Barcel sat in his chair, reading the paper lazily. He didn't particularly enjoy reading the paper. What he enjoyed was making weapons—but he wasn't allowed to do that anymore. Or, rather, he was only allowed to make about 20 a day and in spite of it only being 4 PM he had already fulfilled that quota, which meant he had another 8 hours before he could continue smithing. Normally he would try to sneak in a knife or something, but Scarlet was in the house so there was no way for him to do that. Besides, he was running out of space in the backyard—if you walked around out there you would hear metal against metal because of all the knives he had buried there. Thankfully, Scarlet flew so it wasn't an issue.
Something, however, caught his attention. A quiet noise, from the closet. He heard it, he knew he did. It came again and again, in an erratic but periodic fashion. He shifted out of his seat, loudly as he did so since the floor creaked slightly below him, and headed towards the closet. It was only a moment before Scarlet showed up and gently tried to lead him away in a nervous tone. “Dinner's ready~”
Barcel simply stared at her and then at the closet. “Scarlet, what's in the closet?”
“N-nothing. There's nothing in the closet. Now let's go have dinner.” Another mewling betrayed such claims and Barcel began walking sternly towards the closet. He would know. Scarlet didn't want him to and she made it painfully obvious she was hiding something by stopping in front of the door and holding it shut. “Barcy please, let's just go have dinner.”
Barcel merely pushed her aside and opened the closet. Out tumbled pokemon. Small, young pokemon. Eevees, Cottonee, Vulpix and all other manner of cute, adorable and fluffy creature tumbled out. Barcel squawked in rage. “I told you to stop taking these things home!”
And then his work began. Barcel plucked child after child from the pile with little regard for their cries or desire for affection and simply tossed them out the window into the front yard. He even plucked a few out of Scarlet's desperate hands, as he had times before and doubtless would do again. She loved kids but they were not adopting random fluffy things. So he simply tossed about two dozen children out the window in total disregard for their safety or development.
Finally, he reached one quiet Eevee who had stayed at the back. He understood what was to happen to him and as such he growled angrily at Barcel, but it did little to deter him. Even as Barcel picked him up, he began biting at the Empoleon's arm. As he moved to toss the Eevee from the window, the set of teeth clamped down hard and in spite of the toss the small child merely hang on.
Barcel paused and stared at the child. He was angry. He was pissed beyond belief. He looked like he was ready to rip out Barcel's throat and the growling matched it.
The Empoleon quietly walked back over to Scarlet with the child still hanging from his arm. “We can keep this one.”
Scarlet stared at him in disbelief but gave no reply as she slowly pulled the child from his arm. She had never thought this day would come and her confusion stifled out any immediate joy.
