A scraggly patch of woods in front of the Test Subject HQ leads to a massive expanse of evergreen trees. Underneath the thick canopy, sunlight is few and far behind; what manner of beast could inhabit the darkness?

Alex drifted into the Forest slowly, dropping to his feet as he came to the thick of the brush. "Matt? Avery!" He whispered harshly, trying to get someone's attention. The Forest was no place to ******** around, and it certainly wasn't safe to be out here alone. Which is why they had come as a group, and also why splitting up was so stupid. "Stick together, I said. It's the safest way. And what do they do?" He sighed, the crunching underfoot taking on a sinister role of effectively deafening him to incoming danger and alerting nearby enemies of his presence; floating would be so much better, but in the air there was the added risk of getting tangled in the canopy. There was no winning, only moving forward. And hopefully finding the rest of the group somewhere.

Avery reached the forest before the others. That's the good thing about not feeling pain she thought. No sore muscles. As she stopped to catch her breath, she looked around. It was darker and cooler in the forest without the sun beating down on her. She brushed her hair out of her face and discovered her forehead was bleeding. Dammit. Must've cut it on a branch or something.

She heard Alex arrive and call out to her and Matt. She was about to call back, but something held her back. Be smart for once. No need to alert the monsters. Luckily, she spotted Alex floating off in the distance and made her way to him. "Hey there, I'm right here," she said, keeping her voice low.

Ninety packages of Twinkies in the truck, ninety packages of Twinkies... take one down, pass it around- Ugh, no more Twinkies! Think of something else! Morgan had finally arrived in the forest, and considering everyone else had left before her, she would more than likely earn the nickname "Slowpoke". Speaking of everyone else, where are they? she thought. What happened to sticking together as a group? With a short sigh, Morgan started walking to search for any sign of the others. At the same time, she placed two fingers to the spot between her neck and her jaw. Normal pulse, nothing to worry about. I guess all the exercise paid off...

She blinked as she spotted a figure wandering among the trees, whispering harshly for Matt and Avery. He probably expected me to get myself eaten on the way here. I might as well change my name to Morgan McNugget. Alternating between watching the ground to avoid leaves and tress, and watching the area in front of her to avoid an attack, Morgan slowly began walking towards Alex.

"So. Three of four ain't bad, but knowing Matt he forgot we were even coming and left for the City. He'll be fine- there's not a zombie in existence who can keep up with the b*****d." Alex chuckled, shaking his head as Avery and Morgan approached. "I'm sure we're all perfectly capable of handling ourselves and all that, but we should really stick together. Because in all honesty, there was some pretty sick s**t here when I left. And that was like... Three years ago, or something. I'm sure it's gotten worse. So I'm not questioning your capabilities. I'm questioning what we're up against. Keep an eye open. Don't want anyone dying. There's these freaks in here. They jump at you, got these big freakin' claws. I've got pretty decent reflexes myself, so I might be able to keep us all safe from the initial jump. Maybe. But we'll see."

"You know you're just making me excited, right?" Avery asked. "I've been itching to beat up monsters for a while now, and you make them sound so much fun." She cracked her knuckles, grinning despite herself. The only reason she'd been cautious for so long was that she had no access to medical supplies. Once we get some proper first aid kits, I'm gonna punch things 'til my knuckles bleed.

"Ditto... including the maiming, decapitating, and a few other things," Morgan added to Avery's comment as she stretched a bit. Unfortunately, since she was in a group, Morgan could not be as reckless as before... or so it would appear. "Let's see... stick together, don't get killed, be aware of our surroundings, don't get killed, and tear the freaks to shreds before they take us out first." Not to mention having fun while doing the latter. A short grin broke out on Morgan's face at the thought. She planned on clearing the weapons store out once they reached Central City. "By the way... Alex... just how huge are those little buggers?"
PostPosted: Tue Jul 17, 2012 7:47 pm

