South of the deep forest is the valley. It marks the south eastern border of the territory, with the eastern border found somewhere in the depths of the forest. From the valley, one can see the river and plains to the south. It is a great vantage point, though remote. Wide patrols touch this distant part of the territory.

the stars to his skyxxxxxxxx

the e x i l e sister

The sky was starting to turn a vibrant shade of blood red. The young, white fae paused from daily rounds and look up into the sky, admiring the color show taking place in the sky. Dusk was her favorite time of day, a time of pure beauty. She lifted her nose in the air, sniffing the scents of the world around her. She could smell everything, from the fresh, crisp scent of the nearby rushing river to the smells of other nearby wolves. Her ears flicked at each and every subtle sound, her instincts tuning in to everything around her. A raven called loudly from the top of the mountain and a rabbit ran quickly through the brush. Her tail began moving back and forth like a steady pendulum, a sign of excitement. Being a Sigma was probably the best thing that had ever happened for her. Looking back, the young wolf knew her life wasn't the best, but ever since they found Ajax's pack, things seemed to be taking a turn for the better.

A young, black wolf bounded up beside her, tongue lolling out the side of his mouth as he panted. His tail resembled a snake, shaking back and forth in excitement. He trotted beside her, nuzzling at her neck and nose. His scratchy tongue licked under her jaw in greeting, his submissive actions strange for a large wolf like him. "Sister," He said between pants. "You should've helped run down that rabbit with me! He was big and plump and looked quite tasty." The fae nuzzled her brother, grateful for his return. "We're on patrol, Nox, not playtime." She responded, coldly shutting her playful brother down.

It had been like this ever since they were pups fresh from their mother's belly; the two were complete opposites but the best of friends. Nox was a big, bad Zeta, a bully of a wolf who likes to do things just for the thrill. Ever since he was an Iota, Nox had been getting in trouble, doing things he shouldn't and picking on the other pups. He was beyond strong for his age, and cocky too. He loved proving his strengths for others, especially his sister. Sidus, on the other hand, was calm, quiet, and reserved. As an Iota, she always listened to her Upsilon and worked hard to do the best in her lessons. She was small, lean, but fast, making a perfect Sigma. Sidus was smart and wise, always making sure her brother was in line. Sometimes she believes that they should have been attached at the hip but then would laugh at what a sight that would make.

The two continued walking, Sidus with her ears and eyes open for any signs of danger. It was her job of Sigma to warn the pack of oncoming danger and it was her brother's job to keep her safe. Nox wasn't too happy about that though. He would rather be running hunts with the other Zetas, removing dangers to the pack and feeling the warm blood in his mouth. Instead he was stuck here, restless, pestering his concentrated sister. They padded together in unison, their sensitive paws feeling the dirt underneath. Once in a while they would stop and mark a tree, scratch at the bark or rub against the trunk. But most of the times they continued forward in silence, something Sidus appreciated more than anything. Soon they came upon the sharp cliff of the ravine, a straight drop into rushing waters below. The two wolves looked over the edge, gazing at the setting sun in the distance.

Sidus loved patrols like these, it gave her time away from the hectic pack to think long and hard about some things. Years passed since her and her brother had been banished from their birth pack, forcing them to grow up in exile ever since. She oftentimes found herself wondering what life would be like if nothing had happened, and sometimes she dared to wonder what her old pack was doing now. Nox liked to ask her if she thought if they thought about them. Sidus prepared for another round of silly questions she already answered in the past when Nox surprised her with a hidden ace.

"Do you miss them?" He asked her quietly as they watched the sunset. "Our birth pack, I mean."

The question shocked her at first and she found no words to answer. But as she thought for a moment, a truthful answer came to her. "No. And I highly doubt that they miss us."

Zeff

One Beast and only One ▬▬▬ ▬▬( ❦ )

Jogging as silently as possible through the trees, the young russet wolf named Zeff who had not too long ago entered his second year of life, looked around with bright curious eyes at the valley in front of him. He had never dared venture this far away from the group before, but as long as he was still in his pack's territory he was confident that he would be safe. No one would hurt him here, the Zetas were doing their jobs and nothing could slip past them. There was no doubt of him being proud of being born into Archon, and he was staunchly loyal to its members.

Tail swishing gently, he slowed and walked over to a plant that caught his attention. The young wolf didn't remember seeing a plant like that before. Even in the heat of summer, it had beautiful reddish leaves. What kind of plant was that? Tilting his head to the side, Zeff examined it with his eyes, then poked at it with his paw. What a strange plant… he walked around it, examining it from all angles. Maybe one of the others would know what it was called. Sticking his nose closer to it, he sniffed it and sneezed. Zeff took a step back and raised a paw to cover his nose and sneezed again. Well so much for that plan. The plant could stay where it was. If it was going to make him sneeze he wasn't going to be carrying a pice of it back with him.

