I recently decided to purchase WoW, along with all expansions up to Cataclysm (sweet deal for only $20!), and I have a few questions about WoW for everyone here. I was wondering which class would best complement each race and what profession would best complement each class? I'm pretty sure Gnome would be the best for Mage or Worlock right? I'm unsure of the rest. I also wanted to know what are some good servers to play on? I always end up pick poopy servers for some reason lol.

P.S. Any tips about WoW would be awesome, I'm a first time player

Hi there, and welcome to Azeroth! When you're picking your race, be sure to read up on racial abilities (there will be a helpful little paragraph or two on the character creation page). Sure, some races are better suited for some classes, but the racial abilities don't make a dramatic enough difference. I've never thought it was worth the trouble to pick a race solely based on the racial abilities (of course, I almost always play as Undead, 'cause the new starting area is just rockin'!)
Your server choice is going to depend on the sort of gameplay you're looking for. PvE servers don't automatically flag you for pvp, so you aren't going to have an enemy player running up and smashing your face in (as often, anyway). PvP servers DO flag you automatically every time you enter a "contested" zone. RP servers are supposed to focus on roleplaying (though they aren't very strict about that anymore.)
Aside from the types, some servers have communities that are just more focused on certain things. If you want to focus on hardcore raiding at max-level, you would probably pick Illidan over Moonguard. If you're more into pvp, Tichondrius or Darkspear might be more your style. Every server has quirks and issues, including assholes, so that's something to keep in mind. If you have any friends that play ask them about their servers! The game is tons more fun with friends.

The game has a sweet feature now that lets you chat with friends cross-realm and cross-faction called Real-ID. Mine is Janeyklivian@gmail.com, feel free to add me if you have any other questions! I might not know the answer (especially about alliance-specific issues) but I don't mind helping!

Thank you for this it helps a lot! I'm mostly looking for a PvE server, and I actually don't have any friends who are currently playing the game. I'm joining the game with a friend (WoW Noob as well) and we are planning on duo'ing most of the content together. Do you have any class advice as for what two classes would best complement each other?

If you were to play together I would suggest one of you is either a healer or a dps that can heal (Priest, Druid, Pally, Shammy) so you don't die as often.

when my friend used to play we would roll pally and druid the two hybrid classes since both can be any spec healer, tank, or dps. and u guys wont be fighting over gear since one wears leather the other mail/plate. worked pretty good
