The Kingdom of Hyrule

Characterized by iconic pointed ears, the Hylians are undoubtedly one of the most well known races in the world. The Hylians are one of the most widespread empires, with nearly every race politically connected to them in some way. They are a reasonable race, but rather self important. This is explained quite simply, their religious texts put them as the 'chosen race' of the Goddesses. Whether they have divine rights or not, the Hylians command the will and the power to enact their desire to command and control the aspects of Hyrule through both their strong culture culture and military might. The use of magic is relatively normal among this race, minor spells being known by many citizens of the empire. Their power does not come without a price, their empire is quite simply racist toward anyone that isn't Hylian. This makes them tend to get into military conflicts quite easily. Social conflicts, as well, whether they mean to or not.

Ordona Province

The Ordonians are a humanoid race that are often mistaken for Hylians at first glance. Upon closer inspection, one notices that they lack the pointy ears of Hylians and instead have rounded ones. The origin of the Ordonians is unknown, though many claim that at one time they were Hylians, while others say they are the descendants of the lost Kingdom of Ikana. Whatever the case, Ordonians are able to have children with Hylians, though the birth always results in a child with rounded ears. For this reason marriages between Hylians and Ordonians are treated carefully, as fear of the Hylians being exterminated via breeding is all too common. The Ordonians themselves are more a more simple people then the Hylians, and are well known for their vast farming nation to the south of Hyrule. While they acknowledge the Goddesses, the chief deity of the Ordonians is the mysterious goat-like being known as Ordona, hence the origin of their name. They grow crops and breed both goats and horses that are then sold to a vast majority of Hyrule's other races, particularly the Hylians.

Roughly three years after the Final Struggle, Hyrule invaded the smaller area and asserted their authority over the farmers and horsemen. Now a territory of Hyrule, there are many political dissenters to the Ordonian's new rulers, and in the past seven years, there have been three armed rebellions against Hyrule, all meeting the same bloody end. Political strain has been growing worse between the unwilling servants and their conquerors. As a result of their political dissent, the Ordonians are no longer allowed to have a military force of their own, relying on Hylian Guards and their own (very) small militias.

Sheikah Cadre

To the untrained eye, the average Sheikah may often be mistake for a Hylian. This is largely due in part to the fact that they look exactly like the Hylians, save their notable red eyes. The origin of the Sheikah remain a closely guarded secret, though many believe they may be the last of the pure blooded ancient Hylians. The fact that Sheikah are religiously concerned with their bloodline and mating with other races is forbidden raises such beliefs. Other then this, virtually nothing is known of the Sheikah because they are a secretive people. From a young age they are indoctrinated into assassin training, and their bodies forced against their natural growth to instead allow maximum flexibility. Every Sheikah is a professional killer, tracker, spy, detective, and rightfully feared by all should one appear in public.

The Sheikah Cadre have become far more prevalent in recent years, and rumors spring up everywhere concerning them. Many believe that they are the secret police of the Kingdom of Hyrule. They are commonly seen working in teams working in no more than groups of five, are rarely ever in the middle of broad daylight. They are usually seen off in the shadows of any scene, watching with their brethren. They are far from opposed to working with other nationalities, just nobody should expect them to be liberal with information of any kind, and tend to leave once your use is over, or attempt murder. Though, if you can make a strong impact on them, or if they owe you a favor, consider yourself among the luckiest in the world.

Zora Dominion

The Zora are an elder race who's origin traces back to the times of ancient Hylians. They are an aquatic species that resemble humanoid fish but while they display many characteristics of aquatic life they also have vestigial mammalian traits (such as female chests) that imply they might have had mammalian ancestors. Some scholars believe the Zora might have originally been an artificial cross of the feral River Zola and Hylians of ancient times. Regardless, the Zora are a fairly dominant force in Hyrule. They admire physical beauty above all else, and believe themselves physically superior to all life. An average Zora spends most of their life forcing their body to grow into certain forms through the use of constraints and manipulation. As a result most Zora are unnaturally thin and graceful, and they have little tolerance for any Zora who does not abide by this custom. The Zora's need for appearing perfect reflects in their military force as well. Their soldiers usually are outfitted to look more imposing rather then fight and perform effectively, and most of their armor, weapons, and outfits are designed for form over function. They also have a natural advantage in the water, an advantageous trait none of the other races can claim to have.

