Ever since I decided to pursue musical theatre, I've always been put in the backdrop. I have yet to receive a main role. I've always had the chorus role or received understudy. So, this is the place to trade your stories of, well, waiting upstage left, right.....or just away from the spot light you yearn for ^_^

I'v never even gotten a role gonk I started out tech and have tried out four times and each time I have not gotten picked and I return to teching backstage sweatdrop

I haven't got a lead role yet, (still trying). I'm always just in the chorus and stuff like that.

Hm...well, I've been a lot of plays. Often in my middle school only the eighth graders got the main roles, so I was often put into the big groups of dancing kids. And, and my eighth grade year, I was to afraid to act in front of my class mates and ended up with a major-minor part. (Violet in Alice in Wonderland)
I left that school thinking that i was no good in theater. After 4-5 years of trying for a role I hadn't got anywhere.
But guess what?
I tried out for a theater scholarship to go to a private highschool. I was one of the last to go, and stuck around till it finished. I received an unexpected letter some weeks later detailing that I had relieved the scholarship! Boy, I couldn't believe it!
Well, now I'm at that Highschool, and I tried out for the play. No, I did not receive a major role. It's a musical and I can not sing and my upperclassmen are much more experienced than I. I didn't even make call backs. But you know what? That's okay. I have another four years and 7 more plays at my school. And my personal quote on plays is: "Do you're best at the role you're given, outshine your fellow backdrop actors. Arrive on time. Help with the set. Ask the director what you can do better next time. Make friends with the lead actors. They'll notice you. They will. I've experienced it." alright, well, that wasn't really the quote, as the quote is a whole lot shorter, but since I'm already text-wallin' ya', I'll stop here!

That's not bad at all smile I just started classes at a community college that does two plays a year. I'm a little gun shy because every time I go for a main role, I don't get it....ever....it can take a toll on one's pride. I'm not giving up though. I'm defiantly going in guns blazing for the fall drama and the spring musical, or any play I try out for.