His curiosity satisfied, at least partially, he resumed his jog through the valley on his way back to the den. In all his exploring, he'd lost track of time and if anything happened, he was too young and too small to property defend himself. The most he could do was run for his life and as fast as he was, there were probably older wolves who were faster. The wolf wouldn't go back to the others without getting a snack first, so as his eyes darted about for signs of movement, his ears twitched in an effort to hear any small animals running around. There had to be something out here for him to chase! The sun had only just set.

Pausing suddenly at the sound of something moving around to the left of him, Zeff gave what amounted to a grin and started to follow it. He moved slowly trying to get as close as possible before the rabbit noticed him. Just a little closer and he could—a twig snapped under his paw and his target looked up sharply then took off running. Zeff growled in annoyance and took off racing after it. "Hey, come back here! I just wanna play!" Well, play for a while before he got bored and hungry. The rabbit was fast and Zeff knew he would probably have to tire it before he managed to capture it. Barking excitedly and focused entirely on his quarry, he didn't even notice how close he was to Sidus and Nox who were out on patrol.

the sky to her starsxxxxxxxx

the e x i l e brother

Whenever Nox thought about his past, his brain was always lost somewhere else. As he sat back on his rump and placed his paws on the edge of the canyon ledge, his dug deep into his past to relive his younger years. The day that he and Sidus were banished from the pack still was as clear as the fresh water from the source of the river. It was the day of the first snow, and that morning large and heavy flakes had begun falling in clumps from the dark grey sky. Everything seemed normal to the two young Iotas until the sound of a wailing call shot fear all through his body. The two rushed towards the main den, mouths still warm with the blood of a fresh rabbit, when they were greeted with the sight of their large clan lined up in a tight line with snarling lips pulled back over sharp, pointed teeth. It wasn’t hard to miss the pool of blood surrounding the two dead wolves piled up before them. It didn’t take Nox long to sniff out the scent of his own parents. Sidus, like the wimp she was, back away with her tail tucked between her legs in submission, but Nox stayed to fight. He was a brave for his age, but stupid. The pack charged at him until he too was running with his tail tucked tight between his legs. That day haunted his memory permanently, plagued his dreams at night, and drove him to be the best he could be. Somewhere deep inside of him, Nox knew what his true purpose was. One day he would return to that awful pack and show them the true strength of an Alpha's son.

The sun was hidden behind the mountains now, turning the sky into a vibrant show of blue and purple. The last few rays of day light peaked out from behind the rigid rock, sending heavenly rays of light into the sky above. Nox exhaled slowly, breathing out through his nose. He longed to talk to his sister about it, but she never said anything. Unlike him, Sidus preferred to forget about that awful day. She would rather toss the memory aside and move on while Nox wanted nothing but revenge. Some days she would say some brief things on the topic, but most of the times Sidus's lips were sealed. She was always quiet, but it would be nice if she said something about it once and a while. She talked about everything else enough though. Well, more like complained about it. If the Iotas or pups of the pack were noisy, then Nox heard all about it. If a Zeta-Sigma duo on patrol got into a tussle, he heard about it. When Sidus was asked to be a Sigma, she was to report to Ajax and the pack, not him. He looked over the canyon once more, watching the rushing water below. He went to say something else when a sudden noise startled him.

It was the sound of crunching leaves, of heavy breath. Everything smelled like stinking wolf. Nox was aware of every wolf in the pack, but for some reason this one was unfamiliar. Jumping up on his feet with extreme quickness, Nox turned in a flash to face the unknown intruder. He had his lips parted in a half snarl, but no noise came from his throat. He eyed the brown and grey coated wolf carefully as Sidus turned her head slowly to watch as well. It was only a few moment later did Nox realize this wolf was a young Iota of the pack. There were so many these days, he failed to keep track of them all. His fur lowered on his haunches and he closed his jaws, taking long, deep breaths. “Zeff,” He said slowly, walking a slow, protective circle around his sister.

“It is unwise to sneak up on two of your elders.” Sidus said slowly, eying the Iota with blue eyes. “But welcome, is this first time you’ve been away from the main den?” The sun had fully disappeared by now, the dark purple sky casting long, trailing shadows all around the three wolves. A lone gust blew softly and Nox was greeted with the sweet, earthy smell of his sister and the stench of ten other Iotas off the young wolf. Turning his head, Nox said nothing, heart pounding like it had two years ago.

