Prologue
We had it all. The money, the clothes, the cars. Everything. We were perfect. All of us. All of the 'Elites' as we liked to be called. And that we were. Elite. See, we weren't human. The low lives. No, we were something much more amazing. Elites had triple the strength, speed, intelligence and beauty of the humans. We were the top class. We made ourselves better than them in every way. Or so they told us. But I guess I'm not included in that now. Not anymore. Because if we did, If we were better than them.. If they were better than us, How did it come to this?

Chapter One
The President's celebration party. They always called it that. It was really just an advertisement for the newest toys. That night, I attended with my wife Elizabeth. She was the most beautiful woman I'd ever seen. And I loved her more than anything. Not more than our daughter but.. That's to be expected, I suppose. My girl wanted her Daddy to buy her the newest toys for elite children. The Jacob and Jane dolls. My wife and I decided we'd have to look at them first before deciding on anything. She had enough toys that she didn't play with as it was. It was supposed to be just another night as a celebrity. I never thought that night would be the one to change my life. Forever.
The Night Of The Party:
"Elizabeth, Darling. Are you ready yet? I'm sure you look as stunning as you usually do. Everyone at the party is waiting for us." I called from the bottom of the stairs. She had a tendency to make us late to important events, and I didn't want that to happen today. I sighed, twirling my car keys on my left index finger, my right hand on the door knob impatiently.
"Just one minute, James!" I shook my head. One minute meant ten in her time. Just then, my six year old daughter Kaitlin came running to me, excitement written all over her childish features.
"Daddy, Daddy! You're going to get me a Jacob and Jane doll right? Please Daddy, pleeeassee?" She gave me her best puppy dog eyes but it wasn't working tonight. Usually I'd give in right away and give her whatever she wanted but she'd already gotten ten new toys in the past month and a half. I thought it was too much.
"We'll see, Sweetheart. No promises." At that, my wife came downstairs. She looked stunning in her form fitting emerald green dress, her green eyes bright and smiling. She ran her brush through her hair once more before joining me in front of the door.
"Well, well. Look who finally decided to come downstairs." I smirked, teasing her a bit.
"I couldn't stay upstairs all day. Everyone'll be waiting for the best elite couple in the world, won't they?" She kissed my cheek, before muttering some words to our daughter. I kissed our baby girl goodbye, then walked outside to my most prized possession: The Rigzin.
. . . . The Rigzin was a sleek, yellow beauty with dark tinted windows. She was one of the newer model self-functioning cars. The Rigzin had a built in refrigerator and could drive itself with the hologram chauffeur. We arrived at the party in under ten minutes. As soon as we stepped out of the Rigzin, cameras flashed all around us, and if we hadn't been Elites, we probably would've been blinded by the bright lights.
Elizabeth and I both worked for the government. She was the president's right hand. The one he went to with everything. She also had a large say in the elite army and was an excellent fighter. I was a special agent. One of the best.
After we'd socialized for about thirty or so minutes, one of the president's aids came to notify us that the president would like to speak with us..

Chapter Two
Not long after that we were in his office, laughing and drinking before things got serious.
The President's Office:
"So, James, Elizabeth. I'm sure you're wondering why I called you here." He crossed his left leg over his right, simultaneously putting out his cigar in the ashtray. "It wasn't just to drink and have fun, Sir?" My wife answered with a sweet smile. "I'm afraid not, Liz. And you know I told you to call me Jim. I'm requesting your assistance in the annihilation of the human race. They've been a burden for long enough, living in those slums they call homes, causing troubles, committing crimes. I'll need your help. Both of you. What do you say?"
It wasn't a huge shock that the President was finally going to kill off the human race once and for all. Rumors had been going around the agency for years. We all knew it was coming. It was just a matter of time.
. . . .
My wife jumped at the opportunity. She hated the humans. And I guess we all did, in a way. She always said they were an accident waiting to happen. That they were horrible things that lived beneath us. Nothing more. They certainly weren't people. Anyone who entertained that thought was just ridiculous in her eyes.
The end of the party came faster than expected. My mind was still reeling from the thought of the President actually murdering that many people. And yes, in my mind they were people. Elizabeth may not like it but that's how I felt. He shouldn't be murdering all those innocent people. But there was nothing I could do about it, so I figured if you can't beat 'em, join 'em.

