Night World: Warring Times

In the Night World, there are only two laws:

1.) Never reveal the existence of the Night World to humans.
2.) Never fall in love with a human.

The Night World Council enforces these laws for their people's well-being, and because humans can not be trusted after the Burning Times. The Apocalypse has not occurred yet, so these rules will be enforced by the sticks-in-the-mud. Circle Daybreak is rising as a resistance group while human hunters stalk the creatures of the night (typically vampires and shapeshifters, some idiots hunt witches) because of their own delusions.

The "royal" families of the Night World:
Vampires: the Redferns.
Witches: the Harmons, also known as the Hearth Women.
Shapeshifters: the Draches (descendants of the dragon princess from the battle between witches and shapeshifters. They can transform into any animal they choose, but they are stuck with that animal for life. They get one chance to pick the animal they can shift into for the rest of their lives.

Shapeshifters are, from my knowledge, carnivores. Their society is patriarchal like the vampires. They consist of Houses for each species, each holding their own royal family and nobles.
Werewolves are not pure-blood shifter wolves. They are a hybrid between shifter dogs and wolves and are thus seen as second class even in their own society. Werewolves are only allowed to eat organs (but no one enforces this rule so feel free to eat whatever you want, except people; those are off limits to everyone).

Vampires are made through a blood exchange. A human, witch, or shapeshifter can undergo the change as long as they receive enough blood from a vampire or multiple vampires. If the said person does not receive enough blood, he or she will be turned into a ghoul instead.
A ghoul is a creature that failed to turn into a vampire. It's flesh is constantly decaying as it lives because it did not fully change. They seek fresh blood and flesh from their victims due to this state so it is best to kill a ghoul on sight or it'll eat you.
Lamia vampires are able to stop their aging process whenever they want. If, at anytime for any reason, they decide to start aging again, the years that they have piled up will rapidly catch up with them physically. So, if you are a three-hundred-year-old lamia vampire, I suggest that you don't age again unless you want to die. Lamia are also the vampires who are able to eat, drink, and reproduce. The first lamia vampire was Red Fern, the son of Maya, the first vampire.
Made vampires typically below the age of nineteen. Some rare cases of those who were turned from ages twenty to twenty-five are nearly non-existent. For whatever reason, a human, witch, or shapeshifter cannot be turn passed adulthood. Those made vampires you meet will be teens and some children. Made vampires do not age, eat, drink, or reproduce, but they do have beating hearts and their hair and nails do grow.

Witches have three Circles, which are the covens of their society. Witches practice magic with the aid of herbs, gemstones, effigies and incantations, all of which may be used in a spell; they worship the Goddess in her many manifestations, celebrate Samhain, and probably other festivals on the Wheel of the Year. However their magic is innate and does not always require external aids, although these can accentuate their power. Offensive and defensive spells can be used with a simple chant. No witch has the power to see into the past or control the weather. The whole of witch society is governed by the maiden, mother, and crone. A Hearth Woman is usually the crone. If you are a Harmon, then you are a descendant of the goddess Hecate Witch-Queen and her daughter Hellewise Hearth-Woman. All Redferns are relatives of the Harmons because the first vampire, Maya, was the twin sister of Hellewise. This is the same for all witches with Harmon lineage. Witches refer to themselves as daughters of Hellewise, this include men. The man to female ratio for witches is about one to three. Men are usually born as twins with a sister. Witch society is matriarchal, that is, the family name is the mother's name. Men give up their last names and take on their wives' last names.
Lost witches are witches, for whatever reason, have lost the knowledge of their family lineage. They are known to human society as psychics, mediums, etc. If a lost witch discovers his or her lineage, they may choose to become part of the Night World or continue his or her life as a human. A male witch may be born without a twin.
Witch Covens:
—Circle Twilight: witches of this coven use light magic, taking on professions of healing and other goody-goody things. They don't typically marry humans.
—Circle Midnight: witches of this coven are from the darker side of magic, often using charms and underhanded tricks to get what they want. They are more selfish than their Twilight counterparts. They do not marry humans.
—Circle Daybreak: witches of this coven have only recently reformed. Back before the Burning Times, the witches of this coven took up male counterparts to make up for the lack of male witches. They became a rebel organization before the Apocalypse, recruiting members from all ways of life into their ranks, including those who were soulmates of different races. Witches are of all kinds, humans and born witches, and members often marry humans to make up for the lack of males.

Weaknesses:
Each race has a weakness. These weaknesses can be used by players to make the role play more interesting. The reason behind these weaknesses are unknown for the most part, so if your curious you just got to accept what I'm telling you.
For humans, it's everything. We're not a very hardy race, though we make up for it by procreating rapidly.
Witches are weak against iron and fire. They'll be rendered physically weak if hit with an iron pipe, and will certainly die if burnt at the stake. Then again who wouldn't be dead after being tied up and set aflame?
What's the weaknesses of vampires? Duh-duh, duh! Wood and fire. Wood will slow down their rapid regeneration ability and kill them if it pierces their hearts. It is believed to be good luck to name you vampire child after a plant, such as a tree because it'll give them the strength of that particular plant. Sunlight only weakens their powers by a little, so it's not really a weakness. Fire kills anything...
I wonder what shapeshifters are weak against? Care to take a guess? Silver and fire? Why, yes those are what they're weak against. As stated above, fire kills anything. A shifter injured with a silver blade or anything made of silver will be weakened just as a vampire would against wood. A silver bullet or knife to the heart or head will kill them.

