Name:
Yugure Ousama
Age:
18 at death, 723 at Resurrection. From his resurrection, his physical age picked up where he died and he seems to also age like a normal mortal.
Species:
Tanuki / Revenant
Powers / Skills:
--Partial Transformation :: He can shift from a physical specter to the appearance on having a normal body and his deep blue form turns into a Yakuta and wears ordinary Geta on his feet. When in this form, a pattern appears of midnight blue tree branches grows from the bottom hem all the way to the sleeves. He will take this form more often in times of seriousness.
--Spectral Form :: When in this transformed state, Yugure can move as fast as if he were holding his blade in his normal form. This form also allows him to glide over the ground and allow small objects to pass through him, such as bullets. However he cannot pass through solid walls. Yugure does not like to be in this form but will admit that it has its uses.
--Soul-Bound Weapon :: At any time Yugure can pull from his sleeve a sheathed Katana made with the shosu kitae style of forging and whose blade is Ash White in color but is still made of the purest tamahagane. The sword is spiritually bonded with Yugure so if either one of them is destroyed or dies, the other half will also be destroyed or die. When wielding the blade, the user will experience increased speed and strength.
--Physical Presence :: Despite being a Revenant or Ghost as some would call him, Yugure is as physical and mortal as any average living being.
--Weapon Prowess :: Yugure is a master of the katana based martial art: style Iaido.
--Will-o-Wisp :: Yugure is able to create five small spheres of blue fire that can be used to spark small fires when only using one or an entire ring of flame if all five spheres are used. They will only burn what Yugure wants them to burn.
Personality:
-- Light-hearted and trusting of those who have earned his trust
-- Believes in Justice and will not let a crime he witnesses go unpunished
-- Will not provoke a fight but will end one if provoked himself
-- Slightly gullible as it is a common trait among Tanukis
-- Confused about the modern world and wishes to learn
Bio:
Yugure was born in the ancient times when honor and pride were the most important things to a man along with his social class. Having been born on some of the lower rings of society, the young Tanuki did not have many opportunities available to him. His only choices were to allow himself to suffer and die a weak man's death, become involved with the scum of the underground crime societies, or to prove his worth in order to serve the higher class lords. He trained himself to do just that third option. He would always sneak around through the more lavish cities to watch through the window of a dojo that practiced in Iaido. Everday he would practice with a Bokken at home all that he had witnessed during his sneaking around. Eventually he was caught by the head of the dojo but in quick and rash thinking, he made a deal saying that he would willfully allow himself to sent to jail unless he could challenge and win against the top student. If he won, the teacher would have to agree to take Yugure as a student. The teacher thought about it then agreed and became referee to the match, confident in his top student's...his son's abilities. It was a long and drawn out fight since the student thought it would be entertaining to underestimate a child from the lower rings of society. Yugure still pulled through the beating he was taking and instead of getting in hits in random locations like his opponent was, the young tanuki aimed for vital areas. The match ended with Yugure as the victor and the teacher upheld his end of the bargain.
In the following years, Yugure came to accept that since he was still and always would be of the lower class, he would never be able to become a true and honorable warrior, but he kept with his practices everyday for hours on end even when the teaching sessions ended and was soon on par with the teacher himself. Yugure was the elder fox's most prized pupil. In understanding of Yugure's grief, the teacher instead put in many good words for his student to become an assistant of a well known blacksmith. Yugure spent the following years still pracitcing and mastering Iaido, but gladly helping to create beautiful swords for warriors and great lords alike with his master. Eventually, his master who was just a big boned cat allowed Yugure to try and create his own blade. After many failed attempts, he had made one with the help of his master that the cat claimed to be "a perfect match to you soul". What Yugure did not know was that his master worked on it when the young tanuki slept and endowed it with the finest methods of forging and differential hardening. In the following year, a commission was received that a sword similar to Yugure's was to be made for an esteemed general of the Grand Emperor's army. One was made indeed, but Yugure's mother, who did not know about Yugure's own sword and was jealous of her son's rising status, stole the newly made katana. The general was furious and ordered her executed, but Yugure stepped in and claimed he had stolen it, not his mother. In her place and despite the pleads of Yugure's Iaido teacher and blacksmithing master, he was still to be executed. Only as a favor to them both was the Tanuki's execution to be a private one instead of public. When all was done and his body cremated, Yugure's master took the sword the two made for Yugure and some of the ash of his corpse and wrote a seal that would bound the soul and the item together in the afterlife and beyond.
Centuries later, due to ignorant old archaeologist's trifling with an ancient book found at burial site, he summoned spirits of the dead from the same graveyard. The graveyard was part of legend to be scattered with the ash of traitor, criminals, and murderers who have become to lowest of scum. Among the ones summoned was Yugure who, despite confused, went to the aid of the man and dispatched of the spirits, sending them back to the afterlife. However, in his confusion and sudden will to live, he destroyed the book just as the old archaeologist was trying to recite a spell to return the Resurrected Tanuki back to the land of the dead as well. The spell went awry when Yugure destroyed the book and instead of sending him back, it made the Tanuki mortal and free to roam.
Weaknesses:
--Yugure is as mortal and vulnerable as any living being even when in spectral form. He can also age and given enough time, will die of old age or natural causes.
--If the katana he carries is somehow destroyed, Yugure will also die and his soul will be destroyed thus also destroying any chance of being resurrected or reincarnated.
--If in Spectral Form, he cannot wield his katana, leaving him mostly defenseless. Any energy based attack will still harm him as well.
--The will-o-wisps will only burn for one minute before they extinguish themselves.
Extras:
--He has named his katana Yoake respectively in comparison with his own name.
--Currently he still wishes to become an honorable warrior though any good organization.
