Peace to a lot of us may have a different definition. To some, peace may be when you're by yourself and enjoying a good book or some music. To some, peace is when you are surrounded by the ones you love. To others, peace is all getting along. Peace to some individuals may be even complete silence. My definition of peace on a rough day is sitting alone alone and listening to tunes and other days it's hanging out with those I love. What is your definition of peace?

When we go by our definition of peace, it may feel awesome when we get that opportunity. That opportunity to think you don't have a care in the world or that you can get away from it all for a little while. In the end, what is God's definition of peace and how do we achieve this type of peace? I've gathered some scripture that will hopefully answer that question for all of us.

God's peace, or the peace of God can be found here in scripture:

Philippians 4:6 - 9 NIV:

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.

*This is an interesting verse because it mentions that God's peace goes above and beyond our understand. To define it may be difficult if we haven't been to Heaven just yet. I'm sure for most believers that when they have God's peace - they'll know it. Take an example of a brave, young man named Ben who sadly passed away due to a heart condition, but knew what God's peace felt like and knew it was beyond words:

*Some people have described the peace as so amazing that they don't want to leave it. This has happened in a few people's testimonies about going to Heaven and God telling them that it's not their time yet. Ben's sister also left her thoughts about Ben and how he described peace to her:

*To achieve this peace, there is scripture that tells us that we must follow God's laws and His word.

Psalm 119:165 NIV:

Great peace have those who love your law,
and nothing can make them stumble.

*Peace and wisdom also connect. Wisdom is applied knowledge that we learn from the word and through that we can have peace in our lives, and these things are worth more than silver and gold:

Proverbs 3:13 - 17 NIV:

Blessed are those who find wisdom,
those who gain understanding,
for she is more profitable than silver
and yields better returns than gold.
She is more precious than rubies;
nothing you desire can compare with her.
Long life is in her right hand;
in her left hand are riches and honor.
Her ways are pleasant ways,
and all her paths are peace.

*There are many many types of peace. I know that I could be here all day covering the different aspects of peace, but I know that would be a long message for you to read and I realize not everyone is online long enough to read extremely long posts so I have tried to make it short, sweet, and to the point. I apologize if I didn't cover everything clearly. Feel free to add your thoughts smile on this matter =]

I think this is something I have a really hard time with. I suffer from severe anxiety disorder (among other things) and it's really hard for me to just be at peace. I'm always fretting over something. I know it's best to just give it to the lord but for some reason I have a very hard time with that.
I'm sorry I couldn't elaborate on what peace means to me but I can't talk about something I've never experienced. I would imagine that peace would not include this knot in my stomach all the time... and the feeling that I could cry at any given moment. Peace is something I long for.

Sorry if this isn't the kind of post you wanted... Just trying to get things going in here. It seems kinda slow. Let me know if there is anything I can do for the guild.

There is no need to worry biggrin in this world - it can be hard to relax at times because of how chaotic things can be. God's peace is also something that we can't fully grasp, but when we feel it - perhaps it's just one of those, "You know it when you experience it," type of thing. What you posted is okay ^_^ no need to worry about that. Yeah, the guild has been a bit slow - some members have been recruited, but not a lot of activity. I just simply ask that people post when they are able to, and that doesn't need to be every day.

Peace can be achieved through God and Jesus Christ. I believe the Holy Spirit has a big role in it since that is what dwells in the believers, and is also sent from God as the "comforter". I noticed when I truly accepted The Holy Spirit in my life that things felt a bit different at times because you realize your gifts even more and possibly your true calling.

Peace is also something we can definitely pray about 3nodding

I have trouble with finding peace but I do love sitting and watching thunderstorms people often think I am weird because I like rainy days but I guess maybe I am.

Nah, I remember I used to sit in my room with a close friend or my siblings and I would turn off the lights and open my curtain during a good lightning and thunder storm. We'd all just sit there and look out into the night sky and watch the lightning and listen to the thunder. I still enjoy the thunder - as long as I'm not outside in it =P

For me, throughout the earlier part of my childhood I have had and still do have trouble with peace. But reading have made a bit less stressed out out life. thanks.

Peace is hard for us to understand sometimes because so many of us have a busy or hectic lifestyle that's always on-the-go. It's hard sometimes to sit, read The Holy Bible, and sniff the flowers for once - but it is something that we all should do more often.

I guess it would have to depend on what kind of "peace" your talking about Aquatic Blue. I mean, there are different kinds of "peace" found throughout the life of humanity.

(btw I like your siggy! ^_^)

Anyway, how I mean it is this:

People say they want "peace" in their lives, but then they go about creating so much trouble and still expect "peace" to be apart of their life. How can there be peace where none can thrive?
My sister is a perfect example of this. She creates so much static in her life that peace has no way of coming through into her world - she desires it, greatly, but she has not gotten it. Why? Because she has not let God be in control of things - she must always have control, and if she doesn't have it, she fights and creates trouble to get it - thus peace has no place to thrive in her life.

Now, on the other hand, "peace" can also be literal - as in peace between nations. Such as a peace treaty, or an armistice(spell?) I am not sure but the word "peace" is used so much in this world as way of lowering the guard. True, that is what "peace" of that kind is for!

Then you have True Peace of the Soul. This peace is only attained through Christ, through the knowledge and understanding that the Father, Son and Holy Spirit - the Godhead that is three-in-one - is sovereign(spell?). That He's in control and that He is the only one who can handle the troubles of this world.
Yes He tests our Faith, He puts us into the fire so He can REFINE our Faith, to grow us into believers who do not waiver. The ultimate of Peace is something that is indescribable. The Peace that flourishes on the Spirit of the Father. Given by Him alone, so few people have attained that ultimate Peace.

My grandmother has this kind of Peace. It glows in her eyes, it shines through her heart and in all she does. When my grandfather (her husband) died many years ago, this Peace fell upon her like a warm blanket. She knew the Peace of the Holy Spirit.
I too have this Peace. Its a Peace that passes all understanding and all knowledge. The Peace of the Holy Spirit, even when things are crazy and going nuts around me, I can simply turn to the one who can handle it all and remain at Peace for the entirety of it.

Aquatic Blue, peace is never an easy thing to obtain, but thank you for sharing it with those here on gaia.

I think in America especially it can be difficult to find peace because we have static in our lives, a lot like what a person above me just posted. Probably the best example of peace that's gained with God is the well known Psalms 23, especially my favorite line "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil".

With so many things going on in my country that are going to effect me down the road, to personal issues at work, it can be hard for me to find peace. Peace to me is during prayer with God where I can throw every single last worry I have at Him because it does me no good to hold on to them. There are times I feel hollow, but those times where it's just God and I is a weight off my shoulders....then I step into the world or re-acquaint myself with the worries I thought I'd given over to Him. Go figure.

Peace is a process, I guess. One that must be sought out daily.

You have a point - perhaps I should've specified what type of peace. I was more referring to being able to have peace within ourselves even though of course this is difficult to achieve in today's world. I am still working on having peace within myself. Although, the peace of Heaven is such a higher type of peace then the "peace" we describe here on earth.

Indeed - peace is a process...it won't come to us if we don't seek for it.

It's interesting how many of us have such a different definition of "peace" - the different definitions show's that everyone is unique and has their own thoughts on the matter 3nodding

Psalms 23 is a good example of peace. I know that's a verse that's often comforting if I feel worried or stressed.