"Well, that's the thing. You got your Crazies, they're regular human size. I'm sure you've run into those before. Then you got your Hunters. They're generally bigger, but that doesn't really matter. Because you'll never see the ******** coming, they ju-" In mid-sentence, there was a sudden rush of wind and Alex threw a punch. The rush of wind changed direction quite suddenly as a huge mass of pure telekinetic force smashed into it; suddenly a black figure became clear as it struck a tree, breaking through the trunk. Splinters went flying as the thing screeched; fury and fangs and black fur rushed at him, and Alex grinned back at the group and put up a hand. The thing hit an invisible wall, and his grin only grew wider. His eyes began turning red, filling over with blood that slowly trickled down his cheeks; his veins began glowing a faint blue light, casting the group in an eerie shade. And just beyond the trees, dozens of pairs of eyes glistened in that glow. "They look about like that," Alex muttered, lifting the Hunter and clenching his fist. The thing squealed in pain and began writhing, blood frothing from its mouth; whatever he was doing on it wasn't outwardly visible, but it certainly was having an adverse affect. After another moment it stopped moving, stopped making noise... And the pairs of eyes around them began a low, feral growling.

"Finally," Avery whispered, unable to contain the wide grin that was spreading across her face. This is what she lived for. It's what I was made for. They were surrounded. She turned slowly, trying to follow the sound of the Hunters' growling. Finally, one made a dash for Morgan, and Avery launched herself in that direction. She was just barely able to land on its back. "You sure are a quick bugger, you know that?" she said to the creature. She dug her left hand into its shoulder as it tried to shake her off. She grabbed its head with her right hand and twisted.

It took more than her usual amount of effort to hear that wonderful snapping sound, but Avery managed. As the Hunter fell, she jumped of its back and quickly checked for any injuries. Just a few bruises from being tossed around like a rag doll. Nothing seems to be broken.... You're actually doing pretty good at this 'restraint' thing, Avery. She brushed the hair out of her face and cracked her knuckles again. Her ego was starting to get ahold of her. "Anyone else want some?" she boasted to the remaining Hunters.

Listening as Alex began describing the various creatures he had encountered, Morgan already knew what the Crazies were. In fact, they were part of a favorite pasttime of hers that involved seeing how many she could kill. However, once Alex mentioned the Hunters, he was abruptly cut off mid-speech due to the sudden onslaught of wind- and what had occurred between Alex and what was once an unseen force, which gained a severe thrashing from Alex and was now revealed for the first time- black fur, fangs, and one ugly snarl. It didn't take long for the telekinetic to shield the three of them from the creature, and- from what Morgan assumed- mentally crush the creature's organs to bits. Once the Hunter was on the ground, several more had jumped out to attack them. The only thought on Morgan's mind at the moment: Bring it on!

One of them had made a mad dash for Morgan before Avery got her hands on it, but it didn't stop another one from lunging at the brown haired girl. Before it could even get within a few inches of Morgan, the creature's limbs stopped moving, causing it to slip and crash haphazardly into the ground. Then, after it got up, the Hunter began attacking another nearby Hunter, ripping it to dozens of shreds. As for Morgan herself, who was currently almost unscathed, she had a huge grin on her face as she watched the Hunter destroy one of its own kind, right before running headfirst into a tree at a high speed. "And you are one difficult sucker," she muttered as she pulled off one of her fingerless gloves. However, another one of the Hunters gunned straight for her as she reached into her pocket, leaving Morgan with little choice but to charge at the creature as she whipped out her pocketknife to quickly make a cut on her wrist. She leaped over the creature before rolling over onto the ground, and as the monster changed direction to attack Morgan again, the teenager was already standing up- and with a whip in her hand that she immediately snapped at the creature. The whip wrapped around the Hunter's neck a few times before it was violently snatched off, with the Hunter's detached head and body dropping to the ground. Afterwards, Morgan began searching for the next furball to pick off.

