I thought I'd try post one on a monthly basis. This will allow folks to discuss the exercise as well as try it out.
Clearing the Mind Exercise #1
This is a very simple exercise I found helps with clearing my mind.
1) Sit in a quiet, comfortable place. Make sure it is a comfortable enough position to sit for a while but not so comfortable you fall asleep cat_sweatdrop
2) Close your eyes, then inhale through your nose. Make a point to inhale for 3 counts. Note how your body reacts to inhalation. Does your chest rise? Your belly? What are your shoulders doing when you inhale? The rest of your body?
3) Hold your breath for 3 more counts. During this time focus only on your breath. What does your body do when you hold your breath? Does it tense up? If so, where? Is it possible to relax? If so, what happens? Do you go limp? Do you lower your shoulders?
4) Exhale for 3 counts. Note what your body does when you exhale. Does your chest sink in? Your belly? Do your shoulders lower?
5) Check in to see how you feel. If you still have racing thoughts, tension, or any thought but the focus on yourself in the present moment, repeat.
