Name: Cassiopeia
Owner: Sweet Autumn Zephyr
Personality: Cryptic
Prompt #: Three
Prompt Response: Cass is somewhat of a gypsy. A traveler, a vagrant. She never stays in one place for long, not because she doesn't want to, but because she can't.

She is a seer. The visions & dreams are a gift, her grandmother had said. A gift? Pah. Hardly. It is her unrelenting gift that turns others against her--they just have no heart for the bearer of bad news. & it is bad news, most of the time. A curse or misfortune is often the fate of those who live where she goes. But, on the happy occasion, Cass is the joyful giver of a blessing--many children, prolonged life, a happy ending. Will she ever be the one to enjoy any of the blessings that she foresees? She cannot tell her own future, the stars have blocked that information from her.

Just one devoted friend is all she ever asked for.

[I totes would have added more, but I'm going on vacation. :3 ]

Name: Verdandi (named after the norse goddess of the present; a goddess of destiny)
Owner: Redbud-Tree
Personality: Mystical
Prompt #: Mostly 3, but some elements from 1 thrown in as well.

Prompt Response: Verdandi began her life as a house pet to a practicing fortune teller. As just a small pup, she watched as her human read palms, gave tarot readings, and studied the stars for omens. Verdandi and her sisters, Urdu and Skuld, all grew to have at least a rudimentary knowledge of these arts, but it was Verdandi who was the most passionate about it. She would spend hours and hours at her human’s side, soaking up mystical knowledge and theories about the nature of fate. It was a simple life, but a happy one.

But one night, Verdandi looked out the window, at the stars that dotted the sky, and did more than ponder their general meaning. She wondered, instead, what was in store for her. And in that very moment, as she wondered what she was meant to do and if she was truly supposed to stay a mere house dog for the rest of her life, a shooting star streaked across the sky. It was a beautiful golden color, a peculiar shade that Verdandi had seen before – in her human’s very study!

Tearing through the house, convinced that the shooting star had been a sign, Verdandi burst into her human’s study and climbed onto an office chair, and from there onto her human’s desk. There she saw what she had been looking for – a jar of golden sand that her human kept, nestled within a wrapping of starry blue cloth and decorated with glued on feathers and beads. As she had thought, the sand looked exactly like the shooting star in color – perhaps her human had captured a star sometime in the past! Verdandi sniffed at it, her tail wagging, but in her excitement she accidentally knocked the jar off of the desk and sent it crashing to the ground, where it broke open upon impact.
Hearing the crash, Verdandi’s human came in.

Verdandi whimpered, certain that she was going to be in trouble now, that her destiny had been to anger her human – butit was clear that her human was not angry, as she simply gathered the items and kissed Verdandi on the head, telling her that she would make them into something lovely for her to wear, that they needn’t be wasted. She also gave Verdandi a pawful of the golden sand to keep, that she might never forget that no matter how excited she might become to understand the future, to seek out the meaning of the stars, that she must never, ever let them guide her into doing something that might bring her or others to harm.

It was a lesson that Verdandi would always keep close to heart.

Name: Zecora
Owner: xKOVAKtheWOLFx
Personality: Mystical
Prompt #: One
Prompt Response: Zecora was different than the most of the others around her. Isolated, studying things. She would only interact with others if requested for aid in healing or for advice. For the past few years, Zecora had been wandering the lands of grass, water, wind, fire, to find the complete answer of life and the study of life. Now that she has found her answer, she has decided to retire into the neighborhood that many knew as Summerwood.
Over her years, she has collected souveniers from wanderers to remind her about her wandering years. A pile of soothing sand for peace and beauty. Feathers for feeling free and weightless, able to do whatever she desired if she gave the effort to do so. The headband for those who were to be born to become as wise as they could. The necklace as a memorial to those whom died so that she would carry them dearly into her heart. The leg bands for swiftness to run away from danger, but to help those in need of her help. Lastly, the blanket over her back for those around the world that they are all connected to one by the stars above their heads every night.
She believes that the stars are their creators and that those who have died became stars which the brightest were those who recently passed away.

