I am not a practicing Wiccan, and have little to no knowledge of it other than what I've managed to glean from my late night website perusals. I'm very interested in it, however, and I'd like to get a better idea of what it means to be a part of it. Reading recommendations and general knowledge would be much appreciated, along with the answer to my initial question of course. ^ 3^
I'm sure there are some people like me in the guild who are newer or non-members of the religion, so to all of you, what sparked your interest and caused you to join the guild?

We studied it together and learned a lot. in the years that followed i continued to study and she went off to other things that suited her more. what it means to be a part of it- thats different for everyone of course. ive only done rituals with my boyfriend or by myself and i cant imagine what a coven would be like. but it should always be joyful and happy i guess lol. this is a very good place to start. they have a beginners course that is thorough. : ) i recommend starting your research here. http://www.magickaschool.com/?gclid=CNCisrKw0bACFQhgTAodo0yXqwummmm not sure what else to say.. btw i am 18 and just graduated so that gives you an idea of how long ive been studying. sorry for the long post deary! cat_mrgreen

Reading recommendations and general knowledge would be much appreciated, along with the answer to my initial question of course. ^ 3^ You probably want to start with Amber and Jet, since it's a webgroup made up of initiates and seekers who know the difference between Wicca and other kinds of religious witchcraft and general witchcraft. It was started by people like you and me- seekers who wanted better information and it now has lots of discussions that are good for seekers to make themselves aware of. It also has a reading list or 2, which can help you sort useful books form the unuseful ones. Quote: I'm sure there are some people like me in the guild who are newer or non-members of the religion, so to all of you, what sparked your interest and caused you to join the guild? My interest in Wicca was sparked by a spiritual experience I had- I don't remember what caused me to join the guild though. thebluemeow anyways!! what first brought me to paganism and wicca was a friend of mine back in the 7th or 8th grade. We studied it together and learned a lot. in the years that followed i continued to study and she went off to other things that suited her more. Just as a heads up- a lot of authors have mislabled stuff as Wicca and since Wicca is about experiencing the Mysteries of two specific deities, what you came across when you were that young was probably Eclectic Neo-Paganism and not Wicca. Quote: but it should always be joyful and happy i guess lol. Not always- sometimes it's somber. While Circle doesn't replace a good therapist, there are times when there are other important things that need to be handled. I don't think that is a good website- they don't say what tradition they're initiates of, and they offer to teach you Wicca over the internet, and since Wicca needs initiation and the experiences within the Mysteries, it sounds like they're misrepresenting themselves. Quote: ummmm not sure what else to say.. btw i am 18 and just graduated so that gives you an idea of how long ive been studying. sorry for the long post deary! cat_mrgreen I know how it feels to study a long time and realize that people didn't teach you the right stuff- I'm getting that in math now. cat_sweatdrop

I think "A Witches' Bible" by Janet and Stewart Farrar is one of the best books out there on Wicca. 3nodding

When I moved out on my own, I started becoming very aware of myself and how deep my inner world was. I was dating a dark girl, and so I initially thought girls that were into wicca were hot. when I studied more I very quickly began to take it more seriously. idk, it just makes sense, it's like an objective process to things that are non-objective and non physical

I'm much the same as OP, I was raised in a conservative religious family who always demonized and shamed Paganism/Witchcraft, so I was always too afraid of the retribution and screaming from them to really dive into it, but I've always been curious. Ironically, it wasn't until I decided to start diving deeper into Christianity that I started learning more about Paganism and how the bulk of Christianity is just stolen Pagan holidays, practices, and rituals utilized in this weirdly insidious Catch-22 to control as many people as possible and make them obedient & subservient to the government & patriarchy. It's all basically paganism with matriarchy removed and replaced with patriarchy.
It all made sense when my uber-religious aunt one day started literally screaming at me that I had "dark, demonic energy" just for CALMLY and politely explaining that I didn't have any more interest in the church/bible bc the majority of followers seemed to just be permanently angry unless you subserviate yourself to them & how it was weird that a religion that claims to teach/practice love and acceptance is always screaming about banning people, burning books, damnation & hellfire. Plus the way the church does almost nothing about child predators & preached forgiveness for rapists and *****, the way they don't have to pay taxes while collecting tithes yet I've NEVER heard of a church helping a congregation member in need pay their bills, get a job or et housing/transportation, and telling her how when I became homeless due to the plan-demic I reached out to literally half a dozen churches and only ONE did anything: they brought me a literal garbage bag full of stale, out of date Publix pastries Not even bread, just sugary, stale muffins and rock hard iced dessert loaves that made me so sick from all the sugar I couldn't eat them.
That was my "a-ha!" moment, I'll never forget it.
