A large room with three rows of pillars, going all the way up to the twelve foot ceiling, meant to test maneuvering with the sparring session. The beams at the top also run three separate layers, meant for being able to test balance, while on the go.

It was quiet. The time was early morning in Soul Society and a session of meditation seemed to be in order for the Fuka-taicho of the Second Squad. Katai's black Shihakusho was untucked from his obi. The black garment folded neatly beside him as he sat cross-legged in the middle of the deserted room. No one was up at this early hour. Or so he had been led to believe during his quiet stroll here.

His palms were upturned and laid across them was the sheath of his Zanpakutō, Shinseki. This was no mere meditation session, every morning Katai would regularly commune with Shinseki. It was more of a pleasure to honor such simple conversation within the quaint world that Shinseki inhabited than a chore he chose to do in order to gain power. Power was relative. He was naturally stronger than a child in terms of the material. But a child was naturally stronger than him with the gift of innocence. He was no better than a single droplet of water into a vast ocean and the child no more important than the next breath of air into his own lungs. Everyone had place and purpose. Everyone was subject to change and no one was absolute. Not even himself.

"Good you've learned well m'boy..hmmm"
The raspy hoarse voice of Shinseki broke through the gentle autumn rustle of leaves against drying bark. Winter's n** biting at unshod feet as they sat on the deck of a weathered Temple. Buddhist..or possibly Shinto Shrine dedicated to long forgotten Gods and Ancestors. Katai couldn't tell. He had never inquired before, simply because he felt no need to. "Your move Kataikun." The faceless man spoke tipping his bamboo hat to the black-haired samurai. His tone was amicable and friendly. Somewhat endearing even. Humbling a simple man like Katai with a game of Shogi.

Heading down to the training room, she could feel the reiatsu of her second in command, as he remained in a single spot. Feeling that he may be training with his zanpakutou, she had decided to remain quiet, as she knew that she didn't have to worry about concealing her reiatsu. With it in a state of constant suppression, it was impossible to tell that she was around, unless she made herself known. Her reiatsu problem would often make the new recruits second guess her power, unable to feel the power that welled up inside of her.

Slowly sliding the door open, the tips of her fingers peeked out from the corner of the door. With a bow, she then entered into the training room with quiet footsteps. Seeing that he was playing a game, she felt the need to gain insight to what he was doing in this game. As she stepped closer, she held her long locks of hair back, so that she may keep from bother him, making her way quietly over his shoulder.

"Sharpening your mind, I see," she finally announced, smiling to, Katai.

Standing upright, she placed her hands behind her back, giving a bit of a playful grin. With her chin tucked into her collar, she wanted to show her admiration toward his efforts. She liked how he didn't seem to waste time, even when left alone.

Just as Katai was making his move a familiar voice caught is ears. Though it didn't stop him from sliding his piece forward, Katai's lips curled from their neutral appearance to a gentle smile. Ah, Taichousama, Good morning." He said in greeting in his gentle tone of voice. The game of Shogi would continue, although with more idle conversation. The black and white pieces that looked like little pebbles were not disturbed by three rather than two. It was all fine.

"A sword is only as sharp as it's Master. " He replied to her, the smile never leaving his lips as he awaited Shinseki's move. The faceless man gave a ponderous groan. As if not expecting that one slide of the shogi piece forward. But of course this was all a facade, feigning distress. As he liked to do in order to make Katai slip up in these friendly games. "Ahh, The Captain shows up and Katai grows all the more smarter. I think I see your angle Kataikun..kekeke!" Shinseki's voice was raspy and taunting. No more than usual, it was all in his personality. Soon enough however the black Shogi piece belonging to Shinseki moved across the board and it was Katai's turn again.

Kawashii, looked over the board, concerned about the predicament that it looked like, Shinseki, had him in. Not sure how he would take it, if she had tried to help, she figured he would learn on his own. Games were about that purpose anyway. Practical learning, in fun form.

"Such the flatterer, Shin-Sama," she said, affectionately. "O-Ruoanashingu, would like you."

Closing her eyes for a brief moment, O-Ruoanashingu, appeared in a wisp, forming from the sword to her left. A blonde with a deep tan formed in a powder blue tulip shaped dress, with eyes of the same color. The four angelic wings on her back were pure white, making her look like an angel. As she gave a bow, she looked around the room, thinking that she was going to be challenged again.

"What level are we going for today," she asked, smiling to the though of stretching her wings.

Shinseki turned his head to Kawashii and gave a nod, tipping the bamboo hat on his head with his right index finger and thumb."I'm far too old to be so humbling as Kataikun here, th'boy barely can make a Shogi move!" All in good fun, another jest at Katai's expense. Though it was far from true. Katai only took his time as he slid the white piece across another tile. Taking one of Shinseki's in the process. A simple move into the same square had ensured Katai would capture the silver under Shinseki's command. He did enjoy using his Bishops. But that might be his downfall.