Zeff

One Beast and only One ▬▬▬ ▬▬( ❦ )

Zeff felt that he was closing in on his prey. The rabbit was obviously tiring and soon he would be able to overtake it. Lowering his head, he nipped at the hind legs of the rabbit, bitting air. He was hot on its heels and the thrill of the chase coursed through his small body. He heart beat frantically in his chest, pushing oxygenated blood to his muscles, while he breathed in as much of that precious gas as he could get, trying to keep his breathing as steady and deep as possible. His paws sunk a little deeper into the soft earth at his feet as he ran, really digging in at times as he turned a corner sharply to keep pace with his prey. Growling and snapping at it, he tried to close his jaws around it, but the mammal seemed to predict his movements and put on an extra burst of speed or dodge just in time. This challenge only made the young wolf, try to redouble his efforts to catch it. Just imagine the stories he could tell the other Iotas!

*Growling, Zeff gave one final push, digging deep for an extra bit of speed so he could get alongside the rabbit. The small animal had been zigzagging long enough and the yearling wolf wanted to claim his prize. After all of this work, it was the least that he deserved. Teeth found fur and flesh, and warm blood gushed into his mouth, the smell of it over-flooded his senses for a moment. He held on tightly as it struggled to get free while he tried to figure out just how to finish this without it bounding away. He just had to remember what he'd been taught… even though hunting by far wasn't his greatest skill. Finally managing to put the poor creature out of its misery, Zeff stood proudly over the carcass, his tail wagging happily as he barked in triumph.

Licking the blood from around his muzzle, he would have started into his meal, were it not for a shift in the wind that brought with it the sent of two other wolves. A whimper leaving his lips, his ears flattened against his head, and he took a step back as his eyes darted around. He sniffed the air again, trying to see if he could place the wolves. Luckily for him and his meal, he could. Straightening he went over to the body beside him and picked it up before trotting over to the other two.

The russet wolf kept his tail low, but wagged it slightly in greeting in response to his name being said, then dropped the dead rabbit at their feet, assuming a more submissive position. "Look at what I caught!" He exclaimed happily, almost shaking with excitement. Then taking deep breaths, he managed to calm down and adopt a more respectful and serious tone of voice.*

"Sorry, I wasn't trying to sneak up on you," Zeff lowered his head apologetically for a moment before he looked back up and around at the valley. It really was peaceful here, and he would love to be able to explore it fully one day, finding all the little secret places that no body else knew about. When asked if it was his first time here, he nodded. "Yes, it is. I thought that maybe I could explore the outskirts of our territory today." He scratched the side of his muzzle then looked away again and up at the dark sky, his tail swishing softly. It looked like it would be a beautiful night. He hoped it stayed this way.

Sidus watched her brother as he carefully walked a slow circle around her, fur on his haunches standing on end, and grew annoyed inside. She recognized Zeff when she had first smelled him and there was no reason Nox should be so protective. She was a big girl, she could handle herself. Besides, what kind of damage could a young Iota like Zeff do to a Sigma like her? Pestered, she nipped at Nox's bushy tail as he walked before her before looking at Zeff with kindness. "Impressive catch." She said softly, a small smile playing on her black lips. The rabbit smelled absolutely delicious at the moment, although the final blow was a bit messy. He was young, so what did she expect? Most Iotas can barely run down a rabbit nor catch one for that matter. As she watched the young wolf wag his tail in excitement the white fae could see promise in him. She imagined him as a strong and lean Sigma like herself, running across the lands to protect the clan. The thought only made her smile a little bit bigger. "All of your brothers and sisters are going to be jealous after you've filled your belly with rabbit."

The Iota moved on to apologize for startling the Zeta-Sigma duo on patrol, lowering his head in submission. Sigma nodded, hopping the young wolf learned his lesson. Although Nox could be hotheaded, he knew how to control himself. Other wolves might not. Sigma learned the hard way as a pup. Her and Nox were messing around outside the den when they were Iotas themselves when they came across a Sigma on patrol. Nox, the stupid thing that he is, convinced Sidus it would be funny if they scared the familiar wolf. Nox and Sidus pounced out from the brush and sent the Sigma into a frightened fury, resulting in Sidus taking a nasty scratch on her flank. The scar is still there to this day but has long since been hidden by her soft, snow-like fur. Zeff told her about his first journey from the main den and she listened carefully, saying nothing but listening all the while. Most Iotas were curious by nature and their first tales of roaming the woods were full with exaggerated stories of big monsters and epic hunts. It made Sidus laugh when they truly experience adulthood and complain the whole time of how boring work for the pack could be. While they long to see the world, Sidus only wished to return to the main den and sleep her muscle cramps away. Her feet were awfully sore, her tummy rumbling for something to eat, and her heart longing to see some new faces.

