~Psalm 31:19
The thought...
Consider for a moment the abundant goodness that God has graciously worked on your behalf. Though you were dead in your sins and trespasses, God in His astounding mercy did not hand you over to well-deserved judgment, but instead made you the object of extravagant kindness through the work of His Son. You have been saved from hell, and if that were the only blessing you ever received, it would be enough to praise God for eternity. But He did not stop there, for the Father has determined to now bless all who take refuge in Christ “with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places.” It is the good pleasure of our heavenly Father, for the rest of our lives and for all eternity, to demonstrate “the immeasurable greatness of His power toward us who believe.”
In light of all this gospel truth, marvel at the abundant goodness that God still has stored up for you. He has promised to work all things together for your good, to bring to completion every good work begun in you, and to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of His glory with great joy. What more could He possibly do for us? Our lives have been immersed in fathomless kindness, covered with amazing grace, and sustained with omnipotent love. Oh, how great is His goodness, which He has stored up for those who fear Him!
The prayer...
Heavenly Father, How abundant is Your goodness, how inexpressible Your love! Who am I, that I should be the object of such undeserved affection? Thank you for Your protecting, sustaining, providing nail-pierced hands that ever supply me with everything I need for life and godliness. Give me faith to trust You at all times, knowing that in Christ, you are for me, not against me.