In recent years, the Zora have had several long conflicts with the Kindom of Hyrule over their smaller province of Lanaryu, populated by a race of half breeds, half Zora and half Hylian. There are frequent border conflicts between the two great Empires. At this point, they are at peace, but who knows how much longer this will be?

Lanaryu Province

Centuries ago the Hylians progressed north of their Kingdom and arrived at the northern shores of the land where they met communities of Zora. Rather then force the Zora out through conflict, these Hylians made peace and began to coexist with the Zora. This peaceful relationship grew quite far over time, and before long many Hylians were taking Zoras as mates and creating hybrid offspring of both peoples. When word of this reached the Zora Dominion, they were appaled and considered the act an abomination. Laws were enforced and the inter racial marriages were banned from there on out. Regardless of these restrictions, the modern day Zora of Lanayru are remnants of those half breed ancestors, and throughout the ages Hylians and Zoras have managed to give birth to hybrids under the noses of enforcers. Unlike pure blooded Zoras, the Lanayru Zora display pupiled eyes and usually adorn fins along their heads. Because of the unnatural Hylian mix the head fins are as unique as fingerprints for each Zora. Lanayru Zora skin color also varies widely, those that inherit more Zora traits tend to be more blue like pure blooded Zora, while those that inherit more Hylian traits tend to be more reddish or pink in hue.

In recent times, the Lanaryu have been growing restless. Regardless of the peace between those of Lanayru, the Hylians, and the Zora, the pure bloods of both races look down upon those of Lanayru. Members of both races that wish to live with the lovers of the other race also tire of being repressed by authority. Unrest in Lanyru is growing, and in secret they are preparing an army should they need to win their right and independence by force. Because Lanayru sits on some of the largest rupee mines in Hyrule, the rising rebellion is able to fund a vast army with ease. Unfortunately because their cause only applies to those tired of being repressed, their fighters are mostly composed of young and untrained hopefuls who have seen little or no war.

Gerudo

The Gerudo are an ancient people, whom at one point in history had a vast and powerful empire. Over time various warlords of their race began to quarrel amongst themselves to the point where their conflict spread to other races. Seeing the potential in the Gerudo, the Moblin King Ganon offered them a place in his dominion as servants. The selfish warlords rejected his offer and declared war on the Moblins. As a result, King Ganon poisoned the Gerudo bloodline by unknown means so that the Gerudo would never give birth to a male. After several decades the male population of the Gerudo died off, leaving only their females in a desperate situation to restore their race. The answer to their problems were the vast resources that the neighboring land of Hyrule provided, but unfortunately the Hylians were not so welcoming of the Gerudo. As a result of their incursion, the Gerudo and Hylians entered a long period of hostility. Being a culture from a harsh land, the Gerudo themselves are a harsh people in a fight. They prefer to fight on horseback and with bows, and as such they are superior in the field of archery when in a fight. Being raised in a desert however has left them with little need for armor, and most Gerudo wear simple outfits with little protection. Despite the lack of Gerudo durability, they are very potent in battle and should never be underestimated.

In recent years, perhaps because of the final death of Gannon, the poisoning of the male bloodline has gone away, and the males have returned. The Gerudo are flourishing again, and their civilization is being once again rebuilt, much to the dismay of their Hylian neighbors. This dismay is for fear of their war with their neighbors to the west, for their strength had always been having greater numbers.

Kokiri Villages

The Kokiri are a cautious, child-like and secretive race native to Kokiri Forest. They are nearly timeless beings that seem to retain an eternal youth, although recently, they have stopped physically aging once they look to be 16. On average they can live to be around 2,000 years olds, and afterwards become guardians of the forest known as Koroks.
The guardian of the Kokiri is the Great Deku Tree, an ageless being that is the life of the forest. It governs the life of the forest and ensures the safety of its inhabitants. Each Kokiri has a guardian fairy that functions as a friend, parent and teacher. The Kokiri are known as "the spirits of the forest, and many choose to never leave their home, for if they do, they will begin to age normally. Their origins are disputed, as some believe the Great Deku Tree created them, and others believe they are Hylians who became ensnared in forest magic. For centuries, they have avoided contact with the outside world, and only have dealt with interior affairs. Such affairs involve the construction of homes within the trees around them, development of forest weaponry, and even the learning of unique forest magics.

As of now, the Kokiri are a nation whose power is anything but meagre. While they choose to not war outside of the forest, they have learned to create various forms of weaponry, and there has even been more talk of possibly getting involved in foreign diplomacy.