Their pack was its largest this year, and these past days it seemed that everyone had a mate. Everyone except her. All she had was Nox, and according to Nox, she was not permitted to have anyone else. She appreciated her brother's protection now and then, but she was a fae grown and was ready to go out on her own. Sidus was unsure if she wanted pups, but often thought about it on patrol and wondered what motherhood was like. An old crone in her old pack once described motherhood as one of the most amazing feelings in the world. Sidus watched the pups at the den sometimes and got annoyed with how needy they were. Motherhood might be beautiful, but Sidus didn't think she would take to it easily.

Zeff was still talking while she blanked out, leaving her looking stupidly at him as he finished. She was about to apologize when something caught her attention. She paused, looking up at the sky as she listened to the distant howl of a familiar voice. It was Ajax, and he was calling her and her brother for their position. That only meant one thing, the Deltas were going hunting. She disregarded the young Iota before her and threw her head up in a howl, Nox joining in quickly. They sung in unison, letting their leader know that they were taking position in the Valley. After their song was finished, the fair-coated fae looked back to the Iota before her. "I think it would be in your best interest to return back to your den now." She said softly, looking up to the mountain that the Archon pack made their home. "Go, take your catch and share your stories with your litter mates. Ajax is coming and I don't want you getting in any trouble now." She winked at him and urged him along, sitting on her haunches to wait for the arrival of their Alpha. She had plenty of news to share, and some to keep secret.

