My friend was being weird and she thought of an army made up of people rebelling against the american government and fighting (literally) for gay rights, church and state seperation and making racism and bigotry(sp?) illegal.

So I was wondering who would join this sort of army and if you would support it. xd sweatdrop xp

Shes taking this too far gonk

She even is drawing up maps and battle plans...according to her they shall make an "Army of the Rainbow" in San Franciso and spread throughout the country.

Im scared now. I first though the "Army of the Rainbow" was a joke, but shes being serious. sad neutral xp

In the words of the Beatles: You say you want a revolution? Well, we all want to change the world.

Honestly, I think the cause is good, and I certainly would support it, but don't count me in. I refuse to join any army. I don't want to die just yet.

Just a question: isn't making racism and bigotry illegal a kind of bigotry in and of itself? I mean, I know it's awful, but people are entitled to their own opinions. It's acting on them that should be illegal, and technically it is. Not that it stops anyone, much less the government...

And mention to her for me, please, that not all of San Francisco would be open to this idea. Unfortunately, they're not all as liberal as she.

your friend is a little off base, not to mention committing treason. I support evolution. It is much nicer, lesss bloody, and is inevitable.

She also forgets that many gay men are pacifists and not likely to fight a war. tell her to organize her friends to vote, much more successful.

I honestly dont support what shes doing (specially yhe army of the rainbow idea, thats just a little crazy) and I think voting would be better. Oh well, I hope its just a phase like her "Waffles are tasty" clas slogan plan for middle school.

"Waffles are tasty" actually got into third place behind "Reach for your dreams" and "the skies are endless" So I think it shows that she can have some persuasion. Im scared.

I believe in population control. But it's probably not a good idea for this army thing. Although voting isn't doing much. Protest! Women did it, African-Americans did it, Ghandi did it, so can she.

i am/ we are pacifists.

no violence, even in self defense.

but it is good to remember that our Declaration of Independence commends the use of force in the overthrow of domestic tyranny.

I wouldn't go to war just yet. There are way better, more peaceful solutions. If she really wants to make a change, make a political "rainbow party". If she doesn't want to go into politics, then that's her fault. Politics is the way you make a difference in this country. That's democracy.
I would only resort to force if our "democracy" became a full-fledged dictatorship. It's getting there, but it's not quite there yet. Sure, Bush controls the electronic voting polls and all three branches of Government so that nothing can challenge him. But his policies are starting to go against Republican interests. He's losing followers. His reign will pass. Nothing lasts forever. U.S. is destined to lose power eventually, it's inevitable. But personally, if rebellion broke out in our country, I doubt that it would do anything. It would simply make the people more scared, which is exactly what Bush wants. It's easy to control people when they're scared. Just look at 9/11.
Plus, I'm a pacifist. If I were recruited I would rather go to jail if I couldn't find an excuse. First of all: dieing isn't exactly at the top of my list of things to do. Second of all:I could never bring myself to kill someone, even if they were going to kill me. Hurt them, yes. Purposefully kill them, no.

And what exactly does that particular fact have to do with anything?

changing a law can't change the way people are... I mean it would be freaking awsome... but... since when has anyone totally played by the rules... I mean anywhere from cheating in monopoly to raping kids and homicides... no matter the consequences people are going to discriminate gays, other races, other religions... The other day i went to a funeral... not by choice.... and even the preacher, whos suposed to me understanding and excepting, started trashing other religions.... people will never change, especially when you use force... we all just have to hope as generations go by that we'll see less and less of this crap... -shrug- wink

Did you know that you can't be drafted if you're gay?

If either of us are ever drafted for whatever reason (though I doubt it'll happen any time soon seeing how the Vietnam War went), me and my friend have decided that we will claim to be boyfriends. We've planned all kinds of witnesses, just in case.

If she wants to do this army, remind her that she will be fighting the US military, one of the most feared in the world. Odds would be against her, seeing as she'd have no tanks.
