Dixie puttered around in the large main room of the house, attempting to remain warm by bundling herself with as many items of clothing as she could stand and keeping in motion. Archie was away at that resort place, and Dixie was content to be alone. With all the whining he'd been doing about his injury, any new parents would think he was on death's door! It was just a little scrape. Not that she'd had many, being one who preyed on the weak in her former existence, but she imagined a little cut to the head couldn't possibly hurt as much as Archie'd said.

She paced past the kitchen area, then past the door, and wait... was that whistling? Why hadn't she heard it before now? Dixie shook her head and inched closer to the door. She needed to be more on guard when her father was away. Who knew what kinds of psychos were out on the streets?

Bracing her foot against the bottom of the door, she opened it and peeked around the edge. "Hello?"

Dixie frowned briefly as she encountered a problem she had dealt with her entire short sentence. She was twenty years older than her 'father,' thank you very much! But it wasn't like this guy could understand that yet. Yet. She smiled.

"Come right in." She pulled the door open fully and motioned inside. "My dad isn't here right now, but if everything goes smoothly, I can handle the landing." She yanked her scarf tighter around her face and didn't elaborate on what she might have meant by a landing. After all, she was new at handling this alone.

"I'm not sure really," Dixie admitted. Most of the pods seemed to come eerily close to the arrival of the new guardian destined for them, but the Council only sent landing times specific to the day.

"Here." She approached a file cabinet and searched through it for a minute before coming out with a photograph. "That's her. She won't look like that now, but those armadillos are pretty kickass."

"The whole program's been going on for about three years now," Dixie said. "Regular Gaians would just come in the yard here and take the babies that landed, but they didn't know anything about us. Then Archie, my father, kind of took this place over and started giving the babies to other criminals who were grown up. But at the beginning of this year, he opened the place up to you guys again. You seem to be going okay. I'm Dixie, by the way."

She held out her hand, intending to shake, but then a low rumble caused her to look toward the door. "She's here." Oh well. There would be more than enough time to answer questions later.

Her first solo arrival! Dixie's extended hand began to shake slightly. "Come with me," she said, secretly hoping this landing wouldn't turn out like the last one.

She pulled the door open and made her way outside, trusting Atticus to follow. The ground had dried and hardened since Fionn's rocky entrance into this world, and the snow was sticking to it in crunchy, fluffy piles. Dixie could barely make out the bullseye painted on the grass. They really needed a flashier arrival area. Maybe she could pile some mattresses out here and set up a couple of lawn chairs when it got warmer. "It'll land here," she explained, confidence restored.

The snow was still falling as thick as ever, and Dixie squinted up at the sky, unable to see the landing pod. If there was anything wrong with it, she doubted she'd be able to tell until it was too late. Luckily, it sounded fine so far.

"I haven't seen any injured since I've been helping," she said. "When they get within range, they have this parachute on them that opens. It still lands with a bit of a thud, but nothing more than if the kid were to fall down on their own. The pod's cushy inside too." She herself had been asleep when she arrived. It seemed a waste to be so worked up over something she couldn't control, after all.

Right there it was, indeed. The little ship continued its barrage of noise for a few seconds longer before whirring into near-silence and deploying a bright green parachute, making it visible to anyone within a ten-block radius. Soon after, it bounced to a stop on the hard ground. The snow that fell against the pod's sides instantly melted, and it steamed a bit in the cold.

When nothing happened and a few moments had passed, Dixie stepped forward. As her foot hit the ground, the metal door slid open quickly and soundlessly. Ooo. New technology. Dixie rocked back on the leg where her weight remained, letting Atticus take the first look at his new charge.