[ Nakorabi ]
~~~~~ Walk under moonlight, fae of the south ~~
No rank
Two years of living as a lone wolf, two years successful. The slightly patchy fur would give it away though, that in those years she had had her fair share of encounters with other packs. That was something she'd admit to, regardless of whom asked. Nakorabi had a reputation that sometimes preceded her as a kill stealer, a bully, and repeat offender for trespassing. She could and would do nothing about this reputation of course. What good would it do if there were more than one voice against her? One voice against many is overwhelmed. It was at times like this that she wished for her family's company. Why hadn't she circled back and followed their scents? Didn't she enjoy their company, or perhaps, the thought lingered that Nakorabi had wanted to move further north anyway and had hoped that they would follow her.
However it was, the fae lumbered onto the pack territory and as she crossed the marked border and noted its owner, she remained alert. The scent was of a prime age male alpha, and of a prideful nature. Such was its warning, and in her experience, that latter fact usually meant that there was a large pack on these grounds. Making a note of that, Nakorabi hung back near the edge, never straying from the border by more than one hundred and fifty feet. Yes, this was the trespassing aspect, and from a point of view, kill-stealing as well. At least, from pack grounds anyway.
Zeff
One Beast and only One ▬▬▬ ▬▬( ❦ )
Zeff gave a happy bark and then wagged his tail, proud to have received such a compliment from the Sigma. He knew he would have to try not to let it go to his head but he knew himself and he would be bragging to his siblings about this kill for a few days. He thought briefly about embellishing the tale a bit when he told it but decided against it. It was a spur of the moment hunt driven most by his hunger and his craving for a little bit of excitement before he went back to the den. Regardless of whether or not he had actually made the kill, he would have been happy. Maybe a bit disappointed if after all his effort he had nothing to show for it and had to rely on the other wolves in the pack for tonight's meal, not to mention embarrassed when he noticed the Sigma and Zeta, but he would get over it quickly enough.
A howl cut through the valley making him jump, and his tail cease it's wagging. By the tone and timber of that howl he instantly recognized it as the alpha. Deep, confident, and powerful, it sent shivers down the young Iota's spine. Then Sidus and Nox tossed back their heads and howled in reply. Their voices blending and forming a beautiful melody in the night. One of these days he'd be able to howl like that. To answer the Alpha's call with something useful to report or even in a pack howl. Right now he kept quiet knowing instinctively that he wasn't being called and it was for the two older wolves. He envied them.
The howl finished, Sidus told him to get going before the Alpha arrived. Zeff whined a little, wanting to stay and ask questions and figure out what was going on, but knew the Sigma was probably right. It was best that he get going before it became completely dark and under the cover of darkness non-pack wolves became emboldened and entered the valley. Nodding he picked up the rabbit to take it with him and eat it on the way. "You'll tell me about it later right? This sounds like it's going to be interesting." He would have said something else but his stomach rumbled softly and he decided that it was best that he get going. "Nevermind. See you at the den! Have a good night."
With that, Zeff ran off with his prize held tight, heading towards the north on his way back to the den. He ran for a few minutes until he found someplace that was relatively well covered to eat his meal. It was a little cold now, but that was okay. It was still edible and it was something he'd killed himself so all the better. Tearing into the rabbit carcass with gusto, the Iota's tail wagged excitedly. He was going to be so full when he finished this. Or maybe he could just take the rest back to prove his story. He didn't really have to finish it right here an it was probably better if he kept moving. Every few bites he would look up and look around, his ears twitching and straining for any foreign sounds. A sigma he'd spoken to the day before told him that when he was alone and away from the pack he should always be aware of his surroundings. Right now that advice made perfect sense. Zeff would quickly take another few bites before starting off again. If he was too stuffed he couldn't run.
N O X
the sky to her starsxxxxxxxx
the e x i l e brother
Sidus bid the young Iota farewell after Ajax called for their location, but the curious male only wanted more. "You'll tell me about it later, right?" He asked with his tail wagging happily back and forth. Of course, every young pup got this way when the first large hunt of the season came into play. Everyone wanted a piece of the pie paired with a fresh story to share with their litter mates. Nox paced impatiently, wondering when Ajax would show. Surely he would be a little upset if he saw Nox and his sister chatting up an Iota during their patrol. Nox was about to speak up, bid his own farewell, when the young male excused himself, grabbing his catch up off the ground before bounding off into the woods.
Nox sat on his haunches and exhaled slowly, rising his head up to the sky. He longed to howl again, he craved the feeling that his voice made as it shot through the night sky, his deep song pairing perfectly with the high-pitched twinkling of his sisters. Their voices asserted their dominance, warning all wolves nearby that they meant business. Nox hadn't howled that way for a very long time. Being a Zeta, Nox was used to only sharp snaps, rumbling snarls, and deep growls. Sidus, she was used to howling, but didn't understand her brother's love for the songs. Nox thought howling was pure beauty, something that the wolf gods blessed each wolf with. His tongue lolled out of his mouth now, panting. When Sidus finally cleared her own thoughts, she looked her brother in the eye. "Nox, are you going on the hunt tonight?" She asked him, cocking her fluffy white head to the side.
Nox thought a bit before answering. Normally, Zetas didn't go on hunting trips for the hunt, but for the guarding. Zetas were the true brutes of the pack, the ones who were absolutely vicious, ruthless, and blood thirsty. They went along with the Deltas to protect them from other dangers, like mountain cats, stray wolves, or even bears. Nox wouldn't admit it, but if they asked him to land the final blow on the prey, he was unsure if he could do it. Nox was built for strength, not skill. He could kill, but not in the clean, quick way Deltas could. Nox was unsure if he should go on the hunt tonight. The danger he and Sidus saw on patrol this evening was low, it always was in the summer. But Nox longed to run with his brothers and sisters, chasing after plump elk and feeling the warm night air flow freely through his fur. The thought of going tonight pleased him, but as he looked at his sister, he remembered the promise he made her a while back. Tonight was one of the nights that she liked to spend up at the source of the river instead of sleeping in the main den. Sidus and little pups don't mix well together, and although she never asked him specifically, Nox always felt better inside when he was with her. He loved his sister to death and Nox didn't know what he would do without her.