Chapter Three
Outside of the Party:
We were on our way to the car. Laughter filled the air. We were all a little tipsy, if not drunk. Then there was a loud crash from across the courtyard. I instantly tensed, looking around the area for intruders. That was when I saw them. Two human gang members were coming at my wife and I.
"Everyone get back!' My wife and I screamed to out peers. The humans weren't stronger than us in any way whatsoever but.. They had recently developed new technology. It was helping them in battles against us, although they never won. If you could say anything about the humans, they always had guts.
The largest gang member ran up to me, fury burning in his eyes while the one on the motorcycle went after my wife. I quickly took two steps in his direction, shifting my feet so that I could dodge the punch he threw my way. I wrapped my hand around his neck, snapping it easily. I turned to my wife to see that she was having a bit of trouble with the motorcyclist. When the guy on the motorcycle saw that I was coming to help, he decided it was for the better if he ran. He quickly sped away from us, heading to the slums.
"I'm going after that ********. I'll be home later, Liz. I love you." I said to my wife before climbing into the Rigzin.
My wife stepped up to the window and said, "Go get him, James. Kill him." I nodded once, speeding off in the direction that the gang member went. It didn't escape me how she didn't return the sentiment.

Chapter Four I did go after him. He'd ridden into the slums just like I thought. Now he was on foot. I wondered why he'd do that when everyone knew Elites were obviously faster than humans. I thought I'd have him in seconds but he was just as fast as I was, if not a bit faster. He ran to the rooftops, stopping for a second when he wasn't sure which direction to go in. I caught him around the neck, holding him up to the ledge. His feet were still on the ground but.. It didn't make a difference. It was a twelve story building. Either way, he was going to die. Or so I thought. He pushed off the roof of the building with his feet, bringing me off the ledge with him.

Chapter Five
I woke up handcuffed to a hospital bed about a week later. My head was wrapped in bandages and I had scratches all over my body. It felt like I'd been run over by a truck.
In the Hospital Room:
Someone opened the door to my room angrily but I couldn't turn my head to see. Two people, actually. They were arguing. Or were they? I couldn't tell. It didn't matter because they came over to my bedside quickly. It was my wife and best friend.
"How the hell could you do this to us you piece of s**t!" My best friend slammed his fist into my stomach and it hurt like hell. I groaned in pain.
"Do what?! What did I do?"
My wife looked at me with hatred, her usually sweet voice laced with venom."You're a spy aren't you? That's why you were so good at being an agent. You got all the training from your human family didn't you?! Don't worry. We'll make sure they never hear from you again." With that, she turned on her heel and stormed out, my best friend right behind her.
. . . . I was confused. I had no idea what was going on but I knew I needed to get out of the hospital. If they thought I was human, they wouldn't hesitate to kill me. That much was fairly obvious.

Chapter Six
I shifted my hands which were handcuffed to the hospital bed. The metal was weak. Easy enough for an elite to break through, but a human? Not so much. I spotted some extra clothes discarded on the floor. Elizabeth must've brought them for me before she started thinking I was a human.
I snapped the handcuffs easily, peeling off the hospital gown to put on my shirt. I paused, wondering what could have possibly made them think I was human.. My eyes lingered on my reflection in the mirror across from the hospital bed.
I noticed the faint outline of a circle type shape on my lower abdomen. At one point in time, I had a belly button. That's what had convinced them.
See, Elites didn't have belly buttons. As infants, we were incubated in a cylinder, until the age of two. What might have been two in our years had the intelligence of a human six year old. A belly button was simple proof of a human's imperfections and as Elites, we had none.
I dressed quickly and knowing I didn't have much time, I climbed out of the window and scaled the hospital wall fairly quickly. I knew I couldn't just walk through the hospital, even if I sneaked. Someone would see me and scaling the wall was a lot faster anyway.

Epilogue
After my escape from the hospital, I ran to the mountains. It may have been cowardly but.. knowing my wife.. My ex-wife, she would've tortured me. And the sheer fact that she would be the one doing it hurt enough.
In the Mountains:
"I miss my daughter terribly but it's for the best if I don't see her again." I sighed, lowering my head a bit. Angela was being nosy and I'd just told her everything about me. Basically what made me the man I am today.
"Why do you think that?" She tilted her head to the side, looking at me with curious eyes.
"Because she'd be hurt and confused. Look, I'm done with this conversation Ang. Go get the dogs so we can go into town and stock up again."
"But--"
"Now, Ang. I'm not in the mood anymore." I stood walking away from her with frustrated steps. This was the beginning of my new life. I didn't need to keep dwelling on what was or what could've been. I wasn't elite anymore, and as far as I could be concerned, I didn't need to be. I didn't need the toys or the money or the fame. I could be happy without it. I could be happy human.
