Last night we got some updates into some of Magic: the Gatherings future, update on Return to Ravnica and From the Vault Realms, and products.
First up is products.
There will be no more Premium Series decks. For legacy players trying to get foil copies of otherwise non-foil or expensive cards, it won't be in an all-foil deck anymore.
Commander based products will be released every year. That's right, EVERY year. Not sure if they will be decks, a collection of singles like a FtV product, or what. but word is we will hear more about this soon and released in November.
Dual Decks: Izzet vs Golgari. It was obvious Niv Mizzet was going to be in it but conformation that it is Niv Mizzet, the Firemind can lay any speculation to rest. We also have conformation that Jarad, Zombie Lich Lord will be the other mythic. as of now, we know name, mana cost (BBGG), and creature type (Zombie Elf). To those of you who do not know, Jarad took over his sisters, Savera, position as guild leader after her death.
6 cards confirmed for FtV: Realms. Glacial Chasm (new art), Dryad Arbiter (new art), Grove of the Burnwillows(new art), Urgborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, Forbidden Orchard (new art), and Murmuring Bosk
Now for the important part; Return to Ravnica block.
Gatecrash was announced as the second set in the block. But that's not all.
RtR will feature 5 guilds; Azorius, Rakdos, Selesnya, Izzet, and Golgari.
Gatecrash will also be a large set featuring the other 5 guilds; Dimir, Gruul, Orzhov, Boros, and Simic.
"Sinker", the last set in the block, will be a small set with cards from all guilds. That means for Limited Events, RTR will only contain RTR cards, Gatecrash will only contain Gatecrash cards, and "Sinker will contain all 3
RTR Prerelease event. When you begin the event, you will be asked to choose a guild. you will be given a Prerelease Promo and a Guild Booster Pack of the chosen guild along with the remaining boosters for the event! You can even use the promo in the deck you construct at the event!!! As a long time Prerelease event goer, this is big. Real big. Even if the set doesnt live up to it's predecessor, the event will still be a huge success. Though I'd assume like in MBS, the Guild Booster will only contain cards with that guilds watermark (aside from a new Jace which wont be watermarked like Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas). I only bring this up because in Ravnica: City of Guilds there were cards without watermarks. It could contain cards without watermarks but I'd highly doubt it.
On an end note, Gatecrash will have a Gideon, which will be a part of the Boros Legion, and the long awaited Feather who was in the Ravnica: City of Guilds sotry, but never appeared on a card.