"I know you wanted to go up to the river tonight..." Nox said slowly, scraping one of his paws back and forth in the dirt. He wouldn't say that he was disappointed, but Nox was doing a fairly rough time hiding it. Yet, instead of being upset, Sidus replied without missing a beat. "No worries brother, I've been wanting a little alone time if I speak the truth." She reassured him with a nod as his lips curled into an excited smile. His thick, black tail swished back and forth in the dirt anxiously, his heart racing in his chest. "Many thanks, sister. I'll ask Ajax if he will welcome my company as soon as he arrives." The thought of the upcoming hunt excited him greatly, especially the thought of chasing down some prey. He hadn't been hunting in ages and he looked forward to running under the moonlight with his brothers. Nox couldn't wait.
                                                  Amongst the shadows stalked a lone ebony fae. Her icy sea glass eyes reflected the moon as she trotted along the valley. There was a stillness in the air. Even the mist seemed to stop rolling in respects to the Zeta. Her pace was set at a casual lope, though her tread was careful, as not to step on a single wild flower. The fae didn't pause to acknowledge a passing pack mate (Zeff). The brute was none of her concern for the time being. The fae was off in search of her brother. There was to be a hunt, launched sometime around dawn. She hadn't had a meal of venison in what seemed like ages. Not that she needed a big meal. There were no wars to be fought, a good things she supposed. The time of peace seemed like a fluke to Nauja. Her days weren't really spent sparring anymore, but rather doing tedious chores around the densite. She wasn't about to complain about it, she simply wasn't accustomed to it.
                                                  Up ahead, a pair of wolves came into her sight. A remarkable duet they were! The white fae's flawless, snowy pelt stood out while her brother's kept him well hidden. Not unlike Nauja, the dark brute was a perfect weapon under the cover of night. Nauja didn't bother quickening her pace. She would catch up to them in fair time. "Fair time" came a little too soon. The Zeta fae came to realize she had little (if anything at all) to say. She took a moment of premeditation before speaking up.
                                                  "Hey." She said rather bluntly. Her raspy voice was a recognizable one amongst the pack. She bowed her head a little and then turned to Nox. A Zeta as well, she was fairly familiar with him. Not exactly "friends" (a word Nauja rarely used anyways), but more so acquaintances. She gave a nod of acknowledgment to Sidus as well. The fae's gaze sliced through the light fae as she returned her focus on Nox. She shifted her weight so more pressure was put on her left side. She had trouble getting comfortable, especially around other wolves. She dug her claws into the soft soil at her feet. "Ugh..." She thought to herself. "This is going to be interesting."
the stars to his skyxxxxxxxx
the e x i l e sister
Sidus was relieved when her brother asked if it was ok with her if he went on tonight's hunt. Normally on the late days of the seasons, Sidus liked to go off on her own towards the source of the river to relax and spend some time to herself. Pack life was great and all, way better than living on your own, but sometimes things get a little out of control. The small pups and young Iotas were always eager to learn knew things and talk to all of their elders. Sidus liked talking to them some times, but more often than not their endless questions often got on her nerves. They often gave Sidus awful migraines and the only thing that could soothe those headaches was the soft trickle of water from the river. The problem was, Nox was always with her. After the past few months, Sidus believed that he would never leave her alone for more than one minute. Now, with the opportunity hanging in open air, Sidus wouldn't miss the chance to grab it. She reassured her brother, letting him know that she would be okay. She need some time to...think. She was doing an awful lot of thinking lately and she craved for more. The only problem was that she never had time to do so. While Nox seemed visibly excited to go hunting tonight, Sidus was equally excited to spend some alone time.
Who knows, tonight might be the night she met that "special someone". Sidus longed for a life partner ever since she was a pup herself when an her old wet nurse would tell romantic stories of her mother and father's young love. Sidus thought love was a beautiful and magical thing. When she and Nox were forced to live on their own for a while, Sidus had given up almost all hope of ever finding a mate. Then, after they joined Archon, those romantic dreams returned. Sidus wondered if anyone felt special about her here. Archon was a large pack, if she was going to find a mate now, she would surely find on here. Sidus was starting to loose herself in her thoughts and dreams again when a soft rustling caught her attention.
She slowly turned her head to face the brush Zeff had recently disappeared from when she spotted a salt-and-pepper fae step out through. She was a big brute, a Zeta just like her brother. Her resemblance to Nox almost gave her the chills, along with her harsh personality. She looked sharply at Sidus, then Nox, then back to Sidus. Her pale eyes were as sharp as razors, cutting right through Sidus' skin. She involuntarily pulled herself backward slightly, feeling a bit of nervousness around the large fae. She was at least twice the size of the white Sigma and Sidus didn't doubt a single aspect of her strength. She was wise enough to know that female Zeta's are rare to come by, and the ones you know, you don't mess with. "Hey." She said bluntly, calling for their attention. Nox greeted his fellow brute warmly with a dip of his head as his tail flicked back and forth slowly. Her name was Nauja, Sidus had seen her around before. She watched her carefully now, taking note to her nervous actions.
"Greetings Nauja." Nox said happily, giving the invitation for the fae to come closer. "My sister and I were just on patrol, we are waiting for Ajax's arrival to give him the details before we head on the hunt tonight. Were you planning on going tonight?"
Sidus felt like she should say something, but she felt so inferior to the brute. She would not run like a coward, but watch with careful eyes. The fur on the back of her neck began to rise slowly, a tingling sensation going down her spine. Sidus knew she was safe in the presence of her brother, but the sharp looks from the fae were enough to slice right through her. For once, Sidus was glad she was not alone.
[ Nakorabi ]
~~~~~ Walk under moonlight, fae of the south ~~
No rank

