Make your own thread and post your profiles in it.
For role plays that want to be their 'own' thing you may set up a forum in this sub section and have a link to it telling others to post their profiles in there for the specific role play.
About the main 6? No one will be assigned the main 6 so anyone can have a chance to play one of them in a role play. If a role play allows the main 6 in it please list who is what character in the role play introduction or somewhere it can be seen.
This will allow anyone to play their fav character at some point :3
So do not make a profile of a Character from MLP If you wish to be a Canon or anything like that PM the maker of the role play saying you are interested in being that character. The maker of the role play will decided from there.
Princess Celestia and Princess Luna apply to that rule unless the creator of the role play says they are playing the roles then they are, if the maker says someone can apply for the role then so be it.
