Both Seekyr, the eighth prince of Unterheim, and Ballista, the knight of night, were aware of the impenetrable vault in the Eight Principality. Inscribed on its door was a poem, in what seemed to be runes long forgotten.
However, Seekyr, with the help of his brother Dreladinir, and Ballista, with the help of a scholar he kidnapped from the fourth principality, discovered that the runes were not quite any language, though there were similarities to elven, and were a puzzle.
Because of this a direct translation was impossible, but the following is as close as it gets in Bravisian:
Come old friend and hear my tale,
Of swords of fire, air, and hell.
Nine sages, nine blades,
Changing each generation.
Nine elements to gather,
Hidden 'cross the nations.
Frostbite, chilling cold, you will find
In the waters of the sea-lake.
Spitfire and brimstone boil mer and sea,
In the leviathan's lair it will boil thee.
Yu Rdek, stone, hammer and home,
Resides in the palace woods the elves roam.
Ajura's might, electric and hot,
Rests in the grasp of blue eyes forgot.
God's breath, the wind, in you, you carry.
Know it is coveted, be wary.
The siren's song, the siren still sings,
Clutched in her grasp with her husband's wedding ring.
Holy light and the heart of night, two unlikely brothers
Each more at home, where the other waits.
One in Ajura's warmth, the other in Nocturne's court,
With kings and marquises they lay.
Bring these children of mine to my vault,
When you have found our key.
Under the world it waits for you,
Destruction's greatest weapon.
After all we've forgotten charade,
Remember me.
The final runes were not part of the poem, but the signature of Aspen Nialldotter, the first great sage of destruction.
(This is set after Ballista appears in WJ so Seekyr and Ballista each have one blade and Ballista is aware that the one in Meloria is gone. Let the games begin...)