Nakorabi observed for a while, smirking at her uncontested presence. While it was true that there wasn't much of a wind at all, it would almost be an insult to the pack's noses. Lolling her tongue out in continued silent laughter, the fae moved further down along the territory's edge. Maybe the pack was so large it had very little to fear, and things were lax. She didn't see any particular area that would be best suited to pups and raising them. No, those were usually in dug-out dens, well sheltered and usually in or under rock gatherings. This was no such place, and despite her remaining inquiry that she had stumbled upon the pack's preferred birthing and raising grounds, she knew it was not. Too few wolves at all, even young wolves half her age would still be watched to a degree.

While only two years old herself, her journeys and "adventures" had gained her an excellent understanding of pack "tactics". It was theoretically possible to breach the territory's boundaries right into a den site, such areas were often highly guarded nine times out of ten. Shaking off that ridiculous folly, the fae dismissed the present pack members as unobservant, or perhaps uncaring. If it were the latter, so much the better. Apathy was a tool and a situation Nakorabi exploited as often as she could. She smelled water further down the mountainside, and instinct took her to following. Her father, as she'd learned in the early parts of her short life thus far, often fished with a high rate of success. Maybe she would have luck. Rivers were often boundaries by themselves, or near to them. Natural dividing lines carved by nature herself. In such a manner, she could effectively flee across the boundary line before she could be set upon.

With a whisk of her tail and a low pant, she trotted off...her paws compacting the ground under her as she went.

                                                  Sidus stepped back and eyed Nauja. The ebony Zeta took note of the lighter Sigma's reaction. It was good to be fearsome, but not so that one's packmates were fearful. Nauja pursed her lips and decided to tune out the Sigma. She turned to Nox. The dark brute greeted her with a casual bow of his head. Being far more familiar with him, Nauja inched closer.

                                                  "My sister and I were just on patrol, we are waiting for Ajax's arrival to give him the details before we head on the hunt tonight. Were you planning on going tonight?" Nox asked. He was coming off as a little more inviting than usual. Nauja frowned. She wasn't that great of a hunter. She preferred an opponent that would stand and fight rather than one that would simply run for the hills. It didn't sound mandatory, but it was sure to look bad if she didn't show up. She paused before offering an empty smirk.

                                                  "I might as well. It's been too long since i've tasted a fresh kill." Nauja licked her lips. She hadn't been amongst the others at the last few feedings. She was always late or off on a patrol. Not one for large gatherings, she was surprisingly looking forward to the hunt.

                                                  If Nox and Sidus were to report to Ajax before the hunt, Nauja would probably be best to not tag along. There were other things to be accomplished.
                                                  "Where are we to meet for this hunt?" She inquired. Her eyes softened as she gazed upon her fellow Zeta. She was beginning to feel more at ease.

The Alpha male covered ground easily and quickly. He knew exactly where the patrolling wolves would be, and slowed as he arrived at the outskirts of the valley. He hoped they had completed a full patrol and the brute had not interrupted them mid-way, but there was little to be done now. He had asked for a report, and he would be given one.

As he slowed his pace to a trot, he automatically put his muzzle to the ground, scenting who had been here and when. He knew not to expect any intruders - the patrol would have called for him otherwise - and the Alpha scented several wolves in the area, many of whom were still nearby and others that had only recently left. Raising his head, Ajax noted the Tau female Nakorabi had seemingly slipped away unnoticed. The brute couldn't determine any other bodies leaving with her, but then again he did not have the trained nose of a Sigma and thus wasn't an overly confident tracker.

Other scents reached him as he closed in on the patrol duo - Zeff, one of the pack's Iotas was nearby, and there was blood on him. Ajax wasn't worried however, it was not wolfen blood. Some small kill the Iota no doubt had either come across or made. Ajax made a mental note to congratulate the young brute when the hunt was over and things were a little more relaxed. He could scent the young wolf having left not too long ago, no doubt dismissed by the Vanguard on hearing the howl. Ajax grinned a little that processes were still being followed, and that Zeff had obeyed the order.

Nox and Sidus' scent intermingled, and was by far the strongest. That was to be expected, and as Ajax made his way through the brush, he was able to determine their silhouettes in the night sky. He, himself, blended in with the darkness not unlike Nox, but Ajax knew where the Zeta was, and Sidus practically glowed in the starlight. His tail swished as he approached the pair - his nose pre-warning him of another that wase in the presence of the patrol: Nauja, a Zeta fae. She was one Ajax had not expected, but did not object to her presence.

"Nox, Sidus, Nuaja," the brute greeted to each as he came to a halt before the trio. "I trust you are all well?" he added, looking the wolves over in case they showed signs of injury or fatigue. "Nox, Sidus, I have come for your report. I wish to lead a group hunt tonight and trust you have some good news so we can get underway? I met Delta Skah in the low plains. He is rounding up some of the other Deltas and meeting me at the Mountain Trails at dawn. We have a little time before then," the brute explained. He liked to keep his Vanguard informed, especially during events like these. "Nuaja, I'd appreciate if you ensured the young ones and those not participating keep clear of the hunting grounds. Perhaps return them to the denning site until our howls of victory sound across the land. I know many of them can be too curious and wish to get involved, but they'd be risking themselves and the success of the hunt. I trust it will be a simple task for you," Ajax grinned, his fangs glinting in the starlight.