"I am glad Shinsekisama and yourself get along so well Zenryokusama." Katai nodded as he watched as Shinseki put his hand on his own chin, as if pondering about the recent loss to his line of silvers. A classic defense that has persevered for years. Toss all of your Silvers in front and hope the enemy will go through the middle. Opening up for multiple passes from Knights and Bishops. Ohayoo, O-Ruanashingusan" Katai spoke to the Turtle Dove spirit in greeting.

With a grin, Kawashii, placed her hand over her face, trying to hide the fact that she was having an enjoyable moment at the expense of her second. She would dare show this side of herself to the lower seats, knowing that they were being harsh on each other. It was different with Zanpakutou though. They knew their wielder well enough to poke fun without hitting vital sensitive areas. That was if they felt that it was necessary.

"Now now, Shinseki-Kun, you shouldn't poke fun at flaws," she lectured in a light manner. "You should assist them in being better in the areas that they are lacking."

O-Ruoanashingu, took to the scene almost directly after her words were uttered, realizing that she was brought to converse with the others. moving to the opposite side of the board, from, Kawashii, watching the match of wits, with man vs weapon.

"Katai-Kun, you seem to in a bit of a pickle here," the blonde dark skinned figure admitted to him. "I would opt. to conceding, and coming to play with us."

"Play with you? Hmm, what game shall I play with you two?" Katai asked as he tried to decide a better move than his current array of options. While the spirit and his better had been conversing, Shinseki had taken Katai's most useful piece, the bishop! How unsettling. The swordsman was greatly perterbed by this action and his courses of retaliation were narrow because his silvers were not in their proper positions to put up a worthy defense without sacrificing them in the long run. Shinseki was correct, he had learned much without any real tangible teaching. But he had yet to learn it all.

"Eheh, Kataikun can use a break from the lesson today anyway, he will lose in five more moves." The faceless man chuckled and tipped his bamboo hat to Katai. "I suggest a draw hmm? These young ladies would like their Katai back. Who am I to resist such an offer?" He chuckled again as he awaited his wielder's decision though it was painfully true that the game of Shogi was in Shinseki's favor now.

"F-fine..I concede to a draw, but we will settle this."

Kawashii, looked to the innocent face of her Zanpakutou, wondering what she had in mind, as she listened to the words of Katai's conceit. A little relived, she began to realize that he knew when he was outmatch. It was good for him to know, in case he was facing something that might get him killed.

"What, pray tell, did you have in mind," she asked, the princess looking figure, trying to guess in her mind, what kind of things might be running through O-Ruoanashingu's.

"Well, it's more of a survival trial," O-Ruoanashingu, admitted. "Now, I estimated your last time going up against the Captain here, you happen to last for a whole two minutes twenty eight seconds. I'm proposing a handicap. She won't be aloud to even use Shikai, You'll be able to see how well she fairs without the use of hers or my abilities." As she turned to face, Kawashii, she spoke out, "Yes dear, that means no purple glowing powers either."

(Sorry, it was taking so long. My computer was stolen. I will try to get to the library more often. P smile

Katai's brow piqued at the handicap as detailed by O-Ruoanashingu. Shinseki just shook his head and chuckled all the while, clearly amused by this. "That is correct, two minutes and twenty-eight seconds. A squad record if I recall..but that was then. I might just have improved."

"Ah-ah, don't get ahead of yourself Kataikun, improvement by however a margin might mean nothing if you cannot last one-hundred forty-nine seconds, ehehee." The faceless samurai chuckled again, wagging his finger to Katai who looked rather annoyed by the foolery. Katai understood his limits entirely, and understood what it would take to challenge his Captain head on even while she was handicapped it was always a gamble with odds against him. "I cannot help but wonder honorable O-Ruoanashingu, is this but a test of Zenryokusama's ability should she be unable to call upon you for aid and is restricted from releasing? It would be as if she was in the Academy once again...basically"

O-Ruoanashingu, gave a gentle smile, as she responded, "You're Captain is much better at using her hands. I merely provide her the extra support she may need, when her hands are rendered ineffective."

Kawashii, believed this to be an endurance test for her, as her Zanpakutou suggested the refusal of using her power. Knowing that the caring nature of her closest friend, she figured that she wouldn't allow anything serious to happen to her, if she was placed in a tight spot.

"Her faith in me makes me want to do it," she said with a smile, having her confidence renewed. "She probably thinks I rely on her too much." With a little stretch of her arms, she continued, "Maybe I do. I haven't had a full on chance to use Hakuda anyways."

(Very sorry. I lack an excuse. I guess I over looked it.)
