So there's always been discussion on how to prevent piracy on games. I personally don't even know how you pirate a game at all.
But (this is a rather outdated piece of info) there's been talk about a way to prevent piracy in terms of the development of upcoming new consoles (I think it was Sony that brought this up).
Basically, they have taken the idea of developing the console in such a way in which it wouldn't play used games.
I don't really....see the point to that. At all. It affects replay value and just the outright prices of games. For one, GameStop (in the US) is the only place to get new games, and they charge ridiculous prices. As one would know, newly released games tend to go for $60USD.
A used game, you would get basically the same enjoyment with a more appropriate price, non? Not to mention, Not everyone can buy a game right when it's released.
Thoughts? Discussion, prease?

Personally, I think the idea is ridiculous. That won't help at all against piracy.
The way you manage to pirate a game and then play it is in different forms. However many of then don't even need a CD but a USB with the pirated data connected to the hacked console in order to play it. So the idea of a console not playing used games if for the benefit of the company so they can generate more money.
Still I can't seem to imagine how it would function all of this. How can console know if the CD is a bought used game or a new one? What I'm thinking they wanted to do is that the console can identify is it is a CD from the company (no matter if it is used or new) and a home made one that has the game data. There I can see the point in this thing but not being able to use used games at all? That's just a crazy idea that won't work.
Many people buy used games because of how high prices are for videogames. And Gamestop doesn't put the price on the games, It's the videogame company. (Microsoft/Sony) There are also other places to buy new games. Walmart, Toy R Us, Kmart, Sears, and many more and they all cost $60USD everywhere you go for new games. Its the price that has been because that's what Sony/Microsoft wants for them to gain money.
And to top it all out it one can't use used games it means we have to constantly buy new games which will mean spending $60 bucks again and again no matter which retailer you go to buy the game. It is just ridiculous and a stupid idea to get more money.
I buy used games all the time since they are cheaper but when a new release comes out which a special offer, I buy it brand new. There really isn't much difference other than the box they came is a little used but sometimes the CD is like brand new.
This is just all a plan for Sony to generate more money and it won't help at all against piracy. Instead it will help increase it even more because of the rage gamers will have by the high cost demand in order to play. Piracy will always be there no matter what. The only way that I think that console will work is like what I mentioned earlier. That the console can identify whenever the CD is an official one made by the company (Doesn't matter it used or new) or one made home made that is pirated. (Common CDs that can be bought almost everywhere)
This is my opinion on this "idea" against piracy.

Only if it's something I really, really, really want and just came out will I buy it new, but if it is something that's old anyway i'll buy used. I don't play a lot of video games anymore (Too busy). pirate I don't much about Piracy stuff except that i'm not supposed to do it, and something about soap. Sopa...Soapa? That one thing...

[~+~] Personally I just think that they must be aware that most games when released are crazily overpriced as it is, and most of us normal people can't afford a new one every week, or even every month sometimes.
Used games are an opportunity for us to spend less money, which is always a good thing, but still get to enjoy their products. I think they'd get less sales. Also, I think quite a few people have the attitude that they can always trade in their new games for a bit of money when they've finished with them, so it makes it less painful to fork out money for them in the first place. ;>_>

I think that's wrong because I have some games that I bought and only used once. That's sometimes the case with used games, I happen to live near a game stop and new games even when on clearnce are still ridicullosly expensive.

As was mentioned previously how would they even make a console that could identify if a game was used or not? It just doesn't make any sense at all.
I guess it all depends on the game I would like to get. ^^;
