current state:

Ufarodea has fallen into chaos since the fall of the Congregation, with four main factions: capitalists, Communists, the pre-Congregation monarchy, and the northern anarchists. Mixed freely into these factions are three species (the Ferea, the Risdie, and the Chiar), while a fourth species known solely as "shapeshifters" is almost entirely made up of anarchists.

The southern sea is rich in animal life, while the northern landmass provides oil in abundance. Unfortunately, the entire planet suffers from volcanic action and furious storms, and has a very sulferous atmosphere. It was declared unsuitable for outsiders' inhabitance when it was discovered by Congregational scout, although its resources were valuable enough to build a base on its moon, Neraer.

Currently the two main factions - capitalist and Communist - are at a stalemate, while the monarchy is dying, and the anarchists are persecuted by everyone and have retreated north. They have equal technology. A hesitant truce has been declared, and each faction has sent an ambassador to the new alliance of ex-Congregational planets. Unbeknownst to the rest, the anarchists hold the best technology, more advanced than almost any other, and has members who have reached the ultimate evolutionary state - the ability to change their bodily shape. If they could get a hold of some materials, they could easily gain control...and they would show high favour to the ones who supplied them...

History

Years and years ago, long before the Congregation ever began, the solar system currently home to Ufarodea was a barren lifeless place, with three planets: two gaseous and a very small solid one. The planet that would be known as Ufarodea was floating through space until it was pulled in by the star Esilx-A1's gravity. Interestingly enough, the only intelligent species then were the Shapeshifters. Congregational Researchers have found traces of other civilizations, but as there is no known connection to the current species, it is believed that these other races died off when Ufarodea left its original orbit.

The cause of the switch of orbit is a mystery still, but it is assumed that the old star most likely died. There are quite a few stars this could have been, and as no one has been interested in Ufarodean history for quite a while, most of this is yet unknown. All the historians know is that the original name of the planet may have been Terun. The religion the Shapeshifters follow is assumed to be the older religion, which appears to be a worship of the planet itself and a death entity. The Shapeshifters mandate that both figures have manifested long ago.

The Congregation discovered Ufarodea at its peak, and managed to conquer easily as the planet was on the brink of war. They found the climate to be uninhabitable, but the resources available were plentiful so they built a lunar base and sent gathering vehicles down on a regular basis.

As the Congregation grew weaker, it could no longer afford to control a planet this far away. Also, the warring factions were indirectly causing damage to Congregational forces and enterprising colonists. The Congregation pulled out three months before the initial collapse.

Since then, the factions have tentatively made contact with other independent planets, and the Capitalist faction hopes for alliances to be made in time. Currently they are the only faction with a functioning envoy in the alliance council.

Climate
Atmosphere is high in sulfer, with some nitrogen and small amounts of oxygen. Ufarodea is the fifth from its star, and consequently is very cold. Its ice caps extend far past what is believed to be their original boundaries. There is much volcanic activity, and earthquakes and large storms are also quite common. Oil occurs regularly around the northern continent, and quite a few useful metals can be found all over the globe. Nonintelligent species are few and bear very few resemblences to alien species. Plantlife is much more common, as the soil is very fertile.