Symbols:
Each race has their own symbols which helps Night World citizens identify one another. The symbols are black, except for members of the Circle Daybreak. The symbols for those are black-and-white or simply white. The symbols for the Night World are flowers.
Lamia vampires have the black iris as their symbol. The petals of the iris are white, or white and black if they're members of Circle Daybreak.
Made Vampires have the black rose as their symbol. The petals of the rose are white, or white and black if they're members of Circle Daybreak.
Witches have the black dahlia and the crescent moon with three stars as their symbols. These can be white or white-and-black if the witches are members of Circle Daybreak.
Lost witches have the black violet as their flower. It will be white, or white-and-black if the lost witch is a member of Circle Daybreak.
Shapeshifters have multiple types of the lily species as their symbol depending on the animal they are. So if you are a tiger, your flower is a black tiger lily. Like the others, if a shapeshifter is a member of Circle Daybreak, his or her flower will be white or white-and-black.
Werewolves are pretty weird. They have their own flower that does not follow the other shapeshifters' flowers. Their flower is the black foxglove. The flower can be white, or black-and-white if the shapeshifter is part of Circle Daybreak.

The setting is in a small, fictional town in the countryside of New Jersey called St. Warrington's Village. Its population size is large enough to mask any weird things that may happen, but most of the residents will know one another. It's not a hick town, be assured of that, but most people are related to one another if they can trace their ancestors back to the American Revolution. The time period is present day, so Obama is still our president, Kim Jong Il is dead, the Mars rover has landed, and so on.
I'll make a map of the town later, and of the schools and other important places.

Anyone can join this role play as long as they ask.
Remember that one can only play as a human, vampire (made or born), witch (human trained as a witch or born as a witch), a shapeshifter (whether born or turned), or a mix of these. No angels or demons or any smarty remarks about how those are okay to play as because I will ban you from this role play. We stick to L.J. Smith's Night World.
The rules of the role play are simple and easy to follow.
-Follow the guild's rules and Gaia's rules.
-You are only allowed to have a maximum of six characters. If you think you can handle more, please contact me.
-No graphic sex scenes if clothes start coming off. If you want to carry out the sex, do it through p.m. or some other document.
-Post characters in your profile topic, not here.
-Respect others. Don't be a meanie and make fun of them.
-Criticism is meant to help a person's literary ability, not hinder it.
-No god-mod and instant hits.
-No killing another person's character unless you have his or her permission. -Have fun.

I retain the right to edit, delete, and modify the above stated as I choose.

Heights and Weights of Characters:

You should click here and here if you are having trouble deciding the height and weight of your characters. Remember to look at your characters' pictures to decide on their height. It is important that your characters are at a healthy weight unless they have eating disorders, or they are models that starve themselves to fit into clothing, which isn't very good for them. A really tall character, reaching heights of five foot six inches should definitely be around 140 lbs, whether your character is a girl or a boy.

Death of a Character:

Vampire death: A vampire death will occur from old age, fire, losing its head, being torn to pieces, massive blood-loss, and being staked through the heart or head with a wooden object. Regular bullets or metal stakes will have no affect other than temporarily stopping the vampire. If a vampire is killed by wood, it will dry up and become a mummy, though the older the vampire is, the more likely that they'll turn into dust. An example of this is when Maya became a pile of dust after being staked. A vampire will no just start decomposing. They will shrivel up and become a natural mummy. This process takes time with age. A young, newly made vampire or a young lamia will take days to become a mummy while older vampires will quickly dry up like a prune.

Shapeshifter and werewolf deaths: A shapeshiter or werewolf will die like a vampire because anyone will die in a fire, without a head, without blood, or a stake/bullet through their brain and/or heart. Silver is very effective against a shapeshifter or werewolf. If a shapeshifter or werewolf dies, he or she will revert back into their animal form and that's all. They do not shrivel up or turn to dust. Often enough, their bodies are taken by other shapeshifters and used to make clothing so another shifter. This way, when a shapeshifter changes forms, he or she won't be butt-naked as a human.

Witch death: Witches can die just like a human, vampire, or werewolf can die. They are moral beings like you and I. A witch is especially weak against iron, so if you hit a witch behind the head with an iron bat or something like that, she'll be knocked out for quiet some time.

Ghoul death: The rotting living-dead. Stake them or set them ablaze, then bury them in the ground and hope the smell will go away. Ghouls, as you may recall, are humans, witches, or shapeshifters that failed to successfully turn into a made vampire. When they die, they will rot away naturally because they were already rotting away in the first place.

Human death: Anything will kill a human. Humans will rot away slowly and naturally unless their bodies are frozen, chopped up and scattered throughout a forest for animals to eat, turned to ashes in a fire, or buried with limestone to accelerate the decaying process. Look up more ways to accelerate or slow down the human decaying process if you're curious because I won't look it up for you.
