Lydia Cross It wasn't certain how, but one way or another, Lydia had gotten lost only to find herself at the foot of an arcade. "A game corner?" Pika? They both gawked.
"Excuse me! You're a pokemon trainer, right?" Some odd sales lady ran up. "This is for you. All pokemon trainers get a free point card to play at the arcade."
"Thanks, but I'm not looking to play. I'm looking for a road to Eidolon Town." Lydia refused as politely as she could.
"Eidolon? That ghastly old place?" The lady blinked. "So that means you've already caught six pokemon, then?"
Lydia froze with a blank expression. "Six?"
"The Eidolon Gym rule is that it's a full party battle."
Silence. "Ahhh! I wish I knew that sooner so I could have gone out and caught more pokemon! How am I gonna train six pokemon? I only just started out!"
"Please, calm down," The sales woman seemed uneasy. "You can trade in your points for pokemon from playing in the arcade."
Pause. "Really?"
"We've held a license for the past five years, and get customs from around the world." She handed her the card again. Talk about pushing a sale! Even though it was free.
"Uh..." Lydia looked up at her pokemon. "I guess a couple of games couldn't hurt." She gave an awkward laugh.
"Almost there... Almost... There..." Lydia focused in as she tried to manipulate the claw drop. Voltz had its mouth wide open, holding its breath as it watched in anticipation. It got closer, a psyduck doll! Closer to the drop hole. It was only an inch away now! And it fell. Both Lydia's and Voltz's faces dropped. The glitter intheir eyes faded quickly as disappointment set in. "That's okay. We can always go again..." She reached for her wallet, pulling it up only to realize how light it felt. A closer inspection revealed why: She spent nearly half her saving in the arcade! And Barely racked up eighty points. "Or, maybe next time," She became awkward yet again.
"Aw man! You're kidding me!" A boy called, seeming overly upset about the loss on his game. He looked exhausted, completely stressed out, and his tododile laughed at him. "I can't believe it! I was so close! So close! Then I could have gotten a slugma! I've worked too hard to be short seven points! Seven!" His fingers clutched on his head. He'd run out of cash and luck.
"Guess we should get moving before we end up like that too," Lydia laughed quietly with her pokemon.
"Maybe if we can win just one battle..." the boy looked around, just in time to see Lydia exit. "Hey! Hey girl! Wait up!" He pushed through to catch up. She seemed small and naive enough. It felt like it should be an easy victory. "Hey!" He came around her. "I challenge you to a battle!"
"Oh, no thanks," Lydia waved her hand up in surrender.
The boy stood blank. "Wha--you... You can't just refuse a pokemon challenge! I challenged you!" He was even more stressed at the refusal.
"Well, we're kinda tired, so we were going to go get something to eat at the pokemon center and hopefully get a place to stay until we can figure out the best road to Eidolon Town," Lydia explained, waving her hand again as she parted ways.
"W-wait! No one refuses Dune Bromiester! No one!" He fired up, only to have his tododile hose him down and laugh. His stomach growled loudly. Maybe lunch wasn't such a bad idea.
