~~*By Sage and Bone*~~Hello Everyone, and Merry Meet!
This thread is place to talk about the darker side of witchcraft/paganism. In this thread, we will talk about working with ones own dark energies to help them discover who they are and become strong as a person. It will talk of embracing the darker side of life, while also working in the light. It will also talk about working with bones, skulls, furrs, or other animal parts in ritual/spellwork.
I do not believe in conjuring demonic forces, or casting a spell on people as soon as they have wronged you in some way. I am not opposed to learning about it SO it can be discussed here.
Whatever you feel fits the category of dark paganism/witchcraft, can go here. Everyone's definition is different. Some would say that it's working with demonic forces, necromancy and the like. I however, do not. But that's okay smile
Also, if anyone knows of Shadow Work (If you look it up on YT there are a LOT of vids on it) please post about that too. It's something I'm just recently starting.
and please, I know that this topic can be touchy to some, especially those who work mostly with the lighter side of things and that's okay. But please don't tell anyone they are wrong for their beliefs, just like you wouldn't in any other thread in this wonderful guild smile
Also...sorry for the extremely long intro lol

The Shadow Within
shadowcouncil:
Shadow work encourages the witch/pagan to reveal the mysteries of themselves, to discover the truths of ones spirit, light and dark, in Unity. It is a strive towards self awareness, of who we really are, and becoming empowered by that knowledge. It is a striving towards ones original and true spiritual state, past all self imposed delusions and deception and glamour, past social [and self] conditioning and gender separation, etc…towards our very Purity and innocence of the soul… uncovering… to be, in Truth!
The Witch who works with the Shadow, focuses upon revealing the mysteries that lie within their personal Underworld [unconscious], facing their Shadow Self, all that which is denied, shamed, feared or simply unknown. We seek to merge the Shadow Self with the light [conscious], transforming ourselves with that knowledge that we may become a more aware and “whole” being.
Dedicated towards self exploration and dealing with core personal issues or ‘complexes’, facing our personal “demons” and coming to terms with them. The ‘Work’ is to own these things within ourselves in both their bright and dark aspects, to become aware of how these things drive and distort our actions and ways of being in this world… to come to understand ourselves honestly. Modes of thinking must be re-thought and mental boundaries must be redefined… so we may free ourselves from our self-created prisons!
We look into our Shadow and willingly face the darkness along with the light, within ourselves, within nature, and within the Divine! The Darkness is as much a part of us as is the Light, and only as a whole and balanced being are we able to truly know ourselves and our power.
In all things there must be a balance. Those who follow a path of the Dark Mysteries, who walk the path of the Underworld, achieve one of the most powerful transitions for a Witch, something we call ‘the Great Balance’. We cannot fully claim our power until we have achieved this ‘Great Balance’.
Like the Descent of Kore/Persephone, the Descent of Inanna, and many other Divine Descents… we too must descend into our Underworld, to truly understand ourselves and be transformed… Embrace your darkness, and you shall heal, awaken, empower, and transform…
Know Thyself… Work deep within the shadows of your soul… Untangle the dark web of your mind/psyche… The enlightenment thy spirit seeks is found not in the light, but in the illuminating of your darkness… Remember your Darkness, and know that healing, strength, power, and wisdom can be found there.
Blessings, Shay x

I personally feel that what constitutes as dark is fairly subjective. That said, I like Waite's idea of defining black magic as "anything for personal gain". It personally brings some perspective to whatever I'm doing, and if I'm willing to pay any price that may occur from what I do. Am I really casting a healing spell to help the person, or am I casting a healing spell so the person will stay in my life despite how it may not be for the best. If it's the latter, am I willing to possibly deal with how I've prolonged a person's suffering? It provides the perspective I need to do what I feel is best.

I think of "Black Magick" as something that will benefit yourself greatly ... So I try and find ways to "grey it up" so to speak.
For example... I need money to pay off some debt. Well I didn't do a spell to win the Powerball last Saturday (though I would have loved that Jackpot). However, I can do a spell that will help me find a full-time job with reasonable pay (I'm not getting jipped, or paid too much), and hopefully with benefits to provide for my daughter, and in a decent working environment.
As much as I would have loved to curse the father of my child-to-be, I decided to follow a different approach as well. I sent to him dreams of what he would be missing out on, and what he was abandoning, but letting him know that there was still hope for him to man up and take care of his daughter. He started calling me two weeks after the spell was cast, apologizing for splitting, and telling me that he was trying to get a job, and asking what I was planning on doing in terms of child support and court. He is always asking how I am feeling, and if she is ready to come out and into the world yet.
