I awoke in a cold sweat, eyes searching the darkness of the cave my friend and I resided in. I saw the dark outline of his form a little ways from me. But he was still. Eerily so. His chest was not rising and falling as I knew it should. I let out a whine. The only breaths I heard were my own. I tentatively nudged at him with a paw, recoiling instantly. Cold. Stiff. He was dead. Dead. He couldn't be dead. My Willow Root. My only friend. Why was he gone? Had he been ill? He couldn't have been. He was not much older than I was, right? Why, Willow, why? Why'd my Willow have to die?

These questions swirled in my muddled mind as panic began to overtake my being. My only friend in this world. Gone. Dead. I was alone... I pawed at his still body, whining and yipping in agony. Why? This was unfair. I had just found him a season ago. He had kept me safe. He gave me my name. He gave me everything. He called me his Star. His shining Star. I didn't feel like a Star that night. If anything I felt like a dead Star. A black hole swirling in the sky, sucking up everything around it. Why hadn't the earth taken me? I was the deformed one. The scarred one. The ugly one. He had been beautiful. So kind and loving. I was... damaged. Damaged. Broken Star. Broken Stars don't shine.

I stumbled out of the cave, tripping over my own feet. My scars itched and throbbed, the place where my ear used to be sent spikes of heat through my skull. Oh it was happening again. I felt the flames. The flames they burned. My head hurt. Oh it hurt. Willow made the hurt stop. His purple eyes made the hurt stop. Where was my Willow?
