So I'm going to be compiling a nice little (or big, size is to be determined) tutorial on roleplaying. You're probably thinking "Well, that's great Violet, what's your question?" Well, I'll get on with it then. What topics would you like to see covered in the tutorial? Literacy levels and one sentence posting has already been suggested and will make an appearance. You have until Saturday September 30th. Just post here in the thread. It could be anything. If you aren't sure or just need clarification or struggle, just say the word.

Come on, nobody else has suggestions? Don't be afraid to ask. I may be evil, but I'm not cruel.

evil? Never thought of you as evil lady Violet.
Lets see...
Talking about interaction with other players being greater than a large detailed post just about your character.
Quantity is great but not always necessary, quality always counts more.
For fight scenes time out your actions to see if they would fit correctly.
If in a fight scene with another player character, set yourself a time limit on actions so the other person can move to help you. (This one I can be bad at if I don't remind myself)
Flaws make greater character developments than strengths, because a weakness is something to over come in the face of adversity.
Sometimes being the side character can be more fun or more desired for your character. Remember some of the most beloved characters in entertainment are not always the heroes.
Hows that?

That's cause you're never in Chatzy. Which might be a good thing. XD And that's awesome! Gracias! :3

lol maybe xd
no problem oh, on more quick idea. Cover the various Mary Sue character ideas. I once read a wonderful post talking about several kinds of Mary Sue style characters each showing an all to overly done idea that over powers a character either physically, mentally, emotionally, or just takes the spot light from everyone else. If I can remember where I saw it I'll try posting the link if it is an area that I can do so from.
edit:
Wow I feel brilliant. You know why I remember that list...its because Anbu posted it lol. It's in our RoR sigh sweatdrop

Perhaps you can go over profiling. Meaning, creating a character. As Violet said, weaknesses are important but often people seem to give little flaws to their characters.
Carefully reading others posts is important, and many people just skim over it. On top of this, many people disregard what is said. In theatre, I was always taught the number one rule of Roleplaying was "Don't discredit the other player." Obvious example: "The red car." "Are you blind? The car is blue." Less obvious example: "'I love him,' Janey thought." "'Do you love me?" I hate when I make my character think something and another player acts on my thoughts. Unless your character is a mind-reader, this shouldn't happen.
Consistent point of view is important.
Uhhh, uhmmm, uhhhh. Post styles? There's not that many resources out there to teach how to make pretty post styles. Sure, it's not the most important thing in the world, but it should be easier to find if you're interested to learn.

Except, I may not include so much on post styles, since those are actually provided most, if not all the time for official roleplayers. However, they aren't always supplied for the events, and it's good to have anyways

Violet the Maestro Good ones. Except, I may not include so much on post styles, since those are actually provided most, if not all the time for official roleplayers. However, they aren't always supplied for the events, and it's good to have anyways I was referring to learning how to create your own post styles instead of having them made for you and etc. However, you're probably right about there being a lot of resources on it. When I first had to learn a few years ago, there wasn't much, but that's probably changed. sweatdrop

Good idea, Violet! Everything that's been suggested is amazing. I love making the flaws and the imperfections. I like to make my characters stupid and give them mistakes and a bit of the "act first, think later" qualities that humans have. It's a little harder to do in RP, since we know what's happening and we have complete control. Sometimes it is hard to work out those impulses. It just really irks me when I read a post where the character is carefully analyzing and making the right decisions in the situation, even though a human put in the situation would react totally differently. (especially if the character's profile says "impulsive" on it. -.- )
Another thing I'd like the add is Godmodding. It's always put as a no-no in the rules section, but it's always done. Especially if you're in the middle of a fight and you didn't plan it out before. It irks me to no end when I try to make my character have his or her flaw and misses in the fight, but the other character always manages to bounce back and attack and HIT. Never has the character been hit, and even if the character has been, they'd just make something fancy up to fix it and attack and HIT.
That's the biggest no-no ever. So, yeah, I'd like to point it out.
Another thing I'd like to add is what KissMeHappy said: Reading thoughts
In a RP, the characters are not mind-readers (with the exception of a role of a mind-reader, of course). Therefore, minds are not read if they are not said outright. I have slipped up a few times in my own history where I forgot the thing was said in a thought, or in the profiles. But I always try the hardest to act ignorant to thoughts. However, acting ignorant does not mean, like KissMeHappy said, asking a question based off of the thought. That is the same as mind-reading. No.
Ahh, I think that's all I have. Maybe some literacy levels clarification (ex. non-lit, Semi-lit, Lit., Adv. Lit.?) And (like KissMeHappy said again), post styles would be nice.
I tend to find the post styles with random colours and paragraphs of symbols forming words and mismatching pictures and etc. really annoying. Even if they are provided, I think it should be nice to know. Just in case your room needs someone to make posting styles? Also, with quotes and lyrics and additional things, you should keep that to a minimum. I see a lot of post styles in even adv. lit. where there are 5 quotes and basically the whole song in the layout, with 318438 pictures of the girl/guy and you have trouble find the words. And when you do find the words, they're all in an annoying bright purple. ><
My tips for posting styles are dull/comforting colours. If you do want a splash of bright colour, tone it down with a gray or etc. And text should never ever be in a bright, hard to read colour. I like using darks and grays for text. Speech can be played with, but text should never be in light pink because it's just annoying to read and hard on the eyes.
So yeah. That was my rant. o: Sorry if it was harsh or anything. That is just the things that irks me a lot in RPs. And sorry it's so long! ^^;;

Godmodding was actually something I already included. Nothing ticks me off more than a godmodder. Well, when it comes to roleplaying anyways. And this is good. :3
