Alight! Since NaNoWriMo is soon starting, lets all track our progress.

Tell us what you have learned from past entries. Even post your stories from the last entry.

National Novel Writing Month:
What is it? (From Site)

Quote:
National Novel Writing Month is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to novel writing. Participants begin writing on November 1. The goal is to write a 50,000-word (approximately 175-page) novel by 11:59:59 PM on November 30.

Valuing enthusiasm and perseverance over painstaking craft, NaNoWriMo is a novel-writing program for everyone who has thought fleetingly about writing a novel but has been scared away by the time and effort involved.

Because of the limited writing window, the ONLY thing that matters in NaNoWriMo is output. It’s all about quantity, not quality. This approach forces you to lower your expectations, take risks, and write on the fly.

Make no mistake: You will be writing a lot of crap. And that’s a good thing. By forcing yourself to write so intensely, you are giving yourself permission to make mistakes. To forgo the endless tweaking and editing and just create. To build without tearing down.

As you spend November writing, you can draw comfort from the fact that, all around the world, other National Novel Writing Month participants are going through the same joys and sorrows of producing the Great Frantic Novel. Wrimos meet throughout the month to offer encouragement, commiseration, and—when the thing is done—the kind of raucous celebrations that tend to frighten animals and small children.

In 2011, we had 256,618 participants and 36,843 of them crossed the 50K finish line by the midnight deadline, entering into the annals of NaNoWriMo superstardom forever. They started the month as auto mechanics, out-of-work actors, and middle school English teachers. They walked away novelists.

So, to recap:

What: Writing one 50,000-word novel from scratch in a month’s time.

Who: You! We can’t do this unless we have some other people trying it as well. Let’s write laughably awful yet lengthy prose together.

Why: The reasons are endless! To actively participate in one of our era’s most enchanting art forms! To give yourself permission to write without obsessing over quality. To be able to make obscure references to passages from our novels at parties. To stop being one of those people who say, “I’ve always wanted to write a novel,” and become one of those people who can say, “Oh, a novel? It’s such a funny story–I’ve written three.”

When: You can sign up anytime to add your name to the roster and browse the forums. Writing begins 12:00:01 November 1. To be added to the official list of winners, you must reach the 50,000-word mark by November 30 at 11:59:59. Once your novel has been verified by our web-based team of robotic word counters, the partying begins.

I am very excited to participate in NaNoWriMo this year! I haven't been officially participating in later years, and I've just recently created a new account to change my username razz

I've been doing NaNoWriMo since 2007, and I am somewhat proud to say that I have never once won due to school, work, and my general inability to deal with life like a normal human being. I want to work hard and win this year, though! I spent Camp NaNo not winning either, but instead using the writing frenzies to outline and plan my November project this year.

Feel free to send me buddy requests, but tell me who you are so I don't accidentally block you!

Let's hear it for other NaNo participants! Tell us about your noveling history, your current project(s), and what we can do to help you get to 50K by the end of November smile

I am so excited for NaNoWriMo this year! I have been participating for the past few years. My first year, I don't think I actually wrote anything because I didn't do any outlining or anything of that nature. The year before last I managed to get halfway through, but due to school, I didn't finish it. Last year I had a lot of personal problems so I wasn't able to write anything for that year. Now, this year, I have a baby to care for, so I don't know how much I'm actually going to get done. I'd like to finish this year, but who knows? We'll just have to wait and see...

Go for it. The worst that can happen is that you don't get it finished. It beats not trying in the first place

I am working on my Vampire story this year. I don't usually do nano because it tends to conflict with my writing style, but since a friend wants to work with me on it this time figured I'd give it a go. I doubt I'll make the 50k but then word count isn't something I keep complete track of. I write my stories however long they want to be.

Oooh...this sounds so cool! But I know I would never be able to get done in time. sad
Well, maybe I could. I did come up with another idea I've been working on, but I doubt I could make it 50,000 words. :s

Go for it! The worst that can happen is that you don't hit 50k. And that's fine~ It will get you writing.

And another problem is...you have to make an account. I don't have an email. :S
