So my recent knitting project was a bag. I wanted something to hold the little stuff I usually forget when I take my knitting with me (nail clippers, upholstery tapestry needles, small paperclips), some scrap yarn, and my new knitting/stitch "journal." In the process of making this I got frustrated with the uneven-ness of my stitches. I've never seemed to be able to get my tension right so I went back to beginner videos. I was wrapping my yarn wrong. At the bottom of the bag you can see the difference between good stitches and "what were you thinking Milk?" I also learned the raspberry stitch, open chain ribbing stitch, rice stitch, whelk stitch, and the half linen stitch.

It was a big learning experience for me. I've been knitting for almost two years without knowing my biggest issue - wrapping the yarn when doing a knit stitch. stare I was tempted to pull it all out and re-do it. Maybe in a different stitch such as half linen. I ended up leaving it (clearly) because it's a learning experience. It shows where I went wrong and how I've improved. It's sort of motivational for me and forces me to accept that I'm not perfect - something I had issues with when I was little and still sometimes fuels my social anxiety.
Anyone else have crafty learning experiences to share? Perhaps a "where I was then, here I am now" comparison picture? How has your craft-y-ness improved? Any silly mistakes such as mine above?

That's actually very nice! Me likey! I'm still a crap crafter but one thing that I learned from repeatedly doing it? Do NOT stick something in the oven and walk away. Charms, clay, shrinky-dinks, food! I burn things like it's my job emotion_donotwant

I tried to make one of those blankets where an image is created using purls and knits. Didn't count the stitches right and it ended up looking really mutated. It ended up being the first knitting project I salvaged for yarn. Learned the importance of counting stitches and that I don't really like how those sort of projects look.
Also learned a lot with a high school final painting project. It turned out a bit different than I intended but I learned a lot about crowding and lighting in an image and finally got the guts to make some art involving implied nudity. And it turned out very tasteful and pretty. I have gotten several compliments on it
