Just a little background on me first- I came from a large family and I'm currently living with my beloved Annette, my sweet Rosie, Rosie's hubby Chryos and my soon to be new roomie Charlie who I have a total crush on. Charlie likes to cook like I do- so it will be fun to spend time with her working on all kinds of delicious foodstuffs.
I also have a D/s partner Wren, but he doesn't live here.
I keep really busy: I take between 15 and17 credits in college each quarter I have a part time job at college proofreading people's papers I take about 11 extra curricular classes that focus on cooking and homesteading I'm maintaining a beekeeping apprenticeship I volunteer for a non-profit that builds gardens with low income families so we can fight hunger I'm training to be clergy I'm in 4 school clubs, and an officer in 2 of those including the GSA and the Honors Society
... and somewhere in all that I manage to have something that looks a little like a social life. cat_sweatdrop

Ok, now that that stuff is all out of the way, I have to admit I went on a bit of a shopping spree yesterday. I bought sweet rice flour, regular rice flour, a sushi mat, a new bento set including a carrying bag, a utensil box and a bento box itself. I would have bought a tamago pan if I could have found one. I got a new bamboo steamer, a banana stand, an onagiri mould, a funnel with a built in strainer and lots of food stuffs.
My sweetie Annette was home sick from work so I made miso soup and it was a huge hit. I also precut the tofu and put it in a mason jar since I know I won't be using it for anything but cubes in soup.
I know it's silly, but I've been watching a lot of anime lately and it always makes me crave Japanese food.

It's summer time so buying fresh produce (and growing my own) is cheap and easy, thus I am making a lot of stuff. Lately I have made- kimchi, sourkraut, miso soup, ginger syrup and candied ginger, oh- and some cough drops. Today's adventure? Pickled Ginger!Just an FYI- washing the sugar off of your hands doesn't do much for getting the ginger oil off- so keep that in mind when you go to use the bathroom or have some special alone time. cat_sweatdrop If I have some time- I might make some Vietnamese Pickles too.

Today I am making Kimchi to pack in my bento! I'm using about 3lbs of Bokchoy, 3 lbs cabbage, 4T salt, 6oz diakon, 3 garlic cloves, 2 carrots, 1/2 inch of ginger and a ton of chili peppers! Edit: I just finished making 50lbs of kimchi, sourkraut, and pickled vegetables.

Ok. So my sourkraut is so popular people want to buy it from me! I'm also taking a class soon on fermented pickles and I want to try and make my own umiboshi because the store that used to sell it doesn't anymore.

Today's adventure in Bento was Kerabu Beehoon. I had to kind of make up the dressing, and it turned out spicier than I thought, but it was still amazing!

Sir3n Song Esiris I made a tofu dressing with ginger, garlic, chives and tofu. I want to pack a salad for one of my school bentos. Mmm what about some sesame seeds for texture? biggrin I was really just making the dressing- it went over an apple-fennel salad and that added a lot of texture to it. So I tried the orange juice marinated carrots- they didn't turn out as good as I had hoped. Maybe next time I'll try lemon
