A thousand years ago, the goddesses Aerona and Resshinu, sisters, but opposite in nearly every respect, warred on Kunaria. They each had massive armies built from the people of the continent. Some joined by choice, but most were forced to one side or the other by the goddesses themselves. Their forces clashed on the Bleeding Plains, then named the Great Plains, tens of thousands being lost on both sides. Werewolves and vampires fought angels and demons, dragons and harpies fought sea serpents and sirens. It was absolute chaos. Once only a scant few hundred soldiers were left to witness it, Aerona and Resshinu dueled. Their opposing powers clashed in perfect equilibrium, time after time again. They may have fought for eternity if not for a white-haired little girl who fearlessly placed herself between the goddesses and gave her life to make them see the error of their ways.
The two goddesses convened with the survivors and debated on how to manage their subjects. Resshinu had wanted absolute freedom for them, whereas Aerona had wanted a strict set of moral rules and obligations for each and every being to follow. They compromised with a loose rule, which allowed the goddesses to check each other's power, indirectly, and yet still regulate the actions of the populace.
The name of the Great Plains was changed to the Bleeding Plains, and was declared sacred ground by the goddesses. They helped the mortals rebuild for a decade, then retreated to rule from their perches on the two great mountains of the continent. Aerona from Lumen Mountain in the west, and Resshinu from Kurai Mountain in the east. Aerona ruled over lightning, wind, order, water, light, purity, and love. Resshinu ruled over earth, chaos, fire, darkness, corruption, and lust.
All was well in Kunaria for the next thousand or so years, and the continent remained in a stable balance between the two extremes. But suddenly and without warning, a month ago, the country was invaded by a country that had been scientifically advancing while Kunaria had been content with their old way of life. They had sent jets and shock troops from the east, to attack the capital city of Salience. They were only barely defeated by a few mercenaries that had just happened to be in Salience at the time. Eventually, they were pushed back to their base of operations on Armory Island, and the people pray for their guardians to aid them. The goddesses remain eerily silent, many people have lost faith, and Kunaria's resistance weakens by the day. Has something happened to the goddesses? Will you fight with the Kunarians to defend their homeland, or the invaders who seek the nation's resources and magical power? Only time will tell, and in the meantime, the war rages on.....
