessed? Wasn't that what always happened in the movies? Make it so the guy looked so insane no one believed him...? Yet the offer was tempting, and not just because he wanted to know, but because the idea of spending a little time with his good doctor outside of the current professional capacity appealed to Jack more than he wanted to admit, even to himself.

"Ok." He eventually said, his voice shaky. "I'll let you explain. After I've been treated." He repeated the conditions the guy had said. Then something occurred to him, he didn't even know the doctors name. His eyes darted to the name badge. Crap! It was a name he wasn't sure how to pronounce but he tried to all the same, muster as much confidence as he could into each word. "Thank you doctor BaySinger."

Kuromaus
Yes I know his name is Dr. Baesinger but I figured I would write it how Jack said it =D

Seeing that Jack seemed to calming down on his own, Enki couldn't help but wonder if he should give him the meds after all.... Heh, up close like this, the man looked rather cute. His skin looked rather soft, as did his hair. He looked pretty nicely dressed, too. Well, at least he was before part of the outfit had gotten burned.. along with the man's arm. And that purple nail polish....

Enki smiled at Jack's reply, it snapping him out of his thoughts. "I guess it's settled then," he mused. Yet, the man's pronunciation of his name was rather amusing. Enki chuckled a bit and shook his head. "Baesinger. Enki Baesinger."

The doctor picked up Jack's medical charts and noted a few things on it, then put it back. He put up the syringe of medication he'd taken out earlier, emptying the liquid down the sink. "I put you down for a tetanus shot, so you'll be getting one of those after you've been moved to the ICU. There's really nothing else to do at the moment except to wait for the burns to begin healing on their own. Tomorrow I can do a skin graft for the particularly bad areas, if you really want me to. It's not necessary, but it would help you recover faster and reduce possible scarring."

Another blush consumed his cheeks as he was corrected in the pronunciation of the guys name. Enki Baesinger? Not exactly a common name, it didn't even sound as if it was local... where was he from? So many questions and currently no guts to ask them. Still, he was surprised by the strange calm that seemed to have settled over him.

Automatically at the introduction he gave his own name, only mildly aware of how husky his voice suddenly sounded to his own ears. "Jack. Theidore Jack Chabourne." If anyone had asked, he would claim that he was simply trying to make sure they could find his medical details with ease, after all he might go by Jack but his first name was Theidore... a pompous name that Jack despised, one filled with too many expectations that he could never fulfil. He could never have been good enough.

With a gulp he nodded, he really didn't want to be in this place longer than needed but the idea of more scarring than needed and the possibility of catching tetanus held his tongue. Running his fingers through his long hair he simply nodded for a moment before finally saying, "Thank you doctor." What more was there to say? Nothing. Jack wasn't the best conversationalist on a good day, add in the day he was having and it was a miracle he was getting more than monosyllabic words out.

Kuromaus
We can do a time skip for a day or three if you want? Have it where Jack is getting bandaged after a skin graft or something? Up to you. =D I don't mind either way.
