There was nothing to do again today. The majority of warriors were already out on patrol, and with so many gone she was not allowed to leave camp, nor would she want to if she wished to do her best to protect her clan. But it drove her crazy to just sit around and do absolutely nothing inside the camp while she waited, but she knew if she started to pace around she would just drive the others crazy. But here she was, sitting on her haunches with her tail lashing wildly, her eyes burning into the ground. She just felt so helpless, so powerless towards her clan. What could she possibly do to help the clan by just sitting around?
In frustration, Nightsong laid herself down on the ground, crossing her forelegs over each other in order to rest her chin upon the cross in her legs. She let out a large, long sigh out of her nostrils, blinking several times as thoughts buzzed loudly around her mind like dozens of flies hovering around a rotten carcass. Times like this made her think about her past, about her heritage. What would Chaosstar do in such a time like this? Where the clan was starving and there wasn't much to do to help the clan besides sitting around? Would he have just sat around and talked with his warriors? Or would he leave on his own and do what needed to be done, just like he had all those years ago? If she were to be leader one day and follow in his legendary pawsteps, what could she possibly do now? And what should she do?

SilverStar stared at the scrawny half starved frog in front of her. Was this really all that she could do for her clan. Picking it up gingerly she headed back to camp. Her pelt was fluffed out against the wind that was coming out of windclan territory.
And then she saw something she never thought she would see. A Windclan cat headed straight for the line in high pursuit of a rabbit. With her fluffed out pelt she watched them run the rabbit right across the line and into shadowclan. The rabbit was plump and already tired. SilverStar snarled and lunged at the other cat. It backed off instantly running back across the border. Silverstar started after the rabbit. It was only a stroke of luck that it was already exhausted. So when Silverstar started the chase it wasn't long.
She killed the rabbit and put it with her toad. She pulled the rabbit along like she would a really large kitten. It was too precious to let drag in the mud. She made her way back to the camp. Her eyes were gleaming in triumph as she headed straight toward the center of the camp where the freshkill pile should be. She set the rabbit down gingerly. Her pelt was clinging to her ribs but she would make sure the elders and the queens got some food. If there was any left she would call for patchprayer... She stared at the over plump rabbit. It wasn't nearly big enough. She flicked her ears. "NightSong? Do you know if the elders or our queens have eaten today?" She glanced over her shoulder. Her gaze was sad...but held a glimmer of hope. Maybe one of the other patrols had brought back enough food for the elders and queens at least... her warriors needed to eat too after all.

As soon as her leader was just outside the proximity of the camp, Nightsong was already at attention with her eyes and ears swiveled and honed in on her position. The leader and deputy's scents and beings were burned into her mind, so immensely loyal that she had heightened senses when it came to their approach. She hoped that she could achieve that position one day, just like her great-great-great grandfather, Chaosstar, and she would surpass his leadership legend and be a better leader than he ever was. Yes, one day that position would be hers, too. She deserved it.
"Elders, yes. Queens, no," she replied immediately to her leader, her body still and eyes avid upon her. She lashed her tail back and forth twice, pausing to twitch her nose as she took in the scents of Silverstar's catches. "Good job; you found some pretty good catches today," she praised, grateful and feeling more at ease to see that some cat was bringing the clan food. It didn't matter which cat brought the food, but she was so very glad to see that the leader was a wonderful contribution to the clan today, just as she should be. If anything, the leader needed to be the strongest and most skilled in order to take care of the clan that they led.
"Is there anything you need help with, miss?" she inquired politely, blinking occasionally as she looked up upon her leader. There must be something she could do for her clan, just anything at all that would help her aid either them or her leader.

Silverstar flicked her ears in acknowledgement. That meant PatchPrayer hadn't eaten either. She frowned mentally. She glanced at the warrior. "Thank you." She walked over to sit in front of the purple cat.
SilverStar flushed under her fur. She always failed miserably at hunting. She was a deadly fighter... but when food ran low she got a little jumpy and too careful. She would stalk her prey too long or jump too early... but it helped that she had longer legs to catch up with it when it ran. "Im just glad those mouse-brained windclan cats chased it into our territory... " With a sigh she tacked on. "Although im sure they will complain royally at the gathering,"
She flicked her tail to look around the camp. "Miss?" She laughed and shook her head. "Ive known you all your life NightSong...SilverStar...Thats my name ok..." She flicked her tail toward the rabbit. "If you could take that to the nursery i will go get patchprayer and send her over to get a bite." She stood and stretched... "Then maybe we can share a boney frog..."