Name: Iona Chamtung
Owner: ladyfirefox89
Personality: Seeking
Prompt #: 1
Prompt Response: To learn why Iona is obsessed with stars and constellations, one must first learn of how her mother died and how her father explained it. One day when Iona was still a pup, her humans decided to take her parents and her out while her siblings where getting baths at the local pet washer. It started to rain, so the humans wanted to go home. Not wanting to leave, Iona hid in a small storage room. A small fire starts in the room and her mother finds and rescues her. But in doing so catches fire to her fur. Iona’s mother carries her out into the open while her back fur is on fire and then runs off into the woods.

Iona wished desperately to follow her mother and started to run after her but her father stopped her. Just then, lightning struck in the forest where it looked her mother would have been near. When Iona asked her father why mother wasn’t coming home with them when they were leaving and why she had disappeared, her father couldn’t bare to tell her the truth. Her father told her that the gods had decided that her mother had been so good, that they took her up to live with them to live in the stars, and that the lightning bolt that took her soul to the gods had been a special road.

After going back later, Iona found where she thought the thunder had struck. A small pile of sand laid there. Iona, convinced it was the ashes of her mother’s mortal being decided to save them. Hoping one day the gods would allow her mother to return and after her spirit returned, the sand would return to being her mother’s body. That is the story of how she required her sand. The blanket she has wrapped around her is the blanket her mother would tuck her siblings and her under in their basket. The beads had been a special festive leash her humans had often used on her mother. After her mother’s death, her humans saw how much Iona missed her mother and created accessories out of the leash for her. The feathers were next to the pile of sand when she found it. She thought maybe they were from the god that guided her mother to the stars and that maybe he would give her mother back to have them returned. On a recap of why she loves astrology, she hopes someday she’ll be able to learn enough about the constellations to learn how to get her mother back *though she doesn’t understand her mother is dead twt;;*. She also loves to go around telling others of the stories of gods and the shapes in the skies related to them. Though the gods have become a major part of her life, she does not let the thought of them bring her down. She has come to enjoy telling their stories, and has come to terms with the sadness originally brought on by them.

Sorry the last paragraph is long sweatdrop . I wanted to technically leave it at 3 paragraphs.

Siyari

(XD I totally edited mine after an AMAZING dream)

Name: Verity
Owner: Siyari
Personality: Truthful
Prompt #: One
Prompt Response:

Verity isn't your average dog. She's a dream-walker and a clairvoyant. But leaving your body behind so your spirit can walk the veil is dangerous. Anything can happen to it and to your soul. If your body is moved, you might be lost in the ether forever. When a gift comes as naturally as this, it's hard to keep your spirit tethered to your host.

One day, when Verity was young, she was walking the veil and something bizarre happened. She met another soul. A human--A woman. In the veil, words mean nothing but communication is easy-- the woman instantly recognized Verity's gift and told her to take precautions, for she had trained long and hard to attain the dream-walking ability, but to Verity, it came as natural as breathing. A list of items to procure was necessary for returning to her body and keep her soul from drifting off without Verity's express consent. She understood the woman's warning, and the two vowed to find each other back in the world.

"Golden Sand-- to keep your soul grounded. When you wish to stay in your host, keep a vial of golden sand around your neck, or better, in your paw. A cloak of stars-- so you may always find your way home. Learn the sky well, it is the only thing shared between the world and the veil. Feathers-- to help you reach out and sense those in need, this power need not be sense-less. Use it well. We will find each other again, in the world." How do you know? "Because I was looking for you."

I have come to the conclusion that between them all a few really captured my interest, but as we all know only one can win, (for which I am sad.) I then had a really had a tough time deciding which one out of the few. It was a hard decision, but I have judged as fair as I could.

I do want to give an honorable mention to both Redbud and Siyari. Your stories really had me captured. I wish that there were more than one dog. And really to everyone it was a hard to choose out of all the wonderful entries. I hope you all keep your stories dear to you. They would all make such interesting dogs here.

The winning entry was

ladyfirefox89
.

Your story really pulled at my feelings. Please take her image and post in my certing thread. Hopefully there will be more contests like this one in the future with more thought in to the prompts, of course.
