I'm just irritated they started reprinting it! Call me snobbish and elitist, but it was a rite of passage to hunt that thing down and pay through the nose for a copy!
I rather liked it when I first read it, but I've started becoming incredibly critical of it as of late. There are certain sections I still adore, though there are others that I wish she had not written at all.
Oh, well. The new reprinting's cover is absolutely hideous and I like the original covers much better.

I got the e-book from someone online, so I suppose I never had to either look at the cover or hunt for it. And I refuse to reread it until at least a year has passed for fear of ruining those few wonderfully sadistic character angst moments that made it great.

I think my only real problem with it is that I can't stand the rest of the book after he returns to Paris. The entire book should have ended - at the latest - with Erik after he was settled in the Opera House and first heard Christine sing. It just makes me die inside, sometimes. There are a few good lines, I will admit, but a lot of it is absolute rubbish and Christine is reduced to a spineless twit.

Christine IS a spineless twit! Even in Leroux, she went around chasing butterflies and asking others to do as she asked. PErsonally, I think Kay just brought the same character, and idealized her a little less.

I have yet to find a Kay version anywhere around where I live. Although I have the original Leroux I've been reading the ones done by other authors.

The Persia section is worth reading the whole book for.
I want one of those musical doll things...I bet with modern technology one could actually make one of those.