Nightsong flared her nostrils briefly at her leader when she noticed her flush beneath her fur at her praise, looking down upon it. She was leader, she should be proud of her skills and already know that they existed. It was nothing to get all shy and flustered about. She knew that she would never do such a thing when she was leader, if she ever made it that far. Which she would, of course!
"Of course they will! It seems as if every clan but our own only complains about things that happen to them and their own bad luck; probably because their egos are so large, they don't want to blame it on their own lack of skills and whatnot," she cheerfully agreed with Silverstar, snorting her own content. She lashed her tail around again about the thought of their weak neighbors. At every gathering, that's all they ever seemed to do. They either complained about something their neighbors had seemed to do to them or taking way too much pride in whatever success they seemed to be having.
But before she continued the conversation, she dipped her head respectfully at her leader and did just as she was asked to do. She hurriedly grasped the prey of her leader's choice between her jaws, trotting strongly over to the nursery. When she peeked her head in, the queens and the kits that were curled up inside were already sleeping, so quietly and gently she left the rabbit as close to the middle of the den as possible, so that when one of the queens woke up she would be greeted with a hearty meal; or at least as hearty of a meal as any cat was able to find.
"Yes, I called you miss," Nightsong flatly yet respectfully returned when she found her way back over by Silverstar's side. "I know we have known each other a long time, but as you already know about me I like to be formal with those in authority over me. But, if you truly insist, I can call you by your name, miss," she retorted rather calmly, standing by her own opinion and the way she was raised. If her leader wished for her to call her by her full name, she would gladly do it. But not before she reassured her approval of her decision.

SilverStar twitched her tail. Nightsongs instant reaction to her embarrassment was probably called for, however, SilverStar believed humble was good every now and then. Her ears flicked as she pondered that quickly. However she dropped it. She didn't care if her warriors disliked her modest nature... she could still take anyone of them if it came to fighting. She had the ability to think three steps ahead. And while she had been leader for a little more than 24 moons she still had a lot to learn.
Silverstar smiled though. The pride this cat had for her clan made her heart happy. NightSong had all the fine qualities that would one day be valued by the clan as either an amazing warrior or possibly higher ranks. Her tail flicked.
As she nodded and watched the cat head toward the fresh kill pile to take the rabbit to the nursery, she stood to go get patchprayer. She ducked into the medicine cat den and told the she-cat before ducking back out. She headed over and scooped up the frog to take it over to a sunny spot. She licked her paws as she waited for NightSong. It was always more enjoyable to eat with someone...
When NightSong came back SilverStar perked her ears as she spoke. Sh sighed however. "I know you like to be respectful.. but miss seems so distant. What kind of leader would i be... if i didn't relate to the cats im leading... So its up to you... If you want to call me miss... thats your choice... Just know... I was given my name by Starclan... and i actually quite like it." She grinned and her tone dripped with humor at the end of that statement.

"I understand. But it is up to you; you know that I will do absolutely anything you order me to do, so if that's what you prefer, then I shall call you by your name, SilverStar," she bluntly yet neutrally responded to her, keeping her eye contact with her leader unbroken by any blinks or eye shifts. She knew that she would do absolutely anything that her figures of authority asked of her to do, even if it was against her wishes or personality. She knew how important her orders were when given to her, so even if she were ordered to lay with her most hated tom outside the clan, other clanner or not, she would. If she were ordered to jump from the top of a tree or a cliff...well, she may reject at first, but she would definitely consider it and might do it if she were ordered to. She was simply an extended part of her leaders and therefore would do as they ordered her to, just as her leader's paw would move forward if their brain asked it to.
She chuckled slightly with a purr attached to the end of it at her leader's light humor, finding it quite cute and respectable. "I can understand that, too. I quite like my name as well, for it was given by my parents appropriately and probably inspired by StarClan as well, perhaps from my most ancient grandfather. I'm blessed by his blood, anyway," she meowed, flicking her tail left and right.caffeinecraving I'm so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, sooooooooooooooooooooo sorry for the wait!!!! I would have gotten to this sooner, but with college, preparing for the storm, and losing power it was really difficult to! And I'm so sorry that it's so short! 3

SilverStar wanted to smack the other cat. But her out ward appearance was one of respect. She respected all of her cats. Because they respected her. "Ok...then i would much prefer you to call me Silverstar." She flicked her ears and settled lightly to nudge the frog a bit. "Tops or bottoms for you, NightSong?"
Silverstar knew the frog wasn't a great meal to be shared but she needed at least a bite of food to keep her brain functioning. She curled her tail up by her side.
While she was hungry, she would wait to figure out which part Nightsong liked more... SilverStar tended to like heads but at the moment... anything would do.

She blankly (both inwardly and outwardly) ignored the flash of aggression within her leader's eyes after she had made her comment. There was no harm done; she hadn't insulted Silverstar, nor did she lie about anything in the least. And just like any respectable leader, Silverstar kept her body relaxed, even though her eyes had betrayed her for those brief milliseconds.
"Yes, Silverstar. Of course. As you wish," she rumbled, dipping her head to her leader respectfully. She listened closely to the following words that her leader spoke to her. Nightsong was honored to have been invited to share a meal with her leader, no matter what the meal was, but honestly could care less which part of the frog she ate. She probed away at her mind as best as she could, trying to remember her leader's eating habits. The leader deserved the better part, or at least their favorite. "I would like the bottoms, please," she meowed, giving her leader a gentle stare.
