I thought it'd be fun to have a thread dedicated to reviews of films you thought you'd enjoy very much, but didn't for some reason.

I just saw Pirates! Band of Misfits, and was... underwhelmed.
The Good: It was cute, and many of the jokes were clever. I loved the visual gags, and adored the animation style. I thought it was hip without being totally pointless, and I liked a lot of the voice acting. I loved the no-names thing.
The Bad: I didn't like the plot. I also really didn't like the characterization of Charles Darwin. I feel almost... stuffy saying that, but it really made it difficult for me to enjoy the movie.
Thoughts?

[~+~] I actually totally agree. I thought the plot would be a lot better, i know it was generally only supposed to be a kids film, but i still felt they could have done something a bit better. And no, i agree with the Charles Darwin thing. It almost sounded like they were insulting him, i know it was probably just a bit of a comedy aspect, but i don't think it really added to the film at all.

[~+~] The Hunger Games.
Now, before i say anything further, I will admit I haven't read the books at all. Not even looked at them to be honest. So it may be one of those movies where it's quite important to have read the book.
The acting (i think) was alright, it was difficult to tell with the main girl character, as she was quite emotionless to me (but not Kristen Stewart emotionless), but then that may be the way her character is portrayed in the book.
To me, the film never really got going at all. I kind of felt it was lacking in the action in all honesty.

But, I liked the book--and she was supposed to be rather emotionless. It was a 'thing,' lol. I did wonder if folks who hadn't read the books would like the movie, though, and I think all your points are valid. Having read the book, I was able to 'fill in' some of the stuff that was missing, I think.

Yeah, i think that was the general opinion - if you've read the book you thought the adaptation was good, if you haven't, not so much.
Yeah, i had a feeling they'd cut out quite large parts of it. Oh! I actually have another one to post about, it's not that i hated the film or anything, i quite liked it....

[~+~] The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. (The American version.)
This one, i have read the books, all of them. (And loved them, by the way.) And other than loving the book, i also wanted to see it because Trent Reznor was doing the score for it (which was awesome too).
However. The film generally was ok (I thought Rooney Mara did an amazing job as Lisbeth). But there were two main things that ruined it for me.
1) The accents. They're all supposed to be swedish! Daniel Craig could get away with having an English one, but it's the fact that the main bad guy (who i won't name, although this will probably give it away, sorry!) had an American accent, despite being from a Swedish family? This REALLY got on my nerves. It's just the fact that there were so many different ones, not that they were different generally, if that makes sense?
2) They changed the freaking ending from the book! I know film adaptations aren't exactly like the book, but the ending was kinda vital for the next book. ;>_> So yeah, when i saw the ending i was like...Huh?
But generally worth seeing. I think it's because i loved the book of it so much that i'm more harsh. xD;

To me, the film never really got going at all. I kind of felt it was lacking in the action in all honesty. I thought it was absolutely horrible compared the book. I ended up seeing it twice, and still thought it was bad the second time. Of course, I saw it forever ago, so I'm kinda vague on everything....
And the whole emotionless acting (Kirsten Stewart...) It seems to be the new "in" thing. There are a LOT of these types of actresses breaking out, its slightly concerning.

I loved the Hunger Games movie, although I guess it all depends on who you're asking. I felt like I was watching something that I had imagined from the books. Granted, it could have been better. I expect to see some improvements in the second book. Hopefully they do Finnick some justice.

This isn't a movie from this year, but
My Sister's Keeper
I thought they did a fairly good job in keeping to the book, and to anyone who hadn't read it would think it was a good movie.
What I'm saying is that I did think it was a good movie, but they totally changed the ending and that made me so mad!!
The ending was like the "wow" moment in the book! One of the endings that you would never have saw coming! I think it would've made the movie perfect and unexpected to those who didn't read the book.