While it was usually only the Deltas that hunted, it wasn't unheard of for other members of the Vanguard to participate. Ajax felt certain they had enough available Deltas for the hunt, but if the other members of the Vanguard, Safeguard and indeed the pack were in one spot not far from the rendezvous point, Ajax would be able to call on whomever might be needed should there be a spot on the hunting party to fill.

The brute looked to Nox and Sidus for their report, and so he could begin to formulate a hunting plan as Skah sought out his fellow Deltas. The air around the Alpha tingled with anticipation. He hoped the patrol would have good news for him and the pack.

the e x i l e sister

Sidus waited nervously for her brother to answer the fellow Zeta, shifting her paws back and forth on the trampled path. Sidus wasn't necessarily afraid of the fae, she was just nervous. Sidus was could be considered a lone wolf, despite the fact that she lived in such a large pack. Social skills didn't come to Sidus easily, especially since she and her brother lived alone for a major part of their young lives. She wanted to talk to the fae and not look on awkwardly as her brother and the other dark wolf chatted about the upcoming hunt. Sidus wanted nothing more to depart from the scene and travel to the source of the river to get lost in the soft blue water. She turned her head slowly to catch the newest breeze when a familiar scent entered her nose. Her ears perked up immediately, listened for the soft footsteps and crunching leaves. "Ajax." She said softly, under her breath, almost as if her words got carried away in the wind. Moments later, the black, Alpha brute made is entrance with the scents of the wild all around him.

With her sensitive nose, Sidus could smell other wolves on his fur, along the scent of a past kill. He seemed slightly winded, almost like he had been running. He greeted them curtly but kindly, informing Sidus and her brother of the situation. Thankfully, the Alpha took the conversation with Nuaja away, asking her to care for the young Iotas during the hunt. Sidus gave a brief sigh of relief then, thankful for her coming disappearance. Another awakward situation avoided, Sidus thought it was strange how fate worked out sometimes. When he asked for their report, Sidus perked up immediately. She dipped her head before speaking, assuming a position of submission.

"It's good to see you, Ajax." she said softly, in a voice like the breeze. "Tonight seems to be a perfect night for a hunt from what we've seen." She paused for a moment to look over the valley and the lands beyond, searching her mind for important information Ajax might be searching for. "There was a large herd of elk passing through the valley about two hours ago. Only a few males, but mainly females. I counted maybe three lame, maybe four. At least of dozen young ones, perfect conditions for a hunt, right?" She smiled then, loving how much more comfortable she felt. For some reason, speaking with Ajax was almost the same as talking to her brother. They looked enough alike with their black-as-night coats and fiery eyes. It was like the intimidating fae Nauja had disappeared and everything was back to how it used to be. She took a deep breath and continued, delivering some news Ajax might have not wanted to hear.

"Be warned, Alpha, there is still a rogue mountain lion in these parts, his ravage scent strong in the valley. Sidus said carefully, waiting to see how he might react. Mountain lions were dangerous creatures, especially when they were hungry. To a pack, the threat is lowered, but still, Sidus wanted none of the pack to get injured or even killed. "I trust that you will keep the pack safe, but don't lower your guard. Last time I saw him he had blood on his fur, fresh from a kill. Please, be careful." A small silence followed after Sidus's report, and Nox seemed especially quiet. Sidus thought he was going to ask the Alpha if he could go along for the wild ride.

She placed her paw on Nox's softly, telling him nonchalantly to ask. She could tell he was nervous about asking, especially since it was the first big hunt of the season. If only she could tell him it was okay without embarrassing him in front of the head of the Archon pack. Sidus looked back to Ajax, her blue eyes searching him for any kind of signs. Ajax was a simple wolf, and quiet also. He was like a shadow, moving in and out with the changes in the moon. She prayed that he was happy with her, after he ran all the way here. "Is there anything else?" She asked softly then, looking back at Nox briefly and then throwing a small sideways glance at Nauja. The night was going to get exciting, Sidus could feel it in the air. She could hear the tinkling of the river in her mind, the softness of the mud between her paws. She hoped Ajax would take Nox along with him, if Nox was going to hold his tongue like a frightened pup. Sidus shifted again, anxious to hear what Ajax had to say.

OOC:
@wolfy: my bad, Sidus is actually a smaller wolf since she is a Sigma, and very timid so that's why she is very...nervous >//<

etc: sorry for the delay~ I've been in the Big Apple the past few days and haven't been able to post! But I'm back <3
