 Madeline was born daughter to Poseidon, God of the Seas, and Amphitrite. She grew up never knowing what resided above the surface, her father forbidding her from even leaving the palace walls. On her 16th birthday, after a lavish celebration, she took her things in a small bag and set out. However, a horrible hurricane started up and Madeline found herself unable to fight the forces of the incredible waves. She got knocked into a rock and bleeding from the head, she made it almost a mile from shore before passing out and getting washed up with the tide. Tobias Hart was jogging along the beach just after sunrise, his dark golden topaz eyes scanning the beach as he moved. He wore nothing but a pair of black sweatpants that stopped just above his ankles and a light tan tee shirt. He blinked, pausing as he saw something rippling in the water. He waded in, not caring if the sweatpants got wet or not. Once the water reached just above his knees he found the unconscious girl. There was a cut just above her left eye that went nearly to her hairline. He frowned slightly, jerking off the tee shirt and ripping off the sleeve before ripping a longer strip from the abdomen of the shirt to act as a bandage. He tugged her unconscious body carefully until she wasn't in danger of drowning before he laid the sleeve, folding it over itself to cover the cut before tying it with the longer strip of his shirt before he jerked off the other sleeve and slid the shirt back on, basically making the former tee shirt into a ragged vest. "C'mon... wake up," he said quietly, shaking her slightly though he supported her head and shoulders in his own arms where he sat several feet from where the surf broke behind him.

Madeline coughed slightly, spitting up a bit of water as she came to. It wasn't that she had been choking on it, but the water just tasted awful. She moaned lightly, unable to open her eyes for a moment because of how much her head throbbed. She let something weird. She wasn't floating in the water and she wasn't laying in the sand either. The mermaid lifted a hand and felt around. When it came in contact with skin that wast her own her eyes shot open and she jerked away, creating space between herself and the person. Suddenly the rush of pan came flooding back and she latched her head feeling the gash. "I... Uhh... Thanks I guess..." she said wincing. She felt lightheaded, too much so to move or think rationally.

Tobias smiled faintly. "Don't worry about it; fortunately where your cut is.... you won't have to have your head shaved to get it bandaged," he said wryly, amused. He knew his tone would make it clear he had experience with what he spoke of. "I'd be careful about moving to quickly. It's possible you have a concussion from whatever did that to your head," he said thoughtfully, his gaze flicking slightly over her silvery blond hair though his gaze went no lower than her shoulders. He found her eyes interesting in their color, though he couldn't quite tell if they were obsidian or dark midnight blue.

Madeline nodded her head, grabbing her hair and pulling it in front of her to wring the salt water from. "Probably, that storm was absolutely insane. I got thrown into some rocks... I think." The details of last night weren't exactly crystal clear to her. She then found herself looking over her savior, but when her eyes hit the water line, her jaw nearly dropped open. He had legs... This was a human.... Madeline looked around trying not to show how frightened she was. But then she remembered something, "Damn..." she cursed under her breath, "I really appreciate you doing this for me. I um.... If you save a mermaid, then you get a free wish. I can't bring back the dead, control true love, or give you more wishes... Standard genie stuff... Only you know, I have a fish tail." Madeline lifted her silver blue apedenage out of the surf, the scales shimmering softly in the light.

Tobias tilted his head thoughtfully. "And if I wanted to be one as well?" he said with amusement. He was only half joking; since his father had died, his mother seemed focused either on whiskey or on the guy she'd recently met that was far from friendly. He shifted slightly, the ragged vest shifting to show an ugly bruise that went from just to the right of his sternum to his arm pit. It also went down to his upper abdomen and went as high as his collarbone. It had been caused by the 'boyfriend' when Tobias had stopped him from attempting to break into his mother's bedroom. The man had broken a kendo stick across his ribs after hitting him several times with it.

Madeline looked at the man with a confused expression, "I suppose that is possible.... No ones ever asked for such a thing before." She set her tail back down and looked out at the ocean. If he became a merman he'd surely want to go to their civilization. That would mean shed have to go home and her father would shut her up again... probably tighter security than ever before. "Are you sure that's what you want? I don't know if the King Poseidon would approve of an outsider. We aren't exactly supposed to have contact with humans."

Tobias cocked his head thoughtfully, thinking as he shifted, not noticing the vest falling off of one arm and revealing the bruise fully. He inhaled sharply as he leaned back accidentally against a sea urchin, fortunately not getting too badly pricked. "Honestly, it isn't like I have anything else to do... my mother either drinks or she's dealing with her new 'boyfriend'... and the guy isn't one you want to run into anywhere near a bar or bed, frankly," he said, inhaling in short breaths as his side still ached; for all he knew, he could have cracked ribs. "Poseidon... as in the Greek god of the seas?" he said when a square whiskey bottle hit the rocks behind them as a drunken male yell followed. "Get yer a** up here, boy!! Ya need to actually do somethin'!!" he bellowed; the guy had a black shirt and pants on as well as a shaved head and tattoos on his arms and head as he stood on a walkway near the roof. "You have to get away... he isn't the pleasant kind of guy at all.. there's a tunnel into a hidden cave about ten feet offshore in about fifteen feet of water; there's a bright blue growth of coral over the tunnel and it's about fifteen feet with a slight upward incline... I'll meet you a little later," he warned Madeline quickly as he stood quickly, the vest falling off his shoulders this time and leaving his muscular torso bared, showing several old scars and the ugly bruising on his side.

