He looks out over the land, taking in the breeze. Today was the day that the renovations to the Seireitei were completed. As such, he sent out an invite to his new captain of squad 11. He misses his old friends and companions in the Gotei 13, but he figures he should try to make good with the new captains and soul reapers. Earlier he sent out a message in the form of a hell butterfly to the new captain known as Koneko. The message told her to meet him at the Squad 10 gardens, and so he waits. I wonder, he thinks what kind of person this captain is?  "I must know why."

Koneko padded along flower beds in the Squad 10 gardens. The hell butterfly had relayed a message from a Captain Shimizu that he wanted to meet her. She stopped walking, glanced around looking for him. She covered her spiritual pressure, and continued on her journey. I hate not knowing what he's like. It's confusing.There atop one of the towers stood a lone figure. That must be him!

He raised his hand as a visor to his eyes to block out the setting sun and verified one last time that this was indeed the one he had wanted to meet. He had sent all the lower members of the squad off to the bar for a party, all so he could have some time with this new captain. Shimizu did not directly meet the captains he chose for the job as leaders. Instead, he merely looks at the applications that were sent in and decided the best candidates. This would be his test. "Well, there's no time to waste." He said as he tipped over the edge of the tower and began to fall like a meteor through the atmosphere. He rocketed down, and then with a CRASH he landed a mere foot away from the captain, causing a small crater to appear below them. "Hello there. My name is Shimizu D. Kazuma, but you can just call me Shimizu." He smiled."I must know why."

"Impressive entrance, Shimizu."Koneko looked the Head Captain up and down. "My name is Kenpachi Koneko Yumi, also known as Kenpachi, Koneko, and Captain Yumi. You can call me Kenpachi or Koneko, whatever suits you." She noted he would be a worthy and fun battle opponent, if they ever were to battle. "Do you know Shimizu," she said while sitting down in the grass, "that you should never misjudge your opponent? That very mistake could be fatal." She looked up at him imploringly. "Aren't you going to sit down, Head Captain?" She said with a sarcastically large smile.

Flashing through his mind were scenes of his defeat at the hands of a former Arrancar, and then friend. He knew all too well to never misjudge an opponent. "No, I'd rather stand." He said as he moved to the nearby cherry blossom tree and propped himself against it. "So, Koneko, what made you want to apply for a captain's position?" He asked with a raised eyebrow."I must know why."

Koneko saw Shimizu's shock in his eyes, and knew something had gone wrong in his past, and decided never to ask him about it. His emotions were far too easy to read. "...what made you want to apply for a captain's position?" Shimizu asked. Koneko plucked an unfortunate flower out of the ground. "What made me want to apply for this position?" She knew she had to choose her words carefully, or her feelings would slide, and she would plunge into a weak state. "Let's see. When I was young, my parents were killed by Arrancars. As you probably know, I was forced to live on my own as the head of the royal family. I went to the Soulreaper Academy, got in, and trained. I was made fun of for my dreams to be Squad 11's Captain one day, because I was a girl and I was short. Until I got to be Lieutenant of Squad 11 for a while, until my Captain had a freak accident. And then, I decided this was my time, so I applied." Koneko sniffed the flower as a signal she was done with her minor speech. "Was that enough history?"

He moved from his rest and approached Koneko. "You say Arrancars killed your family? Is that why you joined? For revenge?" He came to a halt beside her and awaited her answer."I must know why."

Koneko looked him in the eyes. "No. That's not why I joined. Not at all." She stood up quickly and hopped up to the second branch on the cherry blossom. "Tell me, Shimizu, do you love what you do?"

"Yes..and no...I was entrusted by my late master to this place to protect. And not just this place, but also the World of the Living. Through my years as Head Captain..I have faced success...failure...gain and loss, and even the complete destruction of this place. In a way...I failed my master, but here I am rebuilding from scratch to fix things." He turned towards her. "Why do you ask such a thing?""I must know why."

Koneko, looked down at him from her branch, smiling a Cheshire Cat grin. "The answer is simple. I love what I do. I love fights, combat, and revenge. I like when an actual opponent shows up." She swung her legs from the branch. "And I especially like the fights," she said as she hopped down from the branch and stood behind Shimizu, "the ones that I have a chance at losing." She walked off towards the direction of the gates, leaving a scent of cherry blossoms behind her.

In a split second, there he was, directly in front of her; looking with eyes that did not quite seem like his. "I suppose you DO need a test then. After all, I can't just let anybody be captain." A breeze blew around them as the sun made its final gaze upon the land."I must know why."

Koneko smiled. "Yes. Like you. I love what I do. DO you love what you do?" She turned, looking away from the eyes that told stories. "A test for me?"

Who are you speaking to, hmm?" He started taking steps toward her to fill the space. "It is simple really. You were accepted into the Gotei 13 merely by your application and background. You've yet to have a proper test." He spoke as he continued moving towards her. "I must know why."

Koneko glared at him. How dare he try and mock her! She stepped towards him. "The real test is how long you can stay in that stupid form without catching me." She smirked. "Let's play a game, shall we?"
