Chapter One: Making friends
Making friends is an important part of your schooling years. It can be hard when you don't know anyone, but it's good to keep an open mind. Shutting people out because their different is a terrible thing to do. I will not beat around the bush, the kids that you shut out in your first year or two will probably end up zapping you on the behind later on.
This book is terribly cheery. "Make friends or get zapped". Ha! I can make friends with whomever I want and shut down whomever I want. I don't want to be frolicking around with common folk. And no need for me to worry about the zapping. No one would dare face me!
Wow. Mother actually said that? I knew she was bad... but seriously? She's starting to remind me of another rude rich girl I know.
There are a few key elements to making friends. First is the first impression. Be yourself. Be nice. Let others tell you about themselves. People are likely to like you if you show them what you're really like.
Is this a contradiction I see? Because, and I admit it, 'myself' isn't nice.

Are we sure this is our mother? I'm pretty sure mother thinks she's nice even when she's almost murdering us when forcing us into corsets.
Secondly, acceptance. A lot of schools have houses which students are separated into and I strongly encourage becoming friends with people in houses other than your own. This is important for preventing gossip about you in other houses. Your friends will make sure that no one's making fun of you without you knowing.
Ahahaha, they can talk all they want! I don't care. As long as their not criticizing my dress sense...
Crap. It's one of those "how to be queen of the school" books. We'd better stop before it corrupts us.
We must continue! Mother's comments are entertainment enough!
My third and final tip about friends is to hang onto the friends you've got. Cutting someone off in your first year may be a nightmare, but going away from past friends is hell. They know you. If you cut them out, they'll know how to destroy you. So, hold onto them.
Wait. Mother didn't comment here. Do you think she's actually paying attention now?
Who knows? Maybe she just despises this one so much it's not even worth her comment