Madeline winced just looking at all the scars on his body. why hadn't he gotten help... Clearly this man was still an evident threat. When the bottle shattered she ducked but the boy stood. "there is no way you're going and getting yourself killed." Madeline heaved her body and pushed up off her tail, grabbing onto his shoulders and pulling him down into the surf. She quick slid a silver chain around his neck and watched the gills form. Her tail thrashed as she dragged him into deeper water, waiting for the magic to kick in. "You can breath now! Come on, swim!" Once the two of them reached the safety of the cave Madeline came to a stop, catching her breath. "You okay?" she asked making sure he was fairing okay, "Don't tell dad I have that necklace... He doesn't approve of us saving drowning fisherman, but I figured since I ran away I couldn't care less about his rules."

Tobias jerked when she slid the necklace around his neck before he felt an itching tingling on the sides and back of his neck before they'd submerged. "Wait...what?" he said before realizing his voice was clearly audible underwater. He didn't say much after that until they'd almost reached the fairly spacious cavern."I'm okay for now. I didn't expect that at all," he said wryly. The pool they were in at the moment took up a little less than a third of the floor area, though it looked fairly inviting anyway with the few tidal pools scattered over the floor and a few natural ledges on the walls. One had a few small trinkets from nearby shipwrecks along with a couple of thick candles. A few cracks let in sunlight so it wasn't dark, but they were too narrow for anything but thin vines to creep through.

"Yeah well I didn't really want you to be left to face that freak alone. I can deal with him for you later... I just didn't want to do it then while I was in pain sight." She lifted herself up and sat on the edge of the pool looking around, "Quite the place you have here... Do you dive for wrecks often? That can be really dangerous... The pressure and all considering your human." Madeline looked around and played with her hair, twirling it in her fingers. "So that wish... It's your only one. Are you sure it's what you want?"

Tobias shrugged. "I'm used to dealing with him... though I have an idea for handling him," he said with a half smile. He tilted his head thoughtfully as she asked about his wreck diving. "The deepest I've gone was a little over sixty feet deep and the ones I've gone to are fairly shallow, making it easier to surface afterwards," he said with amusement. He jerked when he heard a rumbling in the distance that made him think of thunder, his gaze snapping upwards as dust rained down from a few of the cracks. That isn't good, he thought. Hopefully there isn't an earthquake... though if the stories are true, then it might be a sign her father, if it's that Poseidon.... that he knows she's missing, he thought. He noticed an odd ripple of light on the wall behind Madeline; it was a deep neon green, which he found odd. "Now that I think about it, I told you my name... but you never mentioned yours," he said thoughtfully. He thought about his wish, tilting his head thoughtfully. There was another rumbling sound, this one louder, as if there were a cave-in in another cave nearby. He frowned slightly, noticing something odd in the sound; it had sounded almost metallic to him, but he couldn't be certain. He noticed a shift in the light that made his eyes widen. Instincts he wasn't aware of kicked in suddenly as he rolled to the side, narrowly evading what looked like a large two inch diameter octopus tentacle that broke through the wall of the cave behind him, letting in a larger spill of the odd deep neon green light as it slammed to the floor of the cave, narrowly missing him. "I have a really bad feeling about this," he muttered as the tentacle flicked back into the hole, swatting him in a very sensitive place as it did. He inhaled sharply, cupping himself as he twisted, rolling into the water. He heard another cracking before he saw another tentacle whip over where he'd just been. He exhaled a groan as he heard it slam into the wall of the cave, the abalone shells and trinkets he'd gathered either shattering or scattering over the floor as the natural shelves they were on were crushed. He quickly pushed off the side of the tunnel, shooting across and surfacing as he caught Madeline's wrist and pulled her under. "If that thing is what I think it is... then my wish may be what saves lives... especially if that thing gets free," he said quickly; he'd seen reflections as if of dogs' eyes in the odd neon green light and thought he'd seen something else, but couldn't be sure what it was. It looked almost... human, but something was off about it, he thought. He couldn't put his finger on what bothered him about it and the fact he'd caught a bare glimpse of it didn't help at all.

Madeline looked around frightened. She'd never had to face off with a monster before in her life. But there was something... Exhilarating about it. She went back up the the surface, manipulating the water and catching the tentacle in it before closing her open hands into tit fists. The water instantly solidified and the appendage was frozen temporarily. He repeated the process, freezing two more to the walls. Madeline then gripped Tobias's hand and darted down underwater, pulling him along as fast as she could. "Make your wish already... Your far too heavy for me to drag around all the time." Her tail thrashed as quickly as it could when she heard the rumbling again, the cave collapsing on top of whatever had been held inside. Suddenly a thought crossed her mind, "Wait hang on...." She let go of his wrist and turned back towards the tunnel. She opened her hands again and strained her body in attempt to focus. Then suddenly the water all around the rocks froze, an iceberg in the middle of the warm water. Madeline had never done a freeze that large before and she could feel it taking a toll on her body. Even if the ice would deter the monster, it would be deterring her as well.