The Hunters weren't exactly a new threat; Alex had dealt with them enough to know about how they ticked. True, it had been a while since an actual fight... But it wasn't as if he'd spent the last three years lying around. After another one made a lunge for his own face, Alex kicked it. Hard. And not just with his foot; a ripple in the air almost looked like a shockwave as it was propelled back with enough force to split the Hunter behind it down the middle. Not literally, they were both just knocked backwards and all manner of bones were broken that day. Immediately afterward, he stepped on the top one's chest and ripped its arms off; the arms proceeded to dance around the arena, slashing at pretty much anything hairy enough to look like one of those things. It was a pretty fail ambush, in all honesty. Nobody but Hunters had died yet, and the only one bleeding was Morgan- and that was her own doing. There had been a moment where Alex was wondering if she was a telekinetic like him... Then he'd seen the blood-whip, and realized there was something much more sinister going on behind the Hunter's friendly fire incident. He decided to try his own hand at the puppetmaster fiasco; his newest thrall, the Hunter that lay beneath the armless one, rose on his command. Broken and dying, it cried out with a whimper as he made it dance to his tune as well; the movements were jerky and awkward, at first, but after he dropped the disembodied arms and got the hang of it... It became almost natural. The thing joined it's blood-controlled brother in the slaughter of its own kind, and the Hunters' numbers were dropping by the second. It had started at about seventeen; now, not including the two puppets, there were about fourteen.

The sound of feet pounding against the ground was only matched by the force of the heart beating within. Like an animal, sprinting on all fours as a blur. The mass of fur was panting wildly, shifting through the trees. The sheer impact, followed by the lifting of his feet, tore the grass and left paw prints. The scent...People, followed by...animals? A pack, more of them than people. That meant...more food. The beast charged in the direction of the scent, and once it got at a good distance its arms opened, allowing for it to grab onto one of the Hunters while speeding by. Anyone watching would see a blur pass through, as well as the disappearance of a Hunter. Its pained grunts echoed throughout the forest, followed by a full-fledged howl.

Once again, Morgan jumped back into the fray, cracking her whip furiously at the first Hunter she spotted to get its attention. Moving fluidly through the air like a ribbon, the weapons in the teenager's hands already snaked around the neck of its next furred and clawed victim, with Morgan herself intent on subduing the creature to take control. What was on her mind was a contest between her and Alex to see which of their puppets could kill more Hunters. Unfortunately, it wasn't going to occur, for by the time Morgan gained control of the Hunter's blood, her connection was immediately severed as a sudden blur sped past. Not only that, but the Hunter at the other end of her whip was nowhere in sight. The teenager blinked for a second- the Hunter couldn't have gotten out of the hold, her weapon had a tight grip on its neck! And just what was the blur that kidnapped her puppet? Was she the only one who imagined it, or did Alex and Avery watch what had happened as well? Morgan hoped the latter was true, for following the sudden disappearance of the Hunter was a full-fledged howl echoing through the area. As the whip in her hands shifted to a machete, Morgan glanced around for any sign of another pack of Hunters. Yet something was off. Unless someone was able to control the Hunters like Morgan and Alex could, that blur couldn't have been one of the Hunters... could it?

Avery was happily pounding away at her third Hunter when something sped past her. She finished off the monster and turned to see what happened. Morgan was searching the woods intently, brandishing a machete that looked like it was made of her blood. Clearly she had seen something too. Suddenly a howl pierced the air. That's not a Hunter howl, Avery thought uneasily. She moved closer to Morgan. "Heard that too, huh?" she asked. "Do you know what the hell that was? 'Cause it's freaking me out."

"Heard it, and saw it snatch a Hunter out of my clutches," Morgan muttered as she gripped the handle of the machete. She was as uneasy as Avery was, but allowing it to get the better of her was less than beneficial, especially with the remaining Hunters that were still alive. "As for what that thing was... you're asking the wrong person." At least Morgan knew she wasn't crazy this time, but it still didn't explain what had taken out her Hunter. Speaking of the creatures, one of them was preparing to strike at Morgan and Avery. "You want the head or the legs?" she asked, not waiting for an answer before she darted at the creature, aiming to impale her machete in its skull.