Labrynna Regime

Far to the east of Hyrule the lands of Labrynna and Holondrum have remained largely unaffected by the bloody and savage wars of the past. In the southeastern reaches of this stable land the Labrynnians have developed peacefully for centuries, only having to fend off smaller tribes of hostile natives to expand their empire. The average Labrynnians looks similar to Hylians, though their ears have a much more vertical tilt to them. It is theorized that they may have been Hylian colonists that traveled far east in some ancient time, though there is no proof left to link the two races. Regardless, Labrynna's people have always been fueled to find knowledge, and their level of technology is above that of the medieval races to the west. They have managed to harness the power of hydraulics through the use of geysers, and as such steam is an important aspect of their machinery. Their most infamous invention however is that of gunpowder. Labrynna's armies are all equipped with these deadly firearms that can down an enemy force from a tremendous distance. This technological superiority gives the Labrynnians a huge edge when fighting from a distance. Despite the miracle of their guns however, they have a long reload time from which a prepared army can bridge the gap and charge into melee. At this point, the Labrynnians are not the best sword fighters in the land and tend to be bested by the more brutal medieval races. While they might not fair well in a bloody melee, one must respect and always beware of the Labrynnaian's signature weapons of death.

In the years since the Final Struggle, Labrynna has opened it's borders, quickly becoming a nation of powerful trade, but keeping close track of their gunpowder. They have maintained a strong standing army of Labrynnian citizens and enslaved their neighboring nation, the Tokei. The Labrynna is now a rising power in Hyrule, they are regularly at war with the Lizfalos, and are a constant pain to their outlying colonies.

Gorons

A proud and powerful race, the Gorons are composed of mineral and rock rather than flesh and bone. Native to the Death Mountain range, their deadly and harsh homeland has molded them into a strong people. Gorons prefer things simple and easy, and are content to just live a relaxed and peaceful life. Despite this, Gorons love to fight under honorable pretense. Wrestling and fist fights are all common forms of recreation in their society. Even though they are not warlike, this interest in combat has aided the Gorons well in their past, most notably when the Zora Dominion attempted to invade and annex Death Mountain for its valuable gems and resources. The Gorons drove the Zora out in a bloody skirmish, and let the races of Hyrule know that fighting a war with the Gorons is a costly mistake. In battle the Gorons embody power. Most of their soldiers are very strong in a fist fight, and even stronger if have a weapon in hand. They are also well armored, and taking down a Goron is difficult unless they are outnumbered. Their bulky size and relaxed nature has left them fewer in number and slow on foot though. Despite their lethargy, no one will deny the power of a well placed Goron punch to the face.

Darknut Legion

The Darknuts (the Gerudo word for Cliff Lords) are an old race that originated from the mountain ranges west and south of the Gerudo desert. They are an ancient people, predated only by races of legend such as the Oocca and Fairies. In the past their civilization almost fell apart through civil warfare, and conflicts with border races such as the Gerudo and Moblins nearly resulted in the extinction of their race. Facing the end of their people the warring leaders decided to put aside their differences and declared that from there on out every single Darknut would be trained to be a disciplined and unstoppable warrior at adolescence. After devising a rigorous code from which to follow, the Darknut Legion and its infamous armored warriors were born. From an early age Darknuts are trained to wield the best armor, the biggest swords, and maintain the highest order of discipline to preserve their creed. Darknut philosophy places focus on the individual: if one soldier cannot master himself then it is impossible for him to function in a group. For this reason Darknuts often prefer to fight alone in engagements, leaving their comrades to their own devices when fighting against groups. When assembled into an army, the Darknuts are without a doubt the single most powerful force to walk Hyrule. Their main disadvantage though, is the relatively small number of their children to survive the rigorous training that they go through. Though, every child that becomes a full warrior is truly the best their race has to offer.

In recent years, the Darknut Legion have been more frequently seen in the world. Battle groups selling themselves as mercenaries have cropped up for whoever can meet their high prices to buy their loyalty. The money is well spent though, for they may come in low numbers, they can easily kill up to ten times their number. They are mainly seen alongside their long time allies the Gerudo and the Moblins because of ancient oaths sworn centuries ago, but it is no longer uncommon to see them working for factions that frequently hire mercenaries. In addition to selling out as mercenaries, their culture has begun to spread, with several people from other nationalities journeying to pledge themselves to the Darknut Code and learn their ways, forsaking their citizenship, and hopefully, becoming a fully realized warrior. Or die trying.
